In another thread I think Fred has hit the nail on the head, or in this case, the dabbler upside his noggin.
How many of the "New Rangers" are here only to get tracking to help either their alt or a friend get thru the Jedi Trials??
I am gonna guess - most. They give themselves away, asking about tracking and nothing else. And asking why we don't have waypoints - we are not BHs, we do not need waypoints. Asking why we can't find specific creatures - If it ain't there, it ain't there. Askingstoopid questions about range and directions - which if you freaking read the old manual it tells you, and reading any of the stickied guides it will tell ya.
Yeah, they are on the Scout board too - whining still about camping. Thought that would end when they gave love to the BHs. Hint - it didn't.
Personally, I don't/won't track for a Jedi. Let them find the stuff on their own - it's their trial not mine. And seeing how I got more cash than I can spend, paying/bribing me is not gonna work. Already had to /addignore one clown - "Please please..." Wonder what part of "Go away" he missed? I was busy doing my thing, which did not involve dragging some pre-teen around Tatooine (notice - Tat) looking for a Kimoglia (which last time I looked lived on Lok). No, I didn't tell him. Some people need to figure things out on their own.
Anyhow, to the new Rangers here for tracking - have at it. We the real Rangers are watching and laffing.

Don't get yourself wound up, they wont stay long, as soon as they realise they can spend the points on becoming more 'uber' or whatever the cool kids call it these days 
Head out into the wilderness and found a deserted mountaintop to just sit and watch the sun rise and set, most cathartic i find.

Not worth worrying about. Any muppet can use areatrack - not everyone can use it effectively.

Well I don't have the areatrack skill anymore but actually this kind of quests could be more to my liking than assembly line hunting of, say, tat avian.
With the correct implementation of a /track command, it would be the perfect hunt: tracking of very high value, very rare prey through difficult terrain. Then you and your small band of efficient professionals fight the ferocious beast to death and emerge victorious... *ride to sunset to the strains of heroic film score*
The fact that the customer who finances this hunt is a jedi is also in line with the Antarian Rangers thing, right?
Plus, on our server at least, some of the customers are rich and quite generous...I have heard an offer of 5mil credits for a current Graul Marauder (sp?) waypoint on the rangers channel.

There is ONE jedi I will track for, my hubby, lol. That's it, no one else.
And I think you're right, the influx of rangers is they're here to help their jedi alts. I've gotten the same feeling every time I read another "tracking help" type post on the forums. Some of the questions are answered on the Ranger skill tree in the game for pete's sake.
Any how, I think they'll learn eventually how to read the skill tree and how to read the stickied guide.
For now I'm going back in my ranger hole and ignore everone else, lol.

The game mechanics allow for dabblers. I would love to Master Ranger AND Rifleman AND Creature Handler but as it's not possible I will have to settle for dabbling in all three for now. What exactly is a 'real' Ranger anyway? A Master only? I probably camp and trap as much as you(ok prolly not), but I just cant spare the skill points in those trees, so I just let them cap out and use my lower level camps and traps (which to be honest are just as effective at the mo aren't they?). I wear my Tracker tag all the time as I just think it looks cooler than Novice Ranger. I can see what your saying JB, but everyone has the right to play this game the way they like. And of course you are entitled to your own opinion of them And them of you
And them of you ps - I don't know any Jedi btw, and I have only ever been asked to track for somebody once and that was for a Kimogola (not on Tat . I got paid a "Hey thanks!"(anyone knowwhere I can spend this? nah me neither) and then got killed (quickly followed by a LOL in group chat) when they turned up and immediately aggro'd it with me still 30m away, unbuffed and unarmored (as I usually am). This is my only experience of tracking for anybody.

