One of the fine Rangers on this forum brought this up in a thread i was reading. And I did about 30min of fishing today and was enjoying it. But all i could think about is how much cooler it could be. So-

- Give us boats of some sort. I've read that JTL's basic coding is based on the ground game...Well if JTL has multi-passenger vehicles, why doesn't the ground game? I"m not saying we should have a lot, but maybe like 2 or 3

- Almost every planet has one large body of water if not entire seas/oceans. That's a lot of wasted space really. If they want to add content, being able to row/motor out to see with 3 or 4 buddies, and fish the big fish would be tons of fun IMHO!

- They have Race Track daily records, why not be able to register caught fish daily, for a size record. "....has held Naboo's Fish Record for a day"

- Going out to see, and being able to fish for much bigger fish, would alow us Rangers to harvest useable/marketable quanties of fish. Apparently,Dantooine fish meat is in 'shift' or whatever. But Fishing for it is kinda painstaking and slow (unless i'm missing something) But what if each planet had like Tuna sized fish, and we could harvest 50-100 units a catch? You could have Guild cruises on someones Sorosub2000 OceanYatch.

I realize the Ranger community has much bigger fish to fry.....(lol, get it? get it? he he he.....sorry) But since our revamp is still a ways a way, I figured we have plenty of time to discuss some not so critical aspects of Rangerdom.

Fishing boats and bigger fish that yield more meat are both ideas that have come up recently, though I don't remember the name of the thread. I'm sure they've come up before that, too. Personally, I think it would be a cool addition. And you're right-- all that ocean/lake space is currently wasted,excepting of courseits use as a safe place to cower for jedi who don't want to die.

I agree with you, this is a great idea! IMO, it's a pretty simple addition to the game. Other than the actual act of getting out in a boat and fishing, catching larger fish and having skill level involved in that fits with the existing game mechanics so I don't see how it'd be impossible. Remember that giant floating barge in Star Wars (episode VI, I think)when Jabba took luke out to the great pit of Carkoon... that'd make a sweet fishing boat.

^ Great idea! I really don't think it would be all that hard to do. I did realize though, that what might be a problem, is how does the player call up the boat? There may have to be set points, ie. docks or ports, with terminals to access your boat. I guess it would copie the coding of the StarshipTerminals in Starports. Your boat could only be launched from one of these points, and could only be parked at one of these points. So you wouldn't be able to luanch it anywhere, maybe. But i'm thinking that's how they would have to do it.

on boat types:

- Raft = a Max of 3 persons on board. and would move the slowest. Fishing modifier of +5(for group)

- LongBoat = Max of 6 persons and would be the fastest. Fishing Modifier of +10(for group)

- Yacht = Max of 10/15 persons and would be faster than raft but slower than LongBoat. Fishing Modifier of + 20(for group)

Now, i'm not sure how we would make this Ranger/Scout Specific. Maybe only Ranger/Scouts would get the boat Certifications? That is probably the easiest way. I don't think we should be able to craft them, maybe Rafts, but we'd have to have wood and I don't know how we can get that? *gasp*forage?

I do like the idea of utilisating the water space and harvesting larger quantities of fish meat. Not sure if it'sa job for a ranger though, then again I can't think of anyone better.

yea , i bought it up about us bein able to utilise the large amounts of water on most planets in some way , big game fishin , divin for rare stuff , floatin camps , boats etc the possibilities are quite good really , an I agree would add a new fun an interestin avenue to the game..........................

^ good idea, but My whole idea was to make it also a social event. But, as you say the X34 landspeeder should be a TWO person ride as it is. I think we should get a vehicle a little bigger than an X34 that can be walked on top of. you can park over a lake/ocean and you and your 3/4 buddies can fish for BIGGER fish.

mabye let passangers on AV-21s, X32s, and flash speeders so that if someone has a pole equiped they sit on the side of the vehicle (root the speeder while fishing "no engine noise or anything") with your feet dangleing in the water while you fish. Now that would be cool.
