I recently found out SOE nerfed the afk camp macro for rangers. Now I dont want to finish rangers anymore. Probably going brawler/fencer/swordsman with some tka/pike. Why you ask? Because camping is one of the most boring skills to level in the entire game. I dont see whats wrong with afk camping. Thats all you do when you sit and camp yourself, you sit and wait. Might as well do something worthwhile while waiting for your xp to go up.

And why nerf afk camping? Why not nerf those afk macro buffers that sit all day. Also dont feel like going rifles anymore because brawler/fencer/swordsman's bars dont go down much on even on a krayt with a little brandy and food. I guess unarmed is going to be a pain to level.

If you're that intent on macroing, Ranger's probably not for you anyway. However, you CAN craft traps and camps for wilderness survival XP instead of camping.

The only reason why I'm keeping ranger, because i'm pretty far in the tree. How much do crafting camps/traps give you?

I heard 2xp per resource. I'll max traps first then unwillingly work on camps .

Ok seriosuly - make sure you use practice mode - you get a bonus when you make things in practice mode. Also, look on the crafting forums for a standard crafting macro -- this will save you some wear and tear on your mouse.

Also, see if you can talk your friends into coming to talk with you in the camp, etc.... It goes faster when there's more people. Finally, don't look at it as something you have to do -- just camp when you need to. For example, when you pull a vehicle, don't wait for 15 seconds, you can craft and deploy a basic camp faster than that. You're not going to make tons of xp just pulling a camp to call a vehicle, but every little bit helps....

Good luck!

I don't get it...you're keeping a skill set just because you've come a long way in it....but you don't like where it's headed or how to get there???

Seems to me if you're driving across a bridge and all of a sudden you realize that there's a big hole in the middle...you stop. You don't keep going "just 'cause I'm so far".

Now before you assume that I'm being insulting or degrating, allow me to dissuade that notion. I'm not insulting, I'm just trying to get a sense of where you're coming from, and to offer a little advice.

Yes, I'll admit, the trapping and camping lines of Ranger are generally the most time consuming. But they are also 1/2 of our skills. Camps are a great way to meet and greet people, as well as to rest up/ rebuff between battles. Traps are a good way to kite creatures and can save your butt. Both of these were designed to be PLAYED through.

Yes, you can grind your way through the Ranger proffession...but there is little reason to do so unless you're holo grinding. Ranger is a lifestylemore than it is a proffession. If you don't like trapping creatures and you don't like pulling out a camp when the situation calls for it, you probably don't want to be a Ranger. Rangers aren't elite killers and they aren't even the most effective creature killers. If all you want is to harvest, pick up a good combat prof and Novice scout...you'll harvest more per hour, I can almost guarantee it.

Now, about the macro camping: why do you care?? Like I said, unless you're grinding for a Holo, or to get the badge, there's no need to grind. Ranger is the best proffession for laid back people who want to play the game well, not neccesarily get the most creds or DB the most rebs (or Imps). It's about playing the game and just enjoying it. Thus, grinding through a proffession that achieves it's full potential is a waste.

I don't like grinders and I don't like people getting XP while AFK. I think it's silly that people can walk away from their computer for hours at a time and still be getting XP. So no, I don't think it's a bad thing that they took away macro camping. It causes lag (all the server objects) and it gives people XP for doing nothing other than finding a good camping macro.

That being said, I highly recomend you check out the Ranger proffession and see if you can learn to appretiate the subtle nuances of the proffession. We're probably not what you expected when you got Ranger, and we're not going to be bad-asses. But we do have a great community, and we have a proffession that's rife with oppourtunity to meet people and we are great support troops. Like I said, Ranger is a lifestyle. It is something that needs to be lived to be understood, and while I do understand your frustration at the long climb up trapping and camping, I recommend you see if Ranger is for you. If you can't stand sitting in a camp, and you don't like using traps...well, you're missing 1/2 the point of the proffession and that's silly.

Don't just become a Master Ranger because you're close. Find a proffession (or a hybrid) that suits what you want from the game. I want to be a Ranger. That's why I am one. Find the gameplay style that suits you and choose a proffession from there.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Just get loads of friends and go hunting, you will get loads of camp xp in no time.

Or hold a dueling event in your camp, loads of people will turn up and "da daaaa" tons of xp.

I found that I was getting about 250exp a time by crafting camps in practice mode(that's a rough estimate anyway).

But I got through camping without grinding (for the most part, I have a brief lapse) ... the best way of getting exp I found was to get in a camp with a friend and chat:

Deploy a camp. Chat for 10 minutes. Disband the camp for 1200+ exp. Deploy a camp. Carry on chatting. Not only did I get about 30,000exp in one night, I also had a good chat with a friend who I don't otherwise see very often.

Crafting traps gives you wilderness xp, not trapping xp. So if you craft traps you are actually getting camping xp. Crafting while in a camp I THINK makes the camp max xp faster, but that may just be an assumption on my part. Seriously, the best way to get camp xp is to go on a guild event (if you are in a guild) or organize a group hunt.

I had a friend who would organize contracts with doctors and armorsmiths. When he had a good one he would contact all the hunters on his list and we would go out in a big group and kill/harvest. Then he would buy all the resources we had gathered from us and resell them to the doc/smith. I got just about all my camping xp this way.

Even with the advent of solo groups you can still find people who want to join parties. Usually new players. This also gives you a chance to share your experience and joy of them game with them. New players are usually glad of a chance to stop and rest in a camp between battles. Answering their questions and chatting will usually pass the camp timer pretty quick. Don't worry about waiting the full time however. The more camps you use, the more you craft, and the more xp you get.

Getting camp xp can be a fun and rewarding experience for all involved.

What enticed me into the ranger class, was thatI had been told selling hides gives great money. Another good feature is areatrack. Trapping is not a problem. I finished the tree in about 30min just tossing traps. Now all I have 0134.
