Thread: Ranger Template
Hey everyone,
First post to the Ranger forum. I think I've got my template down, and I wanted to see how if anyone could give me an opinion on it. I know some say Ranger is nerfed, but it's the style I like to play and I think it will get better.
Here's the template:
Master Ranger
Master Rifleman
Novic Creature Handler (Taming Lvl 3)
Any positives or negatives?
Thanks for the input.
Aob
I've used Warning Shot very effectively several times.
Sometimes, I just use it to save my buddy's asses. This doesn't necessarily get me much in the way of XP - especially if it's not on the actual target they are fighting, but rather to keep social MOB's from assisting their friends.
Sometimes, I use it when solo-ing to keep a single large MOB away (and at rifle range) so I can keep hitting it with Mind Shots instead. Then eventually I get to kill it and harvest, but you just have to make sure it doesn't run too far away, so it doesn't get out of range before the bleeding kills it, leaving you with no XP's for the kill.

I thought it would be useful too in keeping the mob's away, but here's what happened last night.
I was on Naboo before heading to Dathomire and I hit a Wort at 60 m or so with a mindshot1, then by the time I got a warning shot off he was already running for me and it did no good. Maybe this was just an isolated occurence.
Should I be prone? What is the best way to use that shot? And please comment on my template before I get too far into it.lol
This is the deal on Warning Shot
When it works it's **edit** potent ....Yes it's that good
I have taken down Elder Snorbels and Mature Snorbels on Lok using Warning Shot as part of my tactics
Fire your first shot, for me I am a Carbineer and I hit with ActionShot1 (a bleeding shot) then I hit with Warning Shot. The beast may run away on the first hit or not do anything waiting for another shot. Fire Warning Shot again till the beast runs away from you. Try to keep the Mob within firing distance and give chase if you need to. Eventually the Mob will charge back at you. Having Warning Shot ready and fire again. The mob may run away or it may keep coming but keep firing till it runs away again. It may take 2 or 3 hits to get it scare it off again. Keep pinging the mob back and forth with Warning Shot till its movement SLOWS. The Mob will act as if its almost paralyzed and you can kite the mob at your leisure.
That is why Warning Shot is so good, after hitting it with Warning Shot you have a Mob that moves about as fast as you can move crawling prone.
Thanks, I'll have to try that tonight.
But back tot he original post. Besides the warning shot problem, does the rest of it appear to be the best template for what I'm doing....hunting big game!
What was that, Abo?...Oh, your template....That's right....heh.
I'm doing the Ranger/Rifleman thing as well, but I don't have any interest in the CH path at all, so mine differs there a bit. Instead I'm keeping the Ranged Weapon Support IV and Intermediate Pistol (just as a close-rnage back-up, since there's no time delay in switching weapons). But that's just me.
Otherwise, your template sounds fine to me. But like I said, I really don't even know much about CH, so I couldn't say whether that choice is wise or not.

I think Master Ranger / Master Any-weapon-or-combat-profession-you-like is the way to go.
I enjoy being a rifleman even though it means I can't duel anyone that won't give me a 40meter starting buffer. I can't wear armor cause I have all my stats stacked to Mind and I am a Bothan who makes a pretty crappy mind-centric character. I LIKE being weak in a certain area, and strong in others. It makes for a very fun time. This is in direct opposition to the "I have to exploit the best skills from every class possible" method, which leads to a bunch of boring copycats who don't need anyones help for anything.
You are already spending a LOT of points in being a Master Ranger and not getting a whole lot for it. Spreading your self across smuggler and pistoleer I think might leave without getting much from those classes either. But hey... it could end up with a very fun challenging way to play. Try it and see.
