How about making Master Ranger specific weapons such as, Hunting rifle, Hunting pistol, and Hunting Carbine.

That way a Master Ranger can get an excellent creature killing (and individual) weapon regardless of his preferred style.

The certifications for all three weapons are granted at Master Ranger, and they will be crafted by weaponsmiths.

There can also be bonuses that only these weapons can have, (maybe interchangable magazines / cartridges, for different types of damage......blast, energy, heat etc. so we can examine a creature and select the right kind of ammo to use against it) and maybe also a tranquilizer dart option, for a kind of knockdown with increased vulnerability effect.

These weapons don't have to have skill trees of their own, they can work from the Rifle, pistol, or carbine skills you alredy have.

I think this could just work

Let me know your thoughts

Where the ranger lightning cannon? or the Ranger Rocket Launcher... we can get creative with this one

Seriously though, I like the idea... I just want a ranger rifle, but if we need to make the pistols and carbines happy then so be it.

What about a hunting knife, hunting spear, hunting sword (machete?) or hunting knucklers? If we're going to go for this idea, we need to include all the basic combat weapon classes.

I'm not really against this idea. I'm not really for it, either though. I would say make the melee weapons limited use, and the ranged weapons actually require ammunition. The ammunition can be special-purpose (exploding, plasma, tranq) but the weapons have to be specially made to fire that type of ammo. The melee weapons can also be special-purpose.

Also, all of these suffer major negative modifiers when used against humanoid targets. Absolutely zero justification for this, but we can't have modular weapons that work against anyone.

It wouldn't be fair for us to have a weapon that deals whatever kind of damage we want it to in PvP or Duelling, when everyone else has to buy a different kind of weapon to inflict that particular kind of damage........but it would be fair if it only works against creatures, there would be no "Rangers get an interchangable weapon!!!!!! I want an interchangable weapon" arguments..........

And if other professions said " Rangers get an interchangable weapon against creatures, I want an interchangable weapon against creatures too", we can then say, "become a master ranger then......I would like a flamethrower, but understand that I would have to become a commando to get one"

Leave the weapons, as in rifle/carbine (gag, is it really a weapon)/pistol, alone.

Instead, give us a totally different type of weapon, only usable by Masters. Oh golly, how about a Bow? (Yes, we did this one already, and it's still a great idea)

You get the schematic when you make Master. Drop Master, you lose certification totallyand the schematic. You will be able to make a variety of arrows - just like our traps. Same deal with certifications.

Just one small thing to make Masters feel special.

(Wookie Rangers get two special weapons, the bowcaster and the bow. They deserve it, as you ever smell a wet wookie? You think a wet dog is bad??)

I like this idea, but he is right others would complain, but then again, going with the idea of Army Rangers, rangers should look for weaknesses before attacking someone, so in that situation, they could switch out to take down a person in composite, or ubese, which ever. Basically taking advantage of the situation, we should be first strike kinds of combatants anyways.

If they make a single special weapon, I would prefer not a bow, at the very least a special crossbow, that seems somewhat more Star Warsy than a bow IMO.

What if the Ranger weapons were creature killing weapons only, and unusable against NPC's and Players? (it could spam "This weapon is only usable against creatures" kinda like when you accidentally try to use a trap on a lair and it says "traps are only effective against creatures") just to keep it fair.........

It would just be weird...

I can't shoot a human with this? why not?... sounds silly... so do some of the traps.

I would personally also go against the bow idea, leave em' to the Ewoks

How much damage can a bow really do? Seems like I'd choose a T21 over a bow any day...

I was first opposed to the bow, but became a convert. Y'all are thinking bow... think BOW.

At the Master level we get a quest to find the schematic. Once found, a Weaponsmith can make it for us. We can make the arrows. Think traps that can be shot and have longer effects, mainly DoT, like fire and bleeds. Dizzy, blind and slow would also be included - they are what we make anyhow, the only new ones would be fire and bleeds.

It would be usable only against critters, and maybe pets of the animal kind. Shoot at a NPC or player and you get the "won't work" message. Not unlike the "what?" message you get if you try and get a factional Rebel pet to attack a non-overt Imp.

It's not infringing on anyones territory. It does not require a separate combat weapons class to operate. It enhances our creature hunting skills, not a lot, but some. It is class interdependent, as an Artisan has to make it. Of course, the BHs will be mad and demand one for themselves, but they are morons anyhow.

That's why, way back a few months ago, a lot of us liked this idea.

Personally, Id love to see an Asheron's Call style Bow system implemented, Bows wouldnt have a damage range on them, but a percentage baseddamage modifier, damage and damage type range would be based on the Arrows, the arrows damage would be multiplied by the bows damage modifier for the actual damage. Standard arrows would do Kinetic damage, but there could be other types of arrows that do other damage.

Id also have multiple types of bows, with different ranges, speeds, and damage modifiers, just like Asheron's Call, there should be at least one type of Short Bow, Long Bow, and Crossbow. If not more then one type of each, some high tech, some more primitave and natural. The most basic ones should be able to be made by the Ranger themselves.

Rangers should also be able to make Standard arrows, but we might need someone else to construct certain parts for different types of arrows(like, if there were Exploding Tip Arrows, blast damage, we would need the explosive arrowhead to be made by a weaponsmith, perhaps a Poison Arrow with bleed effect, we'd need a Combat Medic to whip something up for us).

Having it useless on NPCs is kinda annoying, and makes no sense except other then a balance standpoint, making us be able to do a ton of damage to creatures but not NPCs would fit with the profession, but a bow is still usable on people, though id make the accuracy take a hit over being completly useless. We should be able to hit creatures pretty well, but NPCs would be harder to hit since we dont study them like we do creatures.

Also, the weapons could give Scouting XP(or, Wilderness Survival?) instead of an actual weapon XP.

And what about weapon specials? We'd need a few(just like other elite-only weapons like the LLC and Flamethrower), or be able to use certain ones from other professions, generic ones like Aim should at least be usable with the Bow.

Even if Bows were added, I wouldnt give up Rifleman, simply because I kill NPCs too, and would want something with better accuracy against them, or usable against them at all if Bows actually wernt. But, it would give the Ranger some combat ability that it could use, that fits in with the hunter theme, and allows pure rangers to kill creatures like it should be able to without relying on other elite professions.

A bow at Master level would absolutely rock. The notion of arriving at the top of your profession andbeing able to use and crafta bow, which for many would seem "primitive," is just what the profession needs to enhance the mystique of the Ranger profession. Yes yes YES! Silent, but deadly.
