Thread: Ranger Clothing Quest (Jakra Lan)
Ok those who dont like to read then im sorry but please press back on your browser ![]()
This thread has two sections, one devoted to what items i would like to see. The second devoted to how i would like the items implemented.
Ranger specific clothing is something that i think all rangers would be happy with if it were to be implemented. It helps us 'become' our rangers, helps us be seen as rangers and adds another fun factor to walking your character aroud theed ![]()
Hopfully we can have some realy nice ranger specific art wearables when our revamp arives. I know the ghille suit has been thrown around and is a great idea. Id also like some other camo wearables such as ranger only cloak or jacket giving some mods. The mods, due to the fact this item will ONLY be wearable by rangers could include such things as:
All clothing will be non-tradable and this means you have to 'earn' the right to wear this stuff, not just have the money to purchase the item.
Jakra LanWildernessHunting Jacket
I would like to see this item be the jacket youwear whilst hunting. The mods reflect the hunting origins and design of the jacket and would help the ranger have that little advantage over maybe non rangers and scouts.
As for looks i would be perfectly happy with a duster instead of a jacket. Aslong as there is a difference in looks between the wearables that clearly relate to their purpose then im happy.
I would expect the hunting jacket to look very aragorn-ish because hunting whilst looking like a leaf isnt how i see it.
The mods i would include are as follows:
- Toughness (npc/creature only i.e. non pvp)
- Desiese Resistance
- Poison Resistance
- Trapping
Jakra LanWilderness Survival Jacket
The idea behind this is that you wear this item whilst traversing the wilderness and avoiding agressive creatures and npcs. It enables the user to gain benefits by blending in with the environment.
Looks wise, im happy for the ghille suit type idea. The difference in the two jackets are this is the hiding jacket, the one that helps you stay un noticed and thus looks the coolest
it could either be a full suit or simply another jacket.
The stats on this jacket clearly follow the design: To aid the user in exploration, travel and general ranger activities.
- Camo (very cool if this was the item you needed to be removed from the radar)
- Mask Scent
- Terrain Negotiation
- Ranged Defense
- Melee Defense
- Player Run Speed
I think in swg there are some nice features that alow you to play whatever character you like. However it lacks in challenging the player and rewarding the player past the master titles. I think a great idea would be to start adding content into the world related to specific professions. Smugglers should be rewarded in some way for smuggling, Bounty hunters should be rewarded in some way for hunting people.
Instead of simply giving the player or enabling the player to buy something related to them, make it so they have to play their profession the way it was meant to obtain items.
In reference to the ranger,i would like very much to make ranger clothing a quest based reward. Although id be happy to have these items available to buy, i would much prefer it if you had to BE a ranger and DO ranger things to obtain the clothing. Ive been applying my mind to it and have come up with a fun and challenging way of putting these items in game. Here it is:
THE JAKRA LAN EIPC QUEST
Background Story
There was a great hunter once called Jakra Lan. He spent all his life perfecting the art of the hunt. Coming up with ingenious ways of creating unique items that enhanced his abilities far beyond that of a normal humanoid. Until now, his techniques and life workwhere thought to be lost. There was a rumour that jakra was eaten alive by the fabled Gorax of endor, other reports say he killed the Gorax and decided that was it, he could not perfect his 'art' any more and simply walked off into the sunset, never to be seen again.
Over the years tales of Jakras hunts have become legendary in the ranger world. People speak of his great hunts around camp fires at night empowering the listeners with hope and potential glory. Although the stories range from month long hunts stalking a single prey totracking heards across the sun drenchedfields of dantooine, there is onething thatlingers in shadows, bathed in secrecy and obscurity but features in each story:Jakra's Wilderness Clothing.
Jakra's clothing is as legendary as the stories of his hunts. His clothingwas rumoured to have enhancedpropertiesthatpushed his physical and mental abilitiesfar beyondhis normal state. Not much is know this clothing.Where it came from, how it is made and how Jakra cameacross the items needed to craft it.One thing that is knownhowever is that the clothing requires10 items that only Jakra knows how to make, each peice requiringan additional 2 rare pieces to make. This makesa collective list of 20 items needed, all from rare creatures that often are never seen by even the most experienced of hunters.
