As I stated in the title, I wish that Ranger would become a viable combat profession in itself so I can drop Rifleman and go Master Ranger and Master Creature Handler.I think if the Ranger Revamp goes as plannedMRanger/MCH would be the ultimate PvEtemplatefor5 reasons.
1. You can have level 70 pets tanking for you. Do you know what its like to have a lvl 50 Kimoglia tank for you that is 80% down the resists board and has about a 18k HAM? The whole time you can sit back and barragewhatever the Kimoglia is tankingwith thebest attacks or weaponsyou have, one being the proposed and very much wanted Ranger Bow. If youre a CH then you know.
2. If the Ranger Revamp goes right, you will have ultimate creature knowledge and toughness (what we should have allready but we dont) which if you dont know optimizes your ability to take down the most feared and vicious creatures and your boosts yourdefense towards them.
4. The ability to track animals, peoples andplayers down with /Area Track!! And with the proposed "/Track" be able to track what I just mentioned with extreme accuracy and precision
3.If you are MRanger/MCH you will have 47 skill points left which you can put into medic so you can have the ability to use Stim-C's and make Stims for your pets as well, and if there is anyone who doesnt know whata Stim-C is, I'll just call it a "Lifesaver"
3.AndCause being known as a MasterRanger/Master CreatureHandler, who lives off the land, who can survive in the most barren areas, who can setup bases and massive camps, who wields mighty a Mighty Bow and a Survivalists Dagger (proposed),who can control vicious and super strong pets to do your bidding and being able to call your self a "Master of the Wild, a Master Hunter, a Master Outdoorsman ",IS JUST THAT DAMN COOL!!!!

I think if ranger is going to bea combat orientated profession like a realy hope it does, it should require considerable investment in an elite combat profession.
So to be super hunter you must be master rangers + an elite combat profession.
Ranger abilities should greatly enhance existing skills you already have against creatures.

/Agree, right now Ranger does need to be complimented with an Elite Profession, but that what I am hoping will change, I wanna be able to walk around and do as much damage as aRifleman would!!I love Ranger, I think its the best prof in the game and I just dont wanna see it go down hill! Either way even if every last Ranger onmy serverleft the game or went Jedi, I will stick it out!!

As much as I would love to be a MRanger/MCH I do not think Ranger will ever be a combat profession by its self. Ranger is a support profession that should trun acombat profession into a elite combat profession. I am not a CH, but I do think that Ranger should give good bonus to CH.

/cheer for Zap.
Don't worry, I'll still be around.
I love Master CH and Ranger, but it is definitely a group combo. Back when everyone was weak it really worked well for group hunts(though at the time I thought it was weak to arggg. Nothing like a little perspective). I would stand back and control the pets and throw traps and the others in the group would pound away. Afterwards I would throw up a camp and we would wait for people to get back from the cloner (usually the Doctor doh! in which case I would run back and get him).
Now I have a lot more heavy hitters in my team. Zap used to be in a guild with me so he knows my hunt partners - Ekabukk the defense stacker, Sowi the Commando, Frkjerm the Bounty Hunter, Vryl the TK/Commando. I harvest a lot with that group. However, since they are so strong they tank a lot better than my pets ever can. Eka and Vryl tank, we shoot, and there is really no reason for CH unless I am hunting solo.... and solo I don't have the firepower to take anything big down. Which is why I am now dabbling in my favorite professions and Master in my less favorite professions.
I see this as a problem that needs to be fixed from the Creature Handler end however. Most Rangers I think want Ranger enhanced in a way that will allow them to hunt effectively without using pets. This means adding combat ability and defenses that will enhance a combat profession rather than make us a combat profession.
I would rather see group play come back into the game then see us become as uber as Riflemen.

I would have liked to see that getting MR would reduce the cost of all boxes by one. It would be a nice culmination of the profession. SL should get that too. Then you could getMCH/MRM/MR. Then we would truely be the master hunters they promised

I personally hate the idea of a pet taking the damage for me, but thats just how i see and play the game. Thats whats cool about ranger: It costs 250 skill points but you choose you combat level, your support role and to what degree you want to involve yourself in areas.
For example, i dont like making my pet get hurt just to save my ass, so i choose not to go CH, instead i want to be the ultimate hunter, a legendary hunter so i take master combat profession. Whatever profession i select to go along with ranger, im still a ranger, its just ive made my ranger how i want.
Ive noticed from many posts are in the other professions with less sp requirements they see their 'template' as they are one profession and another and another etc. When i see ranger, all i see is people want to be a ranger through and through, they select the other professions only to concentrate their ranger in one direction. I dont see myself as a ranger and a rifleman and a medic. I see myself as ranger who specialised in stealthy, ranged hunting that can heal myself slightly. Its this difference that makes this community so cool, no matter what set up we have, we are all rangers through and through.

