Thread: Best tank droid that a Ranger might use?

Hmm, okay, Adv R3, one combat module, rather than Adv Probot. The R3 has more ham, and the combat module will do more than the Probot's built-in combat module. Then do I go for five auto repair modules, or four with a trapping module?
Is there notable performance difference between four and five?
Hmm, good question. I'm just starting a new Scout/Ranger toon on Bria and am going to probably have a droid custom built since I doubt I'll be able to findprebuilt configuration like that. I'm guessing that the one less repair module probably won't have a huge impact. As far as the trapping module you will only hold 14 traps so you may be reloading quite a bit.
I'm personally trying to decide between a droid that can do damage vs. one that can just tank/auto-repair. Maybe something like an R3 with 3 harvest modules, 1 combat, 1 auto-repair, and a trapping module. That would be very similar to the Probot I was using up until recently on Starsider (my harvest ability exceeded its finally) that was 3 harvest and 2 trap but with the added benefit of doing a bit more damage due to actually having a combat module.
I already have a probot with 5 harvest modules that my other Bria toon will be giving the new one since he can't use it anymore but with my experience on Starsider I'd really like to have something with at least one auto-repair module for starting out. I'll still carry droid stims most likely if it only has 1 repair module but at least I won't have to go chase it down and repair it, I can just keep on fighting and when it revives itself if it gets killed I can send it back in for whatever. I could probably do without the trapping module but the extra range on the droid would be useful, plus it could hold P-darts and then if the creature charges when that wears off I could throw a mesh myself because it would probably be within that 50m range by the time I react.
Critter is 2 m away. I tell it to attack. It starts its ranged attack and starts backing up to 90 m way. Or at least it tries. Thus taking critter on a "fun" little chase. Ya that's really helpfull to a rifleman...
Critter is 60 m away. It runs up and starts beating on it...
The mele/ranged choice is totaly random. I say they are both crap as tanks.
I don't want to even talk about the number of times I was grouped with them, had them set to guard, and they just stood there and let me get DB with out so much as even lifting a...what ever is they lift when they attack. In fact they seem to just as likely to help you not on guard as they are on guard...

Remember when issueing the "guard" command you cant be in combat and nothing has to be targeted. Thats why your R3 just watched you die.
Dave,
Get both there really not that expensive. Try them both out since you can carry up to 5 droids and see what you like. I prefer Probots others prefer R3's and some even like LE's.

Do I seem like the kind of person that wouldn't look it up four or five times? Ya I do that he still stands there a lot. I think some one sliped a -25 to droid use SEA on me when I wasn't looking. I've tried more times than I can count. I guess I'll go try some more.