Again, the mystery of the clothing has left many questions unansweredand information that was percieved to be lost forever. That is until two weeks ago. There is a rumour that a trandosian hunter came across an old man in the wild living in a cabin wearingclothing that resembled Jakras clothing and although old in aprearance this man was far moreagile than the hunter. The old man toldstories of great hunts and saidhe knowsthings that no otherhumanoid knows, he has seen places andkilled creatures that noone has everlooked at before. He knows of ways to perfect the hunt and is willing to share his knowledge now, with hunters that prove themselves in the wilderness.
Could this be Jakra? Could this old man be the legendary figure that so many camp fire stories depict? The feeling in the wind is that it is, Jakra has surfaced again and is willing to share his secrets of his unique clothing with hunters that impress him and prove they are worthy of the title; ranger.
How To Implement It
Ok so now the background story has been flashed out giving details into why this clothing is so rare and unique. This next part will take that story and set out the quest the player must complete to gain these various clothing items.
First of all the rumour of Jakras presence on one of the planets must be part of the quest. You shouldnt get a wp to jakra himself but rather use your ranger skills to track him down.In the next section i will set up asort of progress line of what willneed to be done. Then in each section after that iwill detail each area individually.
1.00 - Finding Jakra
- Speak to trandosian hunter on an advanced planet.
- Find out from himwhat planet Jakra is on.
- Locate contact on that planet, find out the area of the planet he was sited.
- Travel around that area tracking to find the non-attackable character of Jakra outside his cabin.
2.00 - Proving Yourself
- Speak to Jakra and tell him of how you want to prove yourself.
- Set off on your first mission to kill the (insert rare and unique creature name here) and bring back its meat for part of Jakras dinner.
- Do second mission of foraging for an item Jakra wants for as an ingredient for the food.
- Read exactly what Jakra tells you and follow the instruction on the stove inputting the correct options
- Serve the food and listen/read his story of how he made the clothing
3.00 - The Hunt: Home Planet
- Starting with the planet Jakra is on, hunt down and kill the two creatures, loot their bodies and give pieces to Jakra.
- Let him make you the component with the 2 items.
- Answer the ranger question and have the component be placed in your inventory.
- Select what planet you want to take on next.
3.10 - The Hunt: Planet 2-10
- Collect the pieces from creatures Jakra tells you to and return them to him after each planet.
- Let him make you each component.
- Answer the ranger questions right and recievecomponents in inventory.
4.00 - Making Jakra Wilderness Jacket
- Give the components to Jakra.
- Let Jakra start crafting whilst you hunt/forage/cook dinner again.
- Give Jakra dinner and eat with him, then recieve Jakra Clothing item in inventory.
5.00 - Back Again
- Talk to Jakra and catch up.
- Answer ranger question right.
- Select Wilderness Pants or Hunting Jacket.
- Do the start planet quest.
- Return the items and recieve the component.
- Do the same for the other 5 planets and recieve the components.
- Let Jakra make the items whilst you cook dinner again.
- Give the dinner, eat with him, then collect the item.
Ok all items collected and gained are NON-TRADEABLE so you have to do this for youeself to get the items and the badge. Must be done in order from hunter to the end or Jakra just says "sorry im just an old man with stories to be told". You can listen/read his stories as other content but to get past this and onto the clothing mission you need to talk to the hunter and his contact.
FINDING JAKRA
1.01 : Speak to trandosian hunter on an advanced planet.
The trandosian hunter must be reletivly easy to find however being a hunter, not percieved as been a static npc. What i mean by this is, its fine having him in a cantina on endor or next to the camps in the smuggler outpost etc but not in his house etc. He needs to be percieved as a hunter who travels alot.
1.02 : Find out from himwhat planet Jakra is on.
Simple questions and answers in dialogue can determine this but i dont want the hunter to tell us where Jakra is specifically. I want a more general response and details of where we can find his hunting partner who knows the region whereJakra was spotted.
1.03 : Locate contact on that planet, find out the area of the planet he was sited.
Again very simple dialogue path from introduction to end. This guy is basically a stepping stone to finding out the region of the planet (north east corner etc) Jakra was spotted.
1.04 : Travel around that area tracking to find the non-attackable character of Jakra outside his cabin.