Well, I took up Rangering just last week, and yes, my original motivation was to help me complete the Hero and Jedi quests. To be honest, I'm enjoying the profession quite a bit, in much the same way I enjoyed Bio-Engineer during my temporary foray into holo-grinding. The truth is, I love the critters, and I love the wilds of the adventure planets. I have more fun tracking down the rare creatures than I do running endless Mokk and Janta solo missions. In fact, last night I happened to spy an Ancient Bull Rancor on areatrack, so I gathered a group together, made a camp, healed up, and lead an attack. It, quite frankly, rocked.
So I'm going to stick with Rangering for a good long while. I hope my initial motivations won't stop you from embracing me with open arms. Share the love, friends.

Yesterday I was on my way to a vendor city just outside Coronet on Shadowfire. I saw not one, but 2 Frontiering 2 camps. Instantly I was perked. I walked over and it was 2 aspiring rangers making camps. They had some artisan friends and a CH that was sending pets out to kill mobs around the camp for lazy CH xp. Plus me. SOE minus well build a highway between that down and Coronet for all the player traffic. Ranger camps in addition are an uncommon site, so people will fly out of there way by a couple hundred meters to quickly gaze. Fast, good grinding survival xp. One fo them, was half way through frontiering 4. Then going master ranger. The other was a bit behind, but same goal I believe. It warmed my heart. There is an influx it seems, but not all are for tracking. After all, no one goes through frontiering without giving up without sticking to the Master title for awhile at least.

With the influx, for whatever reason, creates a louder voice, even if temporary, for SOE to audibly grasp rangers aren't happy, but they still play happily. This is one manner in which I try to convince myself, I can deal with all the temporary trackers atm. Yes it fears me to some extent that these whiners and begging trackers are a louder voice than we content lifestyled rangers are, that when things get fixed it won't be in the manner the core rangers would like. Oh well just defeated my argument. =P
With the small amount of rangers out there, so people are making trackers to help them with whatever quest, be it hero, jedi trials, rare breeds, etc. Do they do this because they can simply have a full time tracker, because core rangers will not track more than a couple hours on assignment (the ones that do even to begin with)? Do they do this because the 2 or 3 rangers they have found to track there beasties for them have been unlucky days, where tracking works, things don't spawn, so they grumbily thank you for the attempt of service, but dismiss you as not knowing your class or simply inept? Either way....they'll see, there points can indeed spent on something else that is more worthwhile to their alt accounts. That the best tracker in the game will be hard pressed to find a graul marauder, so a part timer will find one the way we usually do...by luck, while not tracking, and with their eyes. This too, shall pass.

Well as an up and coming Master Ranger myself, right now im 3041 in Ranger, and picked Pikeman to go along with it, and will probably just keep novice medic with my remaining points.
Right now I am one of those who has my Tracker title up as I IMO its the coolest title Ive gotten so far. And the reason I picked Ranger is that I wanted to something a little different than what I have done in the past, as well as I thought Ranger would be fun toroleplay, and besides with previouscharactershunting is what Ihavespentmost of my time doing anyways.
As far as tracking goes Im still learning how to use it effectively, and have been somewhat succesful in tracking some of the npc's for the Hero of Tat quest for friends and myself. Other than that I havent had too many tells so far from Jedi, only one in which he wanted a Graul Marauder tracked, and he was saying he was paying 500k. Well luckily i was in a good mood and told him that I wasnt interested that I was out hunting with a friend, instead of telling him to stick his saber somewhere and go find his own damned spawn for Trials. I really dont get it, they are supposed to be Trials, and Jedi should be the hardest profession to get through, but apparently all these kids want it without doing any actual work...
Personally Id rather use tracking to help a Bounty Hunter hunt down these little kids with their colored flashlights....

Well I just started up the Ranger tree, (working on Master Scout now), and I am doing it for my Guild. Our Doctors and others occasionally need organics for various uses. My goal is to be the "go to guy" when we need to do a massive hunting party. My 'toon is a Trandoshan he will be a Master Ranger, Master TK. I hope to occasionally sell my services to others for a fee, but his main goal is to have fun hunting since I'm not really that interested in PvP, and occasionally make a few credits selling my skill.
