Heh, if they think we are the Master Harvesters, they haven't played a Ranger - ever.

I posted the other day about how barren of random spawns some of the planets are and it occured to me - This problem has a direct impact on our profession. What can you harvest from if there are no animal spawns?

So here are the current game mechanics that have made our class even more useless than it was at launch:

  • Land Speeders and Swoop Bikes - who needs a terrain negotiation bonus when you can just hop on one of these babies. These vehicles are also related to the next item...

  • No need for camps - if you can get back to civilization in a hurry, why even bother medding up in a camp with subpar crafting stations, no protection, and no way to heal Battle Fatigue, I mean, what other purpose do camps serve currently? Even if you can't get back to civilization, someone can just whip out a Medical Droid and your wound problems are solved.

  • Harvesting Droids & Veghash - why bother spending skill points in theTracking Line if you can harvest as much as a Master Ranger with these things to help you? Unless you want to be able to use the /track skill... which brings me to...

  • Limited Spawns - what is the point of even having the /track ability when nothing will ever show up on the list? Not only that, but there is rarely a need for the use of Camo kits with no random spawns to hide from.

We all know there are other problems, like the to-hit bonus not being applied to melee attacks, not being able to use our traps against humanoids (player or NPC), and /forage being a completely useless skill what with chef food in the game (no problem with the chef food, but why can't /forage come up with something more interesting like buried treasure?).

I really hope Thunderheart sees this thread, but somehow I doubt it.

*Edited my message to correct the name of the skill line that gives /areatrack and the Creature Harvesting bonus. It used to be called Field Bioscience but now it is called Tracking.

Thunderheart graced the Radiant forum last week with some michevious teasing. During the rather long post (and amazing to watch normal trolls bloom into happy chattering kids), he mentioned that he had a human Ranger.

/ponder
/eyes GRM humans

Do Rangers already have stealth mode? One of them might!

All teasing aside it will be interesting to see how he views the role of his Ranger character. Is he Aragorn (sorry phen)? Antarian? Crocodile Hunter? Something else?

I love the part where he apologizes...

there are several proffessions he doesn't mention, but he seems almost ashamed not to use his Ranger more. I like the looks of this. If he wants to be a Ranger, but doesn't want to use it (but knows he should, due to the community) I'm feeling the start of a major guilt trip...

I'd do it myself, but I'm a guy, and cleary the role of guiltripping is grasped firmly by the slyer mind of women. Us guys are too stupid to guilttrip properly.

Paks, I nominate you. Use your Boston accent and your sly ways to make him move Ranger to right after JTL...

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Yes, if he actually has a Ranger character then he MUST realize the shortcomings of this class.

That or he doesn't see a problem with them they way they are currently...