Upon finding out this you head off into the wilderness and its up to you to track Jakra down using /areatrack and your cunning ranger perceptions ![]()
Proving Yourself
2.01 : Speak to Jakra and tell him of how you want to prove yourself.
Ok so you've found Jakra's cabin and have explored it and been amazed at how cool it looks and hoping one day they add ranger owned cabins like this
its now time to engage in conversation with Jakra.
Nothing too detailed in this section of the conversation because you will have only just met and he is more interested in telling you stories and finding out if you are a true hunter rather than share his secrets with you.
2.02 : Set off on your first mission to kill the (insert rare and unique creature name here) and bring back its meat for part of Jakras dinner.
Ok now your getting somewhere. You have convinced him to give you a chance to prove yourself.
The mission for this creature gives you a wp and at that waypoint you find a named creature (such as an ikopi type animal namedThe Malrot Stagfor example). Kill this creature and bring back its meat and give it to Jakra. Prety simple enough and the animalshould be reletively easy, aroud 6k ham with low resists if any.
2.03 :Do second mission of foraging for an item Jakra wants for as an ingredient for the food.
Second mission involves the ranger's forage ability. You have to search the surrounding area (the area has to be refreshed often to enable a few rangers to forage in a close time frame) for something like wild snaff. Take the item back and give it to him. You will then be greeted with "hmm yum, this is going to be one tasty meal".
2.04 : Read exactly what Jakra tells you and follow the instruction on the stove inputting the correct options
For this mission Jakra wants you to make him a meal "fit for a so called legend".
Jakra tells you EXACTLY how to make the meal. Here is the dialogue ive come up with:
"Take the Malrot Stag meat and place it into the large pan and fill it 1/4 with water. Leave the meat to stew for a 6 minutes then chop the snaff and place it in thepan. Leave for another 25 minutes thentake the meat out.Garnish the meat with corellian swamp salt and my own special sauce to give it that extra kick. But do not put any pepper on the meat, it doesnt agree with me anymore"
This will require a system that lets you enter items into a 'hopper' labled as apan. Then after the items are in the process starts. You are given a feedback response based on the progress of the meal and options to choose from based on what Jakra said.
The line optionsare as follows for the first choice: "Ok how should i start"
- "Place the Malrot Stag Meat into the large pan"
- "Place the Wild Snaff into the large pan"
- "Mix theMalrot Stag Meat andWild Snaff and place in the large pan"
- "Place the Wild Snaff in the small pan"
The correct option would be 1. Any others and Jakra yells at you with a generic failure message saying "You've ruined it! You cant even follow simple instructions, come back some other time if you want to try prove yourself again"
The line options are as follows for the second choice: "right, now what?"
- "Fill the pan 1/2 with water and leave for 6 minutes"
- "Fill the pan 1/4 with water and leave for 25 minutes"
- "Fill the pan 1/4 with water and leave for 6 minutes"
- "Fill the pan 1/2 with water and leave for 25 minutes"
The correctoption would be 3. Any wrong answer given and you get the generic failure message features in thefirst choice section.
The line options are as follows for the third choice: "Good so far, what's next?"
- "Chop the Wild Snaff and garnish the meat"
- "Chop the Wild Snaff and leave for 25 minutes"
- "Chop the Wild Snaff and leave for 6 minutes"
- "Take the meat out and serve"
The correct answer would be 2. Failure results in failure message.
The line options are as follows for the fourth choice: "Ok almost done, what shall i do now?"
- "Garnish the meat with salt, pepper and Jakra's sauce then serve"
- "Garnish the meat with salt then serve"
- "Garnish the meat with Jakra's sauce then serve"
- "Garnish the meat with salt and Jakra's sauce then serve"
The correct answer is 4.
If you choose1 the response is "what are you doing? trying to kill me? I said NO Pepper!"
If you choose 2 the response is the generic failure response
If you choose 3 the response is the generic failure response
Choosing correctly will result in a pass of this section of the quest and onto the hunt section. "Ah wonderfull, just as i said. You have no idea how long its been since ive had a good meal, for that matter its been a long time since ive had company for a meal, please join me my friend"
2.05 : Serve the food and listen/read his story of how he made the clothing
Ok youve served the food and you are enjoying youve enjoyed your meal with Jakra. Now its down to business. You listen to his story of how he made the legendary clothing and he will make some for you if you prove yourself a master hunter by collecting the various items he needs to make it.
