Well I have had a week now (kinda vacation) without SWG to play or much to do so....

3) Ranger Identity (my revamp thoughts) This is in addition to or a modification of the current skill set we have. ++EDIT++ I have included a complete skill set today ++EDIT++ More information is in the secondary posts, I am posting the skill set first. I am quite open to adjustments on most every modifier here. I just picked many of these numbers to get a starting point. I have tried to base most of the skills on currently in-game sets, and adding new ones while keeping the creature-centered Ranger in mind and increasing our PvP role. While I really like the idea of stealth and would like to see it included, the recent comments from the Dev’s lead me to believe that this probably will not happen. Some skills may seem to be out of place as I have tried to keep any one tree from being an overpowered tree as much as possible.

Novice Ranger:

  1. TO HIT - Creature to hit +5

  2. DEFENSE - Ranged +5, Melee +5

  3. CAMPING - +5

  4. HARVESTING - +5

  5. C KNOW - +5

  6. FORAGING - +5

  7. TN - +5

  8. HQCK

  9. /AREA TRACK– Animals General

EXPLORATION

Wayfaring General:

  1. CAMMO - Add/Fix to work against NPC's. At Wayfaring 4 cammo should not break except against the highest level creatures on each planet. I.E. Ancient Rancors or Nightsister Elders or scouts for higher level mobs. We should be able to cammo others in group at -20 level of ourselves. With skill mods of +125 we should be undetectable.

  2. BURST RUN - mods should decrease the down time significantly. After a certain level, say +80, we can BR multiple times before being tired. We are masters of the outdoors, we should have great constitution and have our bodies trained to take a significant more amount of abuse.

  3. TERRAIN NEGOTIATION - At Master would increase our run speed (1/2 way to burst run?) and walk speed slightly from current levels. In mountains we should be full speed (if we are not now) at Master. At 70 to 100 should increase mount speeds until we are at slowest speeder speeds.

Wayfaring I:

  1. /CONCEAL

  2. CAMMO +40

  3. Corellia, Tatooine, Naboo Kits

Wayfaring II:

  1. BR - +10

  2. TN - +20

  3. Rori, Talus kits

  4. MOUNTED - Ability to have both creature and player attack while mount

Wayfaring III:

  1. CAMMO +40

  2. Dantooine, Yavin Kits

  3. /FIELD DRESING - Command to stop bleeding when in HTFBK for Ranger or Ranger’s pets.

Wayfaring IV:

  1. BR - +10

  2. TN - +10

  3. Endor, Lok Kits

  4. MOUNTED - Ability to use specials/stims from mounts (at reduced speeds), once you use a special or stims the mount slows down to player run speeds until combat is finished.

HABITAT ENGINEERING

Survival General:

  1. Fishing - A fishing bonus should be included as a modifier as our Wilderness survival grows

Frontiering I:

  1. CAMPING - + 10

  2. FORAGING - + 10

Frontiering II:

  1. CAMPING - +10

  2. FORAGING - +10

  3. FBK - should repel low level creatures and NPC's when not in combat. Experimentation on heal rate and duration using resource quality. This camp stays up during combat when Ranger is within a 64m radius (128m?).

Frontiering III:

  1. CAMPING - +10

  2. FORAGING - +10. At this level we should have a chance to forage food that can cure poison (stackable). Rangers would also be issued a command to use, so non-Ranger can not use this food to cure state. Would only Work in FBK or HTFBK and would work on pets but not other players.

  3. DEFENSE - Melee +15

Frontiering IV:

  1. CAMPING - +10

  2. HTFBK - Should repel most NPC's and creatures when not in combat. Add faction stuff to controls i.e. go overt, go covert etc. Experimentation on healing level and duration using resource quality. Camp stays up during combat until timer runs out, no range limit. Heals BF with the addition of an entertainer. At max quality resources and experimentation lasts up to 45 minutes (or longer?). Add the ability to drop current faction scanners, turrets and mine fields just like faction bases. This would turn HTFBK into a great staging ground for PvP raids.

  3. FORAGING - +15. At this level we should have a chance to forage food that can cure disease (stackable). Rangers would also be issued a command to use, so non-Ranger can not use this food to cure state. Would only Work in FBK or HTFBK and would work on pets but not other players.

