I'd really like to catch some positive feedback on the ranger, as I keep seeing all these grim posts. I'm getting Master Rifleman and Master Scout. Hands down. No question about it. But I'm looking for an elite to pair with it, and Ranger is screaming at me.

47 Marksman (Rifle IV, Pistol IV, Carbine I, Ranged Support I)
77 Scout (Master)
63 Ranger (Master)
63 Rifleman (Master)

There's my 250 points. Halfway done with Rifleman, and almost mastered on Scout. I love Scout, but I'm seeing all these horrible opinions of Ranger. What am I getting into? Should I say F it and just go with Creature Handler? The girlfriend is also really into Scout. Her skill plan looks like this:

29Marksman (Rifle IV, Pistol I, Ranged Support I)
77 Medic (Master)
77 Scout (Master)
63 Ranger (Master)

Again 250, and she's jazzed as hell about the Scout & Medic. Are we going to regret getting into the Ranger gig?

Rangers are pretty weak at the moment, but have huge potential for improvement. Nonetheless, we are clearly the most underrated and full-on-sexiest profession bar none. Being a ranger is great. And, there are many others on this board who would quickly agree.

Personally I love Ranger. Its my characters perfectly. I dont think its as bad as so many complain. When you compare how Well I Mask Scent with +105 Wayfarer Bothan Camo to how much of a crappy state others like Chef or DE are becoming.

I like ranger too, but everyone is at least a scout and the ranger don't seem all that much better then scout. Hopefully (as we have heard elsewhere) they will boost it...

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

I would suggest that you get Ranged Defense III. It has the BEST attack in the game: Warning Shot.

LOL the XP isn't a big deal. My friend from work wants Master Smuggler/Master Weaponsmith. Now THAT'S going to be a MFer to complete. Rangers seem like a fairly simple elite to me as far as the experience. You'll be getting Scout & Trapping XP constantly, and Survival will come, it's slow, but not a painstaking process. We don't have to go out of our way to gather resources, just play.

Thanks for the votes of confidence with Rangers. I hope the lacking areas will get boosted of course, too. But I'm just not really sold on Creature Handler just yet. I want Master Scout anyway, so maybe I can just switch if I really don't like ranger or something.

Is Medic going to combine with Ranger well?

I have to admit I am considering sac'ing my ranger skill points. I am over half way to master ranger and never use a single ranger ability except mask scent and the +'s to hit animals. I am a squad leader, so the run bonuses come for my group there. The traps from scout and above do not work at all. The higher end camps are broken on their aggro protection, so the point of ranger right now is?????

I can have everything I wanted, that is working, from the ranger tree at master scout. I hope it gets better, but iti is hard to call now

63 Squad leader

63 pistoleer

77 master scout

43 marksman

leaves 4 points, so I guess ranger is gone dady gone ranger's gone

All,

Here's my career plan for now:

Master Scout
Master Ranger
Master Rifleman
Ranged Support Specialist

That leaves me with 4 skill points, so I could keep basic pistol and carbine for no apparent reason.

I love Scouting, I love Rangering, and I love Rifling now.

As for CHs - don't sell out your soul.

I don't see much benefit from the Ranger profession, myself. I've got novice ranger just to use up the scouting exp I keep getting from harvesting. I figure I'll go up the Bioscience & Wayfarer legs until I need the points back.

I have a side business harvesting specific hides for folks, so I suppose it helps a little.

I can fully heal up in a basic camp in about 5 minutes - no need for larger camps as I typically solo.

I figure I had unused skill points, and unused scouting exp. Might as well put the points somewhere until I need them.

Right now, Rifleman and Ranger are a very nice combo. Looking at the current skills like Creature-To-Hit (only works on ranged) and Terrain Negoation (adds to prone crawling speed) these are very nice for the long arm of the Rifleman.

All other Combat professions do not gain as much from being a Ranger (brawler classes get all they are going to get with scout Trapping III) Hopefully, other combat professions will gain more benifits from ranger over time.

You don't need to go all the way to Master Ranger to be an excelent sniper, just the Wayfairing and Field Bio-Science (both of which are scouting XP) is all you need.
