Very nice indeed. I've often fancied that, sniping from 64m, straight down!
Two questions: Does wearing that stop you wearing a back pack? If so, can you also store items in it?

I think you can wear a backpack in it.
I *know* you cant store items in it. Its just a vehicle

Wow... Airborne Ranger, indeed. Though why your coat isn't burning I'll never understand.
Funniest thing I saw during TC-Ahazi's brief time was a wookiee, Life Day robes, hovering above thw square in Theed. Looked like a really fat, hirsute angel.

The Jetpack operates just like a vehicle; the only difference is that you cannot mount/dismount and stand next to it. As soon as you 'call' you automatically mount and start hovering. As soon as you dismount, it stores automatically (this also means you can't customize it like other vehicles).
You cannot shoot from it... although I didn't really try. I stayed in the city and if I were to have seen a red dot - I would have pulled the fastest 180 you could imagine.
Pretty fun though! The thing is as fast as a swoop with the TN skills of an AV-21 - maybe not exactly, but comparable to both of these.
My guild just finnished crafting the first jetpack on our server, so it was fun to take it out for a spin.

That was hilarious! I'm quite glad I'd set my coffee down first!
So, how difficult are they to make and who do I have to bribe? I think that'd be fun to play 'round with just for the rarity.

These are acquired through a series of Death Watch Bunker missions. It's considered the hardest thing to do in the game (along with Mandalorian armour since this is at the DWB too).
This was the first jetpack on our server, so... RARE.
I know there is a jetpack guild on some server out there who will do the DWB runs and craft a jetpack for you for 40mil.
They are fun to play around with, you're right. I don't know if I'd ever wanna own one though just becuase I would be far too scared to actually use it anywhere. Imagine getting your jetpack disabled!! -this happened to somebody, I saw a pick of it... boy I'd be mad.

I didn't fly this thing anywhere close to a red dot.

If it stores one you dismount, wouldn't it store itself if you got knocked off it? Maybe not, since you can't store it while in combat. Too risky for people to ever test, I suppose.
