Thread: A Problem often ignored.

I've tried to bring this up before but it always seems to get overlooked. Now I've got ammo straight from Thunderheart though and I'm not giving up this time.

As Rangers we get two new traps for all our skill points and experience. That is a little hard to swallow but what is intolerable is that one of them is completely useless! I'm talking about the Sonic Pulse traps which cause an area dizzy effect. We've all known dizzy doesn't seem to work right on creatures but now we've got proof straight from Thunderheart.

Quoted from here

Dizzy currently only works on NPCs and PCs. Using dizzy on any creature results in nothing more than than the icon appearing beside the creature's name. Is it intended that dizzy not work on creatures and is working as designed? If it is working correctly, what can we expect to make this ability useful against creatures?

Dizzy is meant for PC’s and NPC’s and not creatures. There is a slight effect, but it is minimal. This is definitely a topic we can discuss further in our upcoming Combat Balance focus threads.

This is why TH's writing drives me nuts. He says "Dizzy is meant for Npc's...etc" which seems to indicate its working as intented. If it is, why the heck do have an area effect dizzy trap, only workable on creatures. My suspicion is that its not, but either way this is not acceptable. Sonic Pulse traps are the highest level trap in the game, and by TH's own account, effectively useless.

I think this is worth bringing up and maybe even asking about in our next question to the devs. We have concrete information from their own sources that point out the problem and I want them to know about it.

And how many times have we said that the two Ranger traps don't work. I read what he (TH) wrote and was not amazed. And as dizzy doesn't and was never intended to work on creatures, we got screwed - again, and as usual.

For chrissakes don't pitch a complaint - the Devs will prolly give us some retarded skill no one ever wanted as compensation -

I can see it now - guano gatherer - to make stuff grow better for the Artisans with flora farms.

Meanwhile, forget Ranger traps, I use pdarts and glow wire.

And for my money, TH talks out hisbutt too much. If he doesn't know the answer, he freaking adlibs on the spot. Methinks his alligator mouth may be overriding his hummingbird azz.

Lol

I do think its worth complaining about though. I think we've tended to be too quiet at times, or avoid asking to concrete and to the point questions.

I know we've talked about the problems with traps before, but with this new forum procedure we have to use what we can. If TH gives some ammo we might as well use it, even if it means sounding like a broken record.

Actually, the sonic pulse did a stun I thought? At least it did at first. And the flash bomb was a blind.

Sonic Pulse is AoE stun and dizzy. But the dizzy part seems worthless now.

I must admit... as i progressed to Master Ranger last year I tried the ranger traps as i received them... neither of them were worth it. I lvl'd the traps tree to adv trap 4 using wiremesh traps on rancors in hunting parties with 1 or 2 TKMs... its a sad story but true... even now i have only used the scout traps on a regular basis.

As it stands i prolly have used a trap in over 3 months of consistent play time. Whats the point?

Well now, I had not considered the TRAPS that they gave us that are ANIMAL ONLY would produce status effect THAT ARE HUMINOID ONLY. This one take the cake.

Something has to give.

Ether FIX DIZZY or FIX TRAPS. Personally, I'd like to see some traps work on Huminiods. Skrew the d&mn BH, this one just p!ssed me off enough to not care now.

Maybe this would also be a better question-of-the-week.

I'm with Grumpy on this. Make it a question of the week. Heck, make it MotD.

This past couple of weeks I've put my Ranger on hold as I've been off poncing about in my jedi jim jams on test. My main Live toon has just about levelled Merchant, with me awol, never mind afk.

He's sitting there, in his Fish Egg and Milk tent, earning xp. Just chucking traps and throwing a camp now and then while I'm 'visiting' and doing a little creature harvesting as I move between the four or five buildings he has vendors in has got him enough ranger xp to be more than half baked already. I reckon that once I go back Live regularlike he'll have Master Ranger to add to his sheet.

Thing is, the skills he's used to get to that level are Rifle and Pistol from marksman, harvesting from scout, camping from scout / artisan / dunno really, its not so much a skill as something to slow us down, and, uhm, oh yeah, his old scout traps and a few sticky meshes.

We keep saying that Ranger is the super scout, well, its only super in terms of being the next step up. All the skills he uses are from lower levels. The modifiers he receives are laughable and now we find that the 'best' trap (in as much as its the one given at the highest level) isn't just borked, its FUBAR'd.

I'll be honest, the only thing I've missed from Ranger while off in another place? Tracking. And that's only because I've been plootering about in the middle of nowhere looking for creatures that drop particular loot.

I really don't want to do it, but, because I'l need the skill points, I can see me getting MR and then dropping right out. Biggest thing I'll miss then is the community. Not the profession.

och, see, now you've gone and got me all emotional. Blast. /wipeeye

c'mon, lets get this dumb prof fixed PROPER!

ROFLPIMP you are my new favorite ranger.

And for the record, my staple is P. Darts, and Glow Wire as well. Mostly P. Dart for kiting.

OK we all know traps are screwed, but...

Doesnt a MAster Ranger have a better chance of landing a sucess throwing a pdart than a master scout?

(please say yes )

The only reason I keep the Master Ranger box is out of pride. Realistically, you're much better off dropping Master Ranger and the whole Ranger Trapping line and using those skill points to bolster your weapon skills.
