Before I start I quote

<start-quote>

"AreaTrack gives you a list of the creatures that are nearby. The radius increases as your skill increases, as does the information shown in the window. It does not point you in the direction of the creatures."

(This was a clarification made by Vass, the Test Center developer)

<end-quote>

Is there any chance we could ask for direction to be included at perhaps Master ranger Status? In a perverse set of reasoning, it will actualy become harder to find stuff you know is there since the area you are scanning will be larger.

Also will direction be included in the /track ability?

Regards

Fenrix.

I don't believe it does, /areatrack is a constant 500m through out the skill branch.

We have requested an increase though... Maybe one day in the future.

Kind of a moot point unless you are within 100m of the lair anyways. Having a hard time tracking Rancors on Dath to tame because I am not close enough to spawn the lair. Always fun for the Ancient Bull Rancors equiped in full Stealth gear to sneak up right behind me.

I recently tried to make a post describing how /areatrack works and how I use it. It might give you some useful information (although it doesn't go into depth about how different levels work--I was a Master Ranger by the time it was implemented). You can find it at http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=21795.

Is this working in-game? How effective can it be for PvP?

Actually it works pretty decently in all aspects. Still needs some tweaking. The only use I have ever used it for was track spys, and other players lurking around where they shouldn't be. I have actually used it tef'd once in a crowd of agro's spawned near an Imperial camp.

At the master level you get range and distance.

Works good for PvP, in that I see the morons coming, see where their camp is, see if there are any reds in the area (known aggro animals), and I maskscent and drag the reds thru the Imps. Talk about not happy.

I use it more in PvP than PvE.

I would LOVE to have overt rebels and imperials show up on the /areatrack as red names or blue names. Perhaps that's something that could be added to the Outdoorsman proposal?

"Perhaps that's something that could be added to the Outdoorsman proposal?"

The Outdoorsman proposal attempts to rationalize every request some way. The very idea we can gauge the name of a player by their tracks is slightly illogical... Much less figure out what Faction they are.

However... The SotP is open to all ideas, and you'll find an item in the Misc. section regarding a Droid Tracking module that proposes being able to see Faction, Guild, Title, on tracked players.

I'm not disagreeing with you per se, Nraas. But consider.. How is it that we are able to gauge the name of an NPC, their faction, whether or not they're aggro (dot/namecolor) from tabbing them at 70m? If there's no reason to justify this, perhaps there's really no reason to justify how we can figure this out from tracking.