The Hunt: Home Planet
3.01 : Starting with the planet Jakra is on, hunt down and kill the two creatures, loot their bodies and give pieces to Jakra.
Ok after talking to Jakra you learn that there are two animals on this planet that 'drop' and item he needs for the clothing and needs you to hunt them down and retrieve the item. You are then on your own. This is the fun part. You arnt given any waypoints, no lairs of missions. Just told that the animal tends to roam in a certain area (ie within 500m of the Ewok Lake Villiage if on endor). It is then up to you to hurry off and hunt these creatures down. Using your ranger skills it shouldnt be a problem and using traps, killing the creatures shouldnt be a problem either.
The home planet missions are designed to be prety easy and spawns all within 500m (range of /areatrack) from pois. It will be used asan introduction to the hunt rather than dump you in at the deep end.
Thetwo items that drop from the creatureare non tradable items and if deleted you can simply hunt down another later on.
3.02 : Let him make you the component with the 2 items.
You talk to Jakra after you have the two items and select the response "I have the items you sent me for, here you go"
The items are then given to Jakra and he Start making you 1 component named (blah blah leather etc). You will need to have 10 different components (1 given for each 2 pieces recived per planet).
3.03 : Answer the ranger question and have the component be placed in your inventory.
Whilst he is making the component he asks you a question. Answer correct and you will recieve your item, answer incorrectly and he gives a lecture about how you are not a true hunter and he does not give you your component. He instead keeps it and its up to you to gather the items again.
3.04 : Select what planet you want to take on next.
You have completed the easy task of doing the first planet section. It is not up to you to select which planet you want to do next and Jakra gives you information regarding that planet and where you can find the two animals (Where instead of within 500m of a poi its more generic like in the east or north west).
The Hunt: Planets 2-10
3.11 : Collect the pieces from creatures Jakra tells you to and return them to him after each planet.
In the same way you complete the first quest part of collecting the items from the home planet, you now do the same but on another planet killing a different set of creatures and gathering a different set of items to make the component for that planet.
3.12 : Let him make you each component.
This section covers a total of 18 items that have to be gathered the ultimatly get turned into 9 more components. These along with the 1 you already have make 10 components.
3.13 : Answer the ranger questions right and recievecomponents in inventory.
Same as before, answer a question about ranger ethics and you get your component. An example of one of these questions could be:
"What trap causes the target to slow considerably" the answer being pheascene dart.
The questions should test the ranger's knowledge of his/her equipment. This quest is being given from a legendary hunter after all and you are 'proving' yourself as a master hunter.
Making Jakra Wilderness Jacket
4.01 : Give the components to Jakra.
Ok now you have all 10 planet specific components in your inventory and its time to get your jacket. Talk to Jakra and the option of "I have all the components you asked for here" becomes available. Pressing this takes all of the items from your inventory and gives them to Jakra.
He will then ask you a few questions based on what color you would like you jacket to be. You have 4 options based on 4 habbitats.
- Sand (Lok, Tat)
- Stone/Moss (Yavin, Corellia, Talus)
- Jungle/Forest (Endor, Dant (no im not letting you have a purple and pink jacket), Naboo, Rori,)
- Shadow (Dath)
All 4 color jackets look exactly the same in terms of design, however color changes and blends will give it a more apealing apearance and uniqueness.
After you select the color you want crafting will start.
4.02 : Let Jakra start crafting whilst you hunt/forage/cook dinner again.
The same mission as before is given after Jakra says "Do an old man a favour and brew up some of that fine MalrotSteakyou made me once whilst i make you your jacket. Here is where i found a Malrot Stag graising everlier this morning."
Do as your told and follow the same instruction as before however a failure will simply result in Jakra saying "not as good as before but still acceptable, thank you friend"
4.03 : Give Jakra dinner and eat with him, then recieve Jakra Clothing item in inventory.
