Thread: Best tank droid that a Ranger might use?
So, I was reading a post awhile back about one particular kind of droid that has good armor self healing and a 3k ham? I cant recall the type tho. Can it also hold a storage compartment?
Anyone know what I'm talkin about? I would post in other forums but they are so mean.. I got one starred in the jedi forummm
If you want a companion that helps you. Get a Probot or advanced r3 with mostly combat modules and if you want leave room for storage. Then buy droid stims to heal it back up. A Probot with 5 combat modules is a decent little rifle bot who will do 100 damage once per second if made right. He is a ranged only droid where an R3 is ranged and melee. And his attacks can be hurt if the target charges him while hes constantly adjusting his targeting.
I have several tank droids and have made quite a few others for my guild. And so far it seems the most popular was an R3 with 2 auto-heal, 4 combat modules. Myself i use a probot with a trap launcher, 4 combat modules.
That help? Ask questions. I have done a lot of work with various droids
Ok, I'll help you out. Just so you know I was and still am ( My alt - Buddy) a master DE before I found my calling as a ranger.
Tanking with a pet Using a pet to hold an argo (attack) while you either fight or flee based on your situation. Tank droids are designed to hold the argo, NOT to inflict the most damage possible. Instead the modules used in a tank droid center around auto repair.
Tank droids and options
The Advanced Probot Droid
The most common tank, battle-droid around. As a battle-droid the probot has been tested against an R3 extensively by DE's and has been recognized as the choice for dealing damage. Properly equipped this droid can be a useful tank as well. It carries a max HAM of 3200. This droid has a built in blaster and does not need a combat module to fire a ranged attack. This frees up its 5 modules for other combinations. The probot is the "emperial probe droid" as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. This droid will back up in order to achieve best distance for accuracy which is why I use it mainly for support.
1) If you use ranged combat, the best droid combo for pure tanking with a probot is using all auto heal modules at the highest rating possible and the lvl 6 armor plate which really gives 20% resists. The display will say 40% resists but this has been a display bug for a looong time. Bring extra batteries, the auto-heal modules eat them fast.
2) If you are melee, the best would be a combat droid configuration. My reccomendation would be 4 combat modules and one auto-heal. This is used for ranged support while you tank the argo. Using the guard command helps as the droid will pick off whichever beastie is attacking you without you having to manually switch between targets. The auto-heal module allows you to heal the droid in the field without the use of a droid repair kit.
If you absolutely need storage in this droid just substitute an auto-repair module in example 1 or a combat module in example 2.
The advanced DZ70 Fugitive Tracker Droid
This droid is a cool little "floating ball". Ituses amelee attack unless you add a combat module which changes it to a ranged attack configuration. Again, I highly reccomend adding an auto-repair module to keep it repaired in the field. The configuration for this droid that I've been using lately is as follows:
HAM 3100+ ,lvl6 armor, level 6 storage (10 items), one auto-repair module 22pwr.
This makes it a versitile little droid, easy to make but not overly effective as a true combat-tank. This is the droid you either use to pull argo away from you for an escape or to keep your targets busy if you can make the kills fast.
The Advanced LE Repair Droid
This is one of the cooler droids to watch fight. Since it has the highest HAM (I'll get the figures and edit this part) It is a great tanker. What's really cool is to watch the droid fight, since its a human looking droid it swats at the target etc.One bummer about him ishe's really slow on the move. It's been so long since I've made one that I'll have to make one tonight again to see all the stats and figure out the combinations. When I was making tanks, this was the most popular all around tank because of melee and HAM kept him in the fight longer.
The Advanced R3
Although the R3 has a ranged attack (looks like lightning) that can be toggled on-off sending it in as melee also, I would not reccomend it. This droid really has a problem with running more often than any other in my experiance. The 6 module possiblity gives it the widest rage of possible features but what good are they when your droid is 300m running away.
This is just a first draft, I will revise it after I get home, I'm off the clock but at my desk writing this Hope it helps a little

Battery usage went way way down a couple patches ago. With a 4 auto-heal module you were looking at recharging it once per 30 minutes. Now its about 30 minutes.
BTW be aware the droids auto-repair ability is an area of effect thing. So if your grouped with someone it will repair all droids in its radius. If both droids have autorepairs then they double the effectivness of the repairs. THe only annoyance is always seeing the healing icons falling from the sky even when the droids completly healed up.
The LE repair droid have a higher HAM then the probot, but cant hole as many modules.
But I don't use my tank much so... somebody else should get this one.
Does the Probot do the backing up thing that makes all the other droids useless to me? Well I guess a pure mele droid would be even better. I'm guessing the LE is mele?
I'm a Rifleman... this backing up so it can keep the target at 90 m crap is... crap.

Fodder650 wrote:The LE Repair Droids max HAM is 5500. I built one for my wife and it even backtalks to the target. Fun droid to watch fight I even made one into a bomb just to laugh at it. It is slow as slow can be. But it is the biggest HAM by a bunch over the R3/Probots.
Must pick up some droid repair kits and maybe a tin of paint soon.
My R3s have no trouble keeping up with me even on Dath. Same for the DX70. I've heard people say that some have better TN than others. I think its in their heads. I looked through the DE FAQs several times looking for the same answer and found nothing.
Another thing, there really isn't a Z axis (up and down) for clipping in this game. So if you have to walk around a rock your floating droid will to, no matter how much it looks like it could just float over it. At least that's what my little floaty bot does. Same thing happens if you are flying around it the jet pack.