HUNTING

Tracking General:

  1. MISSION LEVEL - Progressively over Tracking level add to our mission level available until we are 2X (more?) our standard combat level. As Rangers we should be able to kill much higher level creatures than our standard combat would allow (traps, tactics etc) and our available mission should reflect this.

Tracking I:

  1. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +5

  2. MISSION LEVEL - +10%

  3. HARVEST - +5

  4. C KNOW - +5

  5. AREATRACK - direction

Tracking II:

  1. CL - Max creature Level +5

  2. HARVEST - + 10

  3. C KNOW - + 10

  4. TO HIT – Creature to-hit +5

  5. MISSION LEVEL - +15%

  6. AREA TRACK – NPC’s

Tracking III:

  1. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +5

  2. C KNOW - +10

  3. HARVEST - + 10. Add the ability to harvest twice from one creature, can be same resource. (75% of current level, 80, for balance reasons for a total of 150%, a reference number being +120 from current numbers)

  4. DEFENSE - Ranged +10

  5. MISSION LEVEL - +20%

  6. AREA TRACK - Distance

Tracking IV:

  1. CL - Max creature Level +5

  2. HARVEST - +10 (75% of current level, 90, by two harvests, for +135 from current)

  3. C KNOWL - +10

  4. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +5

  5. MISSION LEVEL - + 25%

  6. AREA TRACK - Players

  7. /AREATRACK UPDATE - Add the ability to have an updatable waypoint (must stop and re-track) to creature/NPC/Player that would re-track and move WP to current location, similar to how missions work.

TRAPPER:

Trapping I:

  1. RESCUE - +10

  2. TRAP - +10

  3. /RESCUE

Trapping II:

  1. RESCUE - +20

  2. TRAP - + 10

  3. FLASH BOMB - AOE Stun/Blind with certification. Experimentable for duration and percent chance of hit. To give a choice of high to-stick chance to high level creatures with short duration or long effect with lower chance of sticking

Trapping III:

  1. RESCUE - +25

  2. TRAP + 10

  3. SONIC PULSE – KD with certification. Experimentable for duration or chance of sticking.

  4. PLAYER PETS - At this level all traps from a Ranger would work on player’s pets

  5. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +5

Trapping IV:

  1. RESCUE - +35

  2. TRAP - + 10

  3. STATIONARY STICKY MESH TRAP - "Placeable" trap to render creature immobile for a set time frame (minute or more?) with certification. Experimentable on creature level effective on and duration. Player must drag creature to trap, i.e. bleed shot, once in trap creature is stunned.

  4. /TROPHY – collect trophy would allow ranger chance of making framed head of killed creature. Higher CL would give a greater chance of failure.

  5. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +10

MASTER RANGER:

  1. Dathomir Kit

  2. CAMMO - +20, allows the Ranger to hide overt status under cammo until the Ranger fires a shot or trap.

  3. CL - Max creature level +10

  4. MISSION LEVEL – +30%

  5. TN +15

  6. TO HIT - Creature to-hit +25 (put the other +25 in CH, it fits, and Level out +100 creature to hit to a post CB acceptable level)

  7. HARVEST - +10, add ability to harvest three times from a creature, can be same resource. (60% of current level, 100, for balance reasons for a total of +180from current level)

  8. C KNOW - +10

  9. TRAP - +10

  10. ADVANCED BEAR TRAP with certification- Health Bleed, attracts nearby creatures/NPC's (smell of blood) to attack wounded and stranded creature. Experimentable for duration, attraction and depth of bleed, could include sub-component from master artisans like nemondian bird cage LMAO. Would allow us to drop trap at our current location while targeting a creature. Would agro creature to trap not player, we would remain cammo'd/masked.

  11. CAMP - +5

  12. HUNTING CABIN - Crafted by Architects, uses 1 lot, has 75 item storage capacity. Placeable on any planet with footprint of heavy harvester, acts just like a house with higher maintenance (BF heal, logout, etc), allows player ships (with consent) to land or take off. Not re-deedable (??). Only 1 per Master Ranger at a time. My thoughts would be that the cabins would NOT be a PvP base per say (no turrets etc) but could be a great drop off point and temp home.

  13. DEFENSE - Melee +10, Ranged +10

  14. /TRACK - Would be a mini-mission for high level creatures. Similar to area track but with a percent chance to spawn a high level mob or creature.

