Thread: Bounty Hunter Grouping = Welcomed by most
There's some general feedback on the BH forum that Bounty Hunters are actually interested in grouping with Rangers now that they realize we can assist on their mark kills... it may not be that exciting for Rangers as all you get is some good weapon/combat skill and some +- BH faction... but it sure is fun and allows us to play our "defender" role well.
So if you want to give it a go... start hanging out by the BH Mission terminals and see if you talk some BH into allowing you to tag along... for a price of course ![]()

Kill stealing may be wrong but umm its not illegal...
Condoning use of /rescue in this manner? only small time reatared ways can we sue it....such as pissing people off....i dont think i have used /rescue in weeks cause its soo useless
The people flaming me here are obviously not reading my other threads... I've openly asked for a show of hands in the BH forum if this would be acceptible and it generally is...
I'm trying to find a way to bring BH and Ranger together as a grouping possibility instead of being a bounty hunter hunter.
As far as "Kill Stealing"...how on earth is /Rescue supposed to work then? I'm just supposed to aggro the critter and then NOT DO DAMAGE??? Auto-attack instantly starts to fire the second rescue kicks in... or would you have /rescue just mezz a mob instead? I'm all for suggestions and improvements to this skill... but please don't expect me to use...
/geeisitokifitrytousemyonlyuniquerangerskillnow?
Its our DEFINING skill so don't expect us not to use it.. get use to our class and work with us and realize we're trying to fill our role just as much as any class is.... you kill marks... we rescue people... or do BH have some sort of special immunity in this game??

Rescue someone in your group, Zarn.
Or rescue someone that has asked for your help.
Do otherwise, and some will consider it kill stealing.
In some situations I would care, others I might not. Just be prepared for some smack talk if you do this when it may be considered kill stealing.
To my understanding... /rescue is to be used to assist other members of your group or players engaged in PvP (which acts no differently than a covert member healing an overt member - a TEF is slapped on, and game on for the interviener). But the thought of /rescue being intended as a "bounty hunter hunter" skill is a bit far fetched. Can it work in this manner? yes. Should it work in this manner? <SOE fill in blank>. Is it griefing to do this to a bounty hunter who is actively engaged in a mark? Yes.
The PvP engine in this game is built around the GCW... if you are reb and attack an imp - you should be open to PC attack. But I fail to see how a bounty hunter running his mission is in the same position to opening himself up for random attacks by rangers. I for one will never do this (unless of course the BH is an overt member of the opposite faction ![]()

My character from day one has been CorSec faction aligned... i'm +5000 CorSec faction and have been since first week. Not EVERYONE in the GCW is rebel or imperial and in fact CorSec went rogue BECAUSE they want to remain neutral...
Why does eveyone have to be either rebel or imperial in this? Clearly there is a true neutral faction here... of which hutts, smugglers, corsec are a definite member of.
And if smack talk is all I'm going to get from /rescueing someone... then so be it... I welcome the smack... just be prepared to get healed in the meantime... because that's what I'll be doing to you.

Zarn,
I completely argee with you about other factions and conflicts happening in SWG. Unfortunately, the PvP engine was designed around imps and rebs... but more importantly - designed around player CONSENT. This also addresses BoyOfLights comments about markmen, etc... the fact is that if you use /rescue to engage any PC without consent you are being a griever. Sure, all you will get is nasty /tells and maybe a friendly visit from a CSR, but I'm just saying that you will give the ranger profession a bad name if this becomes common practice. Let's face it, besides the '**edit** that's a nice camp' - rangers aren't known for **edit**... I just would rather not have the reputation of rangers to be one of kill stealers or grievers.
That being said, I think your own use of the skill provides a very interesting aspect to the game, and I applaude you for your creativity... but something like this is bound to get out of hand fast, and after reading the BH forum topic on this issue, they don't seem to want our unsolicited "protection" against marks.

I can see what Zarn is trying to say here...I think.
To be restricted to using /rescue to only player consentual situations does limit its usefulness. But in most ways that I see it being used without player consent are potential griefing situations.
To compare, look at some of the Squad Leader abilities. Many of them I would not want forced upon me if I were not in the SL's group (Forced Aiming, Concentrate Fire, etc). Now I understand that the SL's abilites are centered around a group'scalculated tactical actions whereas the Ranger's /rescue is based on "spur-of-the-moment" spontaneity, but neither of which should be used in a way that could harass another player. The SL is not even given the option. His abilities do not apply to those outside of his group. Maybe that is for a reason...Maybe /rescue should be the same way.

The reason THIS bounty hunter thinks we are different here is that BH missions are our perk. We busted through Master Marksman and Master Scout to get them. They are our missions. They are unbelievably difficult to get to, much less complete. What you are suggesting is hijacking someone else's missions, and kill-stealing. Neither of which is a good idea.
A Ranger should not interfere with a BH's mission (or anyone else's when you get right down to it) without permission from the BH.
This is MMO etiquette 101.
if that were the case then I would argue that /rescue should be a medic skill... or a squad leader skill.... (first ask yourself why its NOT in those trees to begin with) and the answer is.... this is intended to be a skill where I can JUMP INTO COMBAT with something in order to defend something else... I'm not there to heal you.. not there to drag you away... i'm there to FIGHT whatever it is you are fighting... its the FULLY INTENDED DESIGN of /rescue for me to be able to fight whatever you are fighting.
If you feel that it should be limited to members of a /group then thats most likely the nerf we'll get. I don't want to be a grief player and I fully realize that many BH may spend 11 points and start hunting ME which would suck... (i've already been killed 6 times by hiroz who seems to now be perma red to me)
I just don't think it should be left up to players to have to "police themselves" on when and when not to use this skill because someone is going to be clueless and try the same tactic I did and find out that they've done something terribly wrong. (I fully realize that "I" took it to the nth level btw) and thats why I've opened up multiple dialogs to try to fix this situation.
In the end.. I WANT to be a ranger.. I WANT to use my sole unique skill.. I just don't want to have to ask myself... "is this illegal for me to use this skill right now?" that just seems like too much of a player problem that is going to lead to griefing.
I'd LOVE to find a way to remain a bounty hunter hunter... but my suggestion was to allow BH to be OVERT and COVERT thus flagging whether or not they can be attacked... but then again.. only a small handful of supremely powerful BH would ever go OVERT...
Keep in mind that as a Ranger... I'm hitting for 125 points BodyShot2 ... so its not like I'm "qwning" anyone.
I really wish SOE would address this issue... its going to get out of hand if they don't.

A ranger rescuing a bounty hunter from the bounty hunter's mark? I'm confused LOL