If you succeed and follow through the dialogue Jakra eats the meal with you and after that a Jakra Lan Wilderness Hunting Jacket is placed in your inventory ready for use and you are given the Jakra Lan Hunt Master badge.A veryapropriate reward for a fun quest and somethingother players will be able to see.
I for one was devastated when our hunt master title was taken away so having the Jakra Lan Hunt Master badge as a rewardis a nice tribute to that
and maybe there would be a way to alow thisbadge to be wearable as a title by rangers who wish to do so who knows ![]()
Back Again
5.01 : Talk to Jakra and catch up.
By catch up i mean some simple dialogue referencing your previous visit(s) and asking how you are doing etc
5.02 : Answer ranger question right.
Jakra just wants to know how you are doing so asks you a simple ranger question and if you get it right you progress, if not you siply have to greet him again.
5.03 : Select Wilderness Pants orSurvival Jacket.
After you recieve the hunting jacket you can come back and try get the other two clothing items. These being the Jakra Lan Wilderness Survival Jacket/Suit or the Jakra Lan Wilderness Pants. The stats and design proposal of these two items have been presented earlier but basically the Survival jacket is a very nice looking camo jacket that helps you travel safer with less chance of being detected. The pants are an advanment of the hunting jacket and give defense bonuses to the wearer aswell as give the user a slightly faster run speed. You can also choose another option to make the hunting jacket. Although this option only becomes available after you have done all 3 quests.
5.04 : Do the start planet quest.
Same as before, hunt down the creatures and kill them
5.05 : Return the items and recieve the component.
As before, same thing just working to get a different clothing piece.
5.06 : Do the same for the other 5 planets and recieve the components.
Instead of doing the full 10 planets i would go for 5 or 6 planets because things could get monotonous if you have to do each planet 3 times to get the 3 items. The 5 planets would be:
- Home Planet (im thinking endor)
- Yavin
- Dath
- Dant
- Lok
5.07 : Let Jakra make the items whilst you cook dinner again.
He just loves your cooking so much, but a small price to pay for getting a sweet looking piece of clothing.
5.08 : Give the dinner, eat with him, then collect the item.
the best bit of the quest. Recieving the reward. No Badge this time as you already have it.
Once you have all the items you can go back to Jakra and do ANY of the 3 quests again to get another jacket or pair of pants etc.You just select what type you want and go from there.
Ok im done at last. I did all this whilst nursing a hangover so just goes to show you can acomplish anything
Im hungover from the England vs Croatia match and not feeling too well hehe
If anyone else is interested in these ideas id love to hear your ideas and at some later point ill add my own extra thoughts. Just a tad tired now hehe

Our armor has leggings so there is the pants. The ghillie suit is easy for a wookiee - we are half ghillie suit already. The Jacket could be one of our existing chest-pieces or hoods.
Completely different idea, but I would love to have wookiees be able to get fur-dyed in certain patterns by IDs. I've been playing with the greens they can dye us and they are suitably drab for camoflage. I'd love to be able to get dyed with a leaf-pattern to match.

Hey Calc, on this sort of category. There is a NPC in Mos Espa, maybe Entha, named Matt Rags. He gives you some quests to go kill some cretures, harder and harder. At the end, he gives you this cool looking "Master Hunter Trophy" sort of like the Polished Krayt Skull.
The problem is I did these quest way back when in the first few months of the game. The full quest didn't work and even though you completed them all you didn't get any items or skull trophy in the end. Like many of the smaller quests in the game.
Well since they have fixed it, and I have seen what you get. The "Master Hunters Trophy" skull. You get this after the finaly quest Matt Rags gives you. Well I have finished them and so he won't talk to me now, just gives me the standard "I don't have anything more for you." Well I put in a bug report, and talked to a CSR but they can't/won't reset these minor quests.
I was rather pissed (Irish Bothan Attitude) and told them that it's not my fault I tried to use their game in the beginning when it was broken. Now that its fixed either let me do the quests again and get the rewards, or just give me the reward.
Anyway you can mention this in the coor forum, or to TH? It's frustrating that because the quests were broken in the beginning and I tried to do some, I'm now screwed out of the cool rewards because I tried the game in the first few months.
There are many smaller quests I've done, but frankly this is the one I really want to redo or get the reward for. Seeing as I'm an avid ranger/hunter, it's a cool quest item.