  15. MED ABILITY – Med usage of +10 and the ability to use stims.

  16. ??? RANGER WEAPON – A Bow, Rifle or whatever, I am not keen on the idea of a trap launcher, we have droids for that ATM, but I would like to see droids be able to hold 2 types of traps in crates. This weapons would be very slow with high damage and very low, or no chance of breaking cammo/mask. This could inflict poison? Stun? Open to ideas.

The Master Ranger awakes one morning in his hunting cabin in the hills overlooking the Imperial Prison on Dathomir. The Ranger cannot remember how many days it has been since visiting a big city, or even seeing more than a few other people from one of the core planets. These thoughts fade away as the Ranger checks the field dressing that he/she applied to themselves last night to stop the bleeding caused by that Rancor that was taken down after dusk and before a well deserved rest.

"I have to remember to thank that Master Doctor I had out a few months ago that taught me some basic field medic stuff. I spend so much time in the wild, it is a blessing that I can heal disease and poison using the local plant life I know so well. The trophy head I got from that Rancor will be nice to sell, but I would rather not go home without the Ancient Bull Rancor head I have been wanting for months for my own house. The last few I killed got so damaged in the head the corpse was useless for making a trophy from."

Just before the Ranger sets out he sends a few messages out to friends with the waypoint of the hunting cabin so they can fly in if they want to join in the hunt later. As the Ranger sets the locks on the doors and head out on his/her trusted mount, a Mountain Dewback, he/she decides to head south east to see if the tracks ofan Ancient Rancor can be found. After getting about 100m out from the cabin, the Ranger dismounts to check the tracks on the ground.

"Hmm, looks like a single set of tracks from an Ancient, but they are hours old. Well lets /TRACK this fellow down."

After a few hundred meters, or more, of searching it looks like the Ranger has found some recent tracks from the desired prey. Now it is time to /areatrack down the prey. After a bit of a hike the prey is spotted.

"Wow!! This is a big one! I think I am going to need to set a trap to lure this creature toward that herb of Brakesets I saw about 50m to the south. At the same time a message comes in on the commlimk from a good friend. 'Hey I am in orbit, are the coordinates you gave me safe to land at? Great! We will join you in a minute' Well it will be nice to have some help on this, not that I need it really (ok so Rangers like to boast)"

The other 2 arrive to form the party. The Ranger groups up, Cammo's the crew to help get that element of surprise and moves off to set the trap. The Rancor agros to the trap, falls in gets a nasty gashes from it. The Brakesets smell the bloodfrom the wounded animal and move in for what they think is going to be an easy kill. The group of hunters stay unnoticed from all the surrounding wildlife.

"Well looks like that herd is going to be dead fast, they got more than they bargained for. Lets get in the fight, and lets take them all out."

The Ranger tosses a Sonic Pulse at the big Rancor and gets a hit knocking the creature down. As the other group members engage a Flash Bomb is tossed in the center of this huge mess blinding and stunning the lot of em. The fight is long, the creatures hard to kill, but in the end the Ranger and his/her group prevails. This time it looks like everyone was careful enough not to mess up the head too bad and the trophy head has been taken. The Ranger gets a kiling in hide and meat from the resulting carnage.

The group gets a reapplication of cammo for a safe trip back to the cabin, and sets off on the trip back. Once back at the cabin one ofthe Ranger's guild mates gets a urgent call...

'Hey I just received a call that we found a base for the (Rebel Scum or Imperial Tyrants, take your pick) we are setting up a strike in an hour. Can you join us Master Ranger? It would be so helpful to have one of you HTFBK's to stage from and help for any creature handlers around.'

The Ranger locks up the hunting cabin and boards his friend’s ship for the trip to Naboo. The party lands at an out of the way city and sets out on speeders stopping a few 100m’s from the spotted base. Here the Ranger drops a HTFBK to act as a staging ground. One of the more militant members of the group, using the HTFBK's defensive computer system sets up a few turrets and faction scanners to help protect the camp during the raid. As the last members of the covert group arrive, everyone puts on their uniforms and gets ready to set out. The Ranger, with a careful application of Cammo over his/her uniform remains covert until he fires a shot, and set out to track the area and report back to the raiding party.

“I found 2 groups, 1 special forces (players) and 1 group of regular army (NPC’s) all with some good military back up. I am going to move closer, group one should approach from the waypoint I am sending the Squad Leader, I don’t see any other resistance on the way in, just incase there are any creature handlers in the special forces group I will meet the group going after the Special Forces in route”

As part one of the group moves in, with the Ranger in the lead by a few hundred meters, the Ranger gets on the comm.