Here's the Rub:
We have the exact same SP requirements as doctors, as the comparison has been drawn. And whereas doctors get new skills and abilities to help the GCW in their way, we need to get skills to help us in ours. The wilderness is our playground and we should be feared within it. Thus we shouldn't be a combat proffession in and of ourselves. Survivalists don't neccesarily know how to fight a war. What we SHOULD be unrivaled in is hunting. So we should be the first and only combat prof that is PvE- centric. Commando's and BH's were originally supposed to be PvP-centric, but as anyone who was slowly plinking away on a big animal, only to see it drop as a rocket slammed into it, and watched as the commando ninja harvests your kill knows, they also work quite well in PvE. Thus there needs to be a proffessions who skills do NOT translate as well. We should be PvE-centric with skills that work in PvP, but are not as powerful. I.E. modifiers that make us do more damage against creatures. A bow would do little against composite armor.
I have no problem having an elite combat prof in addition to Ranger. I think if we want to be fighting in the GCW, we SHOULD have to have a combat prof. However, I want Rangers to also have a choice.
My personal opinnion is that we should have traps that affect droids and turret towers (delay firing 10sec, reduced damage, etc.) and /camo should work against NPC's and turrets. I.E. if a covert rebel uses good camo (which should have to be experimented on) then sneaks up ona base, the covert scanner should miss him, as should the turrets. and /combatconceal (i.e. stealth) would just ROCK as a PvP skill that doesn' overpower us.
Rangers should either be able to disarm minefields, or should be able to succesfully traverse them (knows how to read the land to see where earth was raised to plant a mine.
litle skills in the GCW and a few special attacks (that would be more effective in PvE) that work in PvP would be the best for me.
That adds up to us being PvE-centric, with good combat skills against critters, special attacks with Ranger weapons that do extra damage to creatures, but work in PvP, and a role in the GCW that takes our existing skills (camo, traps, TN) and makes us into a great skillset to have for the GCW.
imagine this scenario:
A base raid is planned during the hours of vulnerability of the base. The owners of the base know the vuln. times and prepare to meet there 30 min before hand. An hour before the assault is launched, a squad of 5 ranger/rifleman make their way towards the base. At 100m out, they conceal themselves using local flora and fauna. They crawl towards their destination and spread out into a semi circle around the perimeter of the base. Along the way, they deactivate the minefields. When they have reached their posistions, they hold, and using ghillie suits, make themselves invisible to the human eye. they then proceed to report in as the defenders begin to show up. They report names, combat proffessions and the number of defenders. When everyone has shown up, a single Ranger who stuck with the main assualt team, moves up and areatracks the whole population. he double checks that the defenders have not left players behind the base as backup. Scanning the ground for information, he sees all footprints going right towards the base. There are no secondary defenders here.
The assualt team moves forward, and as the defenders begin to see them, they begin putting on armor and taking out droids. All of a sudden, their combat medic is dead, they look around wildly and see 5 Rangers pointing t-21's in their direction. AMBUSH! one of them screams, but it's too late, because in the confustion, they forgot about the large assualt group making their way in. All of a sudden hell breaks loose as the defense team is overwhelmed and without a combat medic. The Ranger turn their attention to the base's defenses, quickly throwing traps they learned from both years of living in the woods and from having existed in a time and place where droids and electronc gizmos are an everyday thing.
Suddenly, the defenders realize that their turrets appear to jammed. Not only have they slowed down and been doing less damage, but a thick, sappy substance has rendered the servomotors from working properly- the defenders no longer have manual control over their turrets. (that's another trap idea based upon combating the new manual control feature). Retreat!!! Their squad leader shouts. They begin falling back to the base, but the Rangers, seeing this happening, all take aim at the SL. With 5 presise, well timed headshots, they take the Squad Leader out of the battle. The remaining enemy forces are summarily defeated, and the base lies open to the assault team.
While the combat profs played a larger role in beating the base, the Rangers made it easier for them to do so. I don't want to be a direct combat prof...i want to be a skilled operative who uses years of wilderness experience in an innovative way during combat. i want to be the forward scout troops. That would make me a happy man indeed.

Very good Phenix, I like your idea and if you dont mind I'll express on it. We both would like to see Ranger become a viable combat profession, but I think some of the other folks who answered my post may have misunderstood me.Phenix stated that we shouldbe PvE masters, I never said Ranger should be a viable combat proffession to the point that it could be adept in PvP. We are supposed to be PvE masters and we are supposed to be able to handle the PvE world with just Ranger by itself!! Phenix also stated that Ranger by itself shouldnt be effective in PvP/GCW unless parred with an Elite Combat Proffesion such as Rifleman. Any Ranger who would wish topartake in the GCW or PvP must take an absolutely neccesary Elite Combat Proffesion.
But back to the point almost every ranger I know would love to be able to handle the PvE world, with just Ranger alone. That is the dream for and goal for many rangers to achieve. Most rangers I know are also moderate to heavy Role Players, who very much enjoy being known as a Ranger, an outdoorsman, a survivor, one who needs not the modern day methods of combat and perks of technology. Because most Rangers feel that way they usually pair up with Creature Handler which adds more of a Role Playing "No need for technology" feeling. But since Ranger alone is not strong enough the Ranger community tends to stray towards Rifleman which even though boasts high tech weaponry, compliments Ranger in the best way possible.
All I ask of the Devs is to give us something! Just something large like the Ranger Revamp or even something a little smaller, for example what Fredrick mentioned " A skill point reduction for Ranger so we could be MRM/MCH/MRanger". Just something!! Well anyway I may have bored you all with this post.. lol
Once again Nice Words Phenix!!
