What is the quantity of milk you get per milking at tracking 4/MR?

Whats the quantity of eggs you get per nest at tracking 4/MR?

the amounts are variable. Milk depends on the size of the creature, and eggs seem to be a totally randomly generated number. Neither have any call on your foraging ability or any other scouting/ranger skill since anyone regardless of profession can do these.

I hear master scouts can get around 30 units of milk per milking. I was hoping to get a confirmation that master rangers would get perhaps 50-60 units.

Regarding eggs, dont rangers get a +harvest bonus to those?

Ok, sorry. I'm sure this has been explained a million times before, but, What is Milking? I have heard the topic pop up quite a bit in the past couple weeks, so I was wondering what it is and how you do it.

Milking is a new ability that the devs added to increase the volume of milk. It used to be only found as loot drops from big NPCs or in dungeons, but now you can maskscent (or be concealed) and use the radial command "Collect Milk" to harvest a set quantity per animal.

I am a master scout/master rangeri definitely do not get consistently 30 milk per milking. It is totally dependent on the animal. The kaadu (which is a bird and shouldn't be able to milked since it doesn't have mammary glands) gives around 17 per milking regardless of creature harvesting skill. I have a alt on test with 0 scout skills and my ranger used conceal on him and he harvested more milk than the ranger did twice in a row, so i know it is not based off the harvesting skill.

I did the same tests for eggs, and they are totally variable. Sometimes you get 10, sometimes 3, sometimes some dumb bugs. I think that the devs definitely need to make these (as well as mollusk and crustacean harvesting) based off the harvesting skill.

What? Whoa. Huh? You mean regardless of Scout/Ranger profession, right?

Not just *anyone* can Milk, correct?

You have to be at least a Scout, correct?

The player must have a /maskscent or /conceal effect enabled.

Since /conceal can be given to non-scouts, it is possible for someone without scouting ability to milk creatures.

This was supposed to be a Scout thing remember?

So, here's what we're going to have in a couple more months.

Chefs will run out and get Novice Scout so they can mask scent, and bypass us as a source of milk.

In a couple months they'll start crying about having to have scout to milk (as opposed to having it to pop a camp) and it'll get nerfed so that anyone can milk.

Dammit! The Space Expansion isn't even out yet and this is already turning into Everquest.

Hey look at this... "Horizons" in stock at Best Buy.

Actually, scout doesn't get maskscent until exploration 2. It's a 20 SP cost rather than 15, which might discourage chefs dabbling in scout slightly.

Yes. But the reality is, as NRass has said, that anyone who is under /conceal will be able to milk. So, if you want to make sure that chefs don't go to their nearest ranger buddy for a /conceal, charge them or don't do it.

I hope. As with everything else, I'll wait and see how this plays out. Hopefully I'm merely operating with inadequate info at this point, in which case I'll be proved wrong, and I'll be happy if that happens.

BUT (here we go again), at this point it's wrong. Sorry, no amount of analysis will make me feel otherwise.

As far as I'm concerned, this "ability" should be exactly that. An Ability. Just like mask scent. It should not be a check against mask scent. It should be a check against profession/level ability/mask scent.

Idon't care if someone has to get Novice Sout and work up to Exploration 2, or whatever to actually get the ability. That's fine. No pain, no gain, and that's how it should be.But for someone to just need a Scout with maskscent to cover them, and then be able to milk a creature that they have 0 professional knowledge of?

That's f'd up. seriously.

Has anyone here ever milked a cow (by hand I mean, not in the big scale commercial dairy farms, I'm not that lucky)? Ever have the cow try to kick you? I have. Been kicked a couple times too. That's what I got for not paying attention.

You're telling me that Joe Chef, who only goes into the woods to pee, is going to be ableto milk a Ronto?

I can honestly think of no RP justification for that. I can think of no mechanic justification for it. What I can think of, is the cry-baby leet d00dshave already had their way with the Dev's.

Why not just do this? Get rid of skill points. Make all skills dependent on XP. If youearn enough XP in that skill, you can learn it. That way I can play a real SWuniverse Ranger, instead of some half-skilled/ability impaired freak that was based on all games featuring Rangers prior to this, instead of being modeled on the ACTUAL SW Canon.

And while we're at it, let's put some freaking hobbits/halflings in this game so I can really have fun sitting on my fat rear all day, stuffing my face.

Oh! Wizards too! Gotta have us some of those.

Actually from what I understood, "milking" isa Scouting ability. You get the ability by activitating the radial menu(same way as harvesting). But I stick by my belief that only Rangers should get milk. As is, you're gonna have every part-time Scout(ie. BH, CH, Armorsmiths) milking creatures, and that will harm the market for those that are "true" Scouts.