“Hey there is a huge pet Rancor here, dammit, 2 of them. You guys ready? Good, I am going to trap the 2 pets, but when I do the whole camp is going to know I am not just a regular Joe/Josephine out here, so you better come running. My defenses are good as a Ranger but not that good”……………

AWESOME work!

You have taken ALL our ideas of the last 3 weeks and put them into something coherant and I believe DOABLE for the Devs.

I LOVE the outdoorsman, but I believe this has just replaced it.

The only change I would make is about Stealth, If the current idea is unworkable by the devs, then just have Master Rangers be OFF the Radar totally for Stealth.

Otherwise, I support this totally.

Thanks Rooks, I have changed (removed) the stealth and tried to incorporate some PvP stuff without going stealth as, as much as I like the idea, I don't think the devs will go for it.

all I can say is wow... you've been working hard on this stuff

Most of it looks pretty good to me.

The mission difficulty modifier may be a bit much. Personally, my weapon skills are a fair shade more craptacular than my ranger skills, and so while I CAN take some missions a little tougher then I am, there is a point where it gets tough enough where I have no chance at all. Perhaps making it a small modifier, as in maybe every other skill box it bumps you up an extra mission level would be a little better?

The HTFB ones are great.. we can already buy faction stuff while overt in a HTFB, so why not give us the ability to switch while in camp? makes perfect sense to me

A waypoint given when using /areatrack? hmmm... I like how it works now (for the most part), with just a distance and direction. It makes it a little more intersting (although a little more difficult) to use. I personally think the only real thing that needs to be fixed with /areatrack (from my experience) is that when I use it in a player city, it picks up the tracks of the mighty rorian shuttleport. I think you all know what I'm tlaking about there.

/Track? heck yeah! I'd love that stuff!

last one I have to comment on is being undetectable while in camo. Even at +125 there should be a chance of being noticed if you move. If you're prone and motionless, sure +125 could make you undetectable.

Those are the things I thought we might want to think about. Otherwise, that's a great piece of work you got there

Great ideas....
Its obvious you put a lot of time into this, and some excellent things came out of it. I have some questions, critiques, additions if you dont mind.

  • Wayfaring III
/field dressing: The ability to stop bleeding is easily attained by grouping with a medic. With Master Ranger and a Master Combat profession, the /firstaid ability is inaccesible to us, however, this is one of those principle issues I have with not taking, copying other professions' skills to make our own. Most creatures' bleeds arent severe enough to do a lot of damage so this skill I would differ in opinion with.

  • Frontiering
You have some good ideas here, and I like a lot of them.. especially the healing rate experimentation. However, the perks that you list really dont match up with buying a med droid, pulling it out in the field and healing yourself with a couple of good stims and wound packs.

  • Tracking
darn good... cant really add to that

  • Trapping
I would prefer to add more traps to the line as well. A poison trap, causes a DOT on the critter, AoE root trap, I like the idea of a knockdown, but most weapon professions have a knockdown special (pistols, carbine, tka, pike) You stated that you're not a fan of the trap launcher... but I am I have always imagined a weapon that launches a trap housed in a high explosive shaped charge... ready to cut through the toughest hide, releasing the poison. The bow, im not a huge fan of, and as a pikeman... I really dont need a Ranger Rifle.

I want to make things very clear... I love your ideas! Some of the best ideas, work and effort ive seen in a very long time. Please dont for one second think that Im trying to bring you down or diminish your ideas. I prefer an active debate, playing devil's advocate, and keeping the lines of communication open so that a good idea will become a great idea.

While i dont think that this replaces the outdoorsman, it definately adds to it.

    thanks for your ideas....

    respectfully: Drak

I think we should ALL chip in for booze: but here's my plan...

somebody send them a little bit with all the ideas we're putting in. Then, hint that if they want more, we'd REALLY like to see some of these ideas implemented. It has to be good hooch though. Make sure it's something they can't resist more of. Then, when we get updated, we send them a bunch...then we hint we want more Ranger Specific content. Then, we offer more hooch..

How about a Fishing Modifier? +50 at Master Scout. +100 at Master Ranger. You'd think a Master Ranger would be able to get a fish bigger then 0.7 in length. The Modifiers could go into the Wilderness Survival Trees, since that's the XP you get when fishing.
