*Note* I have already capped on Trapping xp, and am grinding Rifleman.

Iseult and I were hunting Torturs and Humbabas and Huf Duns tonight. Every time I would throwa singleP-Dart during combat with the target creature, I would only get 1.7K Rifles xp if the trap stuck that first time. Without throwingany traps, I would get 5.3K Rifles xp. While throwing a single trap, and not having it stick, I received 2.5K Rifles xp. This must be a result of traps taking away from combat xp, but not counting the fact that I am no longer gaining that xp as I have already capped it.

This is an issue that needs to be confirmed. Iseult will be able to do that, but I suggest all of you to keep tabs on your experience while using traps and grinding another profession.

yes, i see the same thing. i throw a trap and the trapping xp splits with the combat xp for about the same total amount of xp. i hope this is one of the issues being fixed in the next publish. you should get the same xp for combat regardless of whether you used a trap. they don't punish the other combat specials that inflict states...why us?

Also, trapping xp should cap at 1.2M like everything else.

Previously someone was complaining about an inability to get trapping xp. I got 100k tonight in 2 hrs on Kashyyk Myd Caverns.

The issue is not that trapping xp is taking away from another xp when you are leveling it.

As stated before, I have already capped on Trapping xp. I am no longer obtaining Trapping xp. However, if I use a trap, I am having my Rifles xp deducted from as if I were still gaining Trapping xp.

That's most likely working as intended considering you'll get the same thing with Medical exp if that's capped and I've noticed that since way before the CU.

Well, don't I feel like an idiot.......

That being said, why the heck would we learn less from one profession which we have not yet mastered if we use abilities from a profession which we already have mastered?

I definitely agree, it really is a little screwy. No need to feel that way, pre-CU exp from healing in combat was the only one that did that if I'm not mistaken. Also if for some very weird reason I'm actually remember it wrong then I definitely apologize and will just shut up on the subject lol.

Write it up as a bi in the In_Live issues thread for this current publish. I haven't seen it listed as a 'known issue' so no harm in drawing attention to it.

Haven't maxxed trap XP on my TC toons, yet, but I'll check if this is still the case withthe new fix. atm I'm going to hedge my bets and say it shouldn't be as they do seem to be drawing from seperate XP pools, but don't quote me on that as *features seen on Test may change before being published to Live*.

coo, nice and sunny out.

Damn right nice weather ken, was at a bbq all last night, very very good night.

About the issue. Yes it does sound weird and something you wouldnt 'expect' to happen, however i have this gut fealing this is a bug that the devs are not going to fix, if it is even a bug at all.

It may be a case that the devs dont want you to blitz away with your capped carbine then hit the thing once with your noob pistol and get the full 5k+ pistol xp amount. I do see how that could counter the 'this is a bug' debate.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for bringing that up, Owen.

I actually think it's working as intended. That being said, what bugs me is that it appears from what Rabid wrote that if he threw a trap and it stuck, he got his XP halved between the rifle and the trap (reguardless of the fact that he wasn't earning any more trapping XP), but when he threw a trap and it didn't stick, he still 'paid for the trap' but the split wasn't even.

Or did I mis-understand?

EDIT: Actually, this causes me to question something the older Rangers might be able to answer. Everyone knows how long it takes to actually throw a trap. I'm a full up MR/MR now, but I'm also grinding FS skills (yeah yeah, shoot me through the toe ) and I turned in all my trapping XP, so I'm still working trapping XP. What I wonder is why I can throw one single trap, and then use my rifle for everything else, and the trap earns what, half my possible XP for the pull?

I think its because if the xp slit per trap thrown was low then it would be very very hard to get trap xp as traps dont do damage. You would have to throw tonnes of traps per fight to get a good split when in reality you only need to throw 1 or two traps a fight. Because of this i think that if you hit a trap once or twice then kill the animal with lets say a carbine, the xp should be split 50/50.

Owen, even if they don't care about this, and it won't get corrected, I still think that anyone grinding weapons xp while at Master Ranger should know about it before they decide to grind. It was a very unpleasant surprise when I helped out a group member who was getting ganked by Bols, so I threw my Sonic Pulse to rough 'em up a bit.
