Thread: How can you tell if a creature will dethblow you?
I know there's some info in the examine window.... I think it says 0 or 1.. are there any other numbers besides that? Is it just 0 means it won't and 1 it will, or is there a range like0 - 5?
In all my travels, I have NEVER come across a creature whoes Killer tag read anything save "0". This includes beasts like Dragonets and even Krayt Dragons which will take the time during combat to Deathblow everyone they fell. I can only assume that either Killer is an indicator of how many kills the creature has made or that the Killer tag is broken just as the Special Attacks tag reads "None" on everything.
I can pretty much guess which creatures will deathblow, what I really want is Social and Stalker tags as well as information on Bone type and amount.

I read somewhere that the number was actually the number of deathblows that that critter had already dealt out. But I cannot confirm this to be true and I am unsure whether to believe it or not, perhaps someone can enlighten us. I also haven't put much thought into testing the theory by observing spawning critters to be sure they are all at 0... Under that theory most critters have a 0 because they have not encountered players, a one means they have db'd one player... well you get the picture.
This is not true. I've never seen a creature have a greater than 1 number. Stuff that just spawned has a 1 if they are killer.
The one means that the creature almost always deathblows. I've had them not deathblow me. The circumstances usually are that the creature is fighting someone else, or I got hit by a range attack.
Zero means that the creature doesn't deathblow. This isn't a 100% indicator. I've had 0's deathblow me, but this is rare. Most of the time, they do not db.
No way to be 100% sure without knowing the animal.
But generally anything with a 1 will kill if it can, anything with a 0 isn't supposed to kill.
If you are incapped it will probably kill you if it's 1 unless someone starts shooting it or it doesn't bother to come out and get you.
Some 1's seem to always DB you. Been incapped by Rancors and they always immediately db even if someone's shooting at them. But have had Baz Nitches incap me God-knows-how-many times and they will sometimes not DB you even if they have the chance.
It might have something to do with ferocity of creature also.

When having a tame go bad on a baby and incapacitated by one of the adults as a result, I have been deathblown 100% by Killer: 0 creatures. Now that is only four or five times, but I would say attacking babies is a good way to ensure a trip to town is forthcoming.
omg you are right, that explains it!
I wondered whyI sometimes get deathblowed by a killer 0 creature - but asI remember I always was incapped three times in a row when that happened
In a related matter....
As a Ranger advances we are lead to believe that we can see or know more about creatures than a standard player. Why then can we not tell when an animal will swarm if we attack a single creature?
