Thread: Belligerent Rangers
In cantina, coronet -bloodfin:
Airaim (a Rebel Ranger): "I need Tracking 3"
5 second pause
Airiam : "Mokazza, did u hear me?"
Mokazza: "What's that?"
Airiam: "I need Tracking 3"
Mokazza: "Is that your way of politely asking for 8k worth of free training?"
Airiam: "What ever"
Airiam:" I'd rather pay, than get attitude"
Mokazza:" you've already got enough"

Ugh! Those people REALLY bother me. ![]()
It is sad to see that that kind of behavior has crept into the Ranger community. ![]()
I was one of those "belligerent" Rangers last night in Moenia. I qualified for Frontiering IV, did a search and found a Master Ranger in the city. I did a polite tell to him and got no response. No problem, busy or something. I did a search a little while later and saw that this Ranger had moved out of the city, so they were defintely not LD or AFK. Sent another polite inquiry. No response. Did another search a little while later, saw he had moved again to another location. Sent one more polite tell. No response.
Now, there could have been many legit resons why he didn't notice the tells, so I remained polite and just said I thought it was impolite to not respond to a fellow Ranger since we have always been such a tight-knitt community. I then left him/her alone.
I'm perfectly OK if someone doesn't want to teach ahard earned skill that they may have had to purchase from an NPC trainer, that's fine. I just think it's polite to at least respond and say so, that's all.
Heh, I've been on both sides of this issue a few times myself. Being a ranger, it's sometimes hard to find someone to train with. Getting up to Frontiering IV took a loooong time and I wound up missing the vast majority of anything sent to me in /gu or /t while I was surfing these forums to pass the time. I'm another one of the people who almost never use the spatial chat in favor of group or guild. That tiny little chat window just never seems to draw much attention.Even when I'm actively playing I'm frequently so busy either not being there or in combat watching the combat spam. By default, /tells don't go to my combat tab and the nice little tone often gets lost in blaster fire. 80% of the people in my PA also work with me so I started catching a lot of flack. "Where were you last night?", "Dude, do you ever answer tells?", "You fall asleep on the keyboard again", and "Wanker". Eventually, I created several windows (my poor cluttered UI) for every type of chat. Tells, combat, group, guild, spatial. Yes, it's annoying, and yes, it's a lot of clutter. If I don't get a response from someone I ask questions to (seldom do) then I just let it slide and move on to something else. Luckily, I've met a couple other really cool rangers and we take turns training each other. I bought my training up the camping tree and they got everything else. I appologize if this post is long and doesn't make much sense. I'm at work right now so I keep losing my train of thought. LOL
I have a crafting droid, because hey, i craft, and I often miss tells that are sent my way when camping/crafting. That's why I usually move to email after the first /tell doesn't go through. If I don't get anything back after ten minutes, the person in question is too busy to deal with me, and that's fine.

I pretty much live in guild chat and instant messages.
Airaim, I would suggest, a more polite request to someone than "I need tracking 3... Did you hear me?". Maybe something along the lines of, "Mokazza, if you have a second, would you mind training me in Tracking 3?"
To be honest, if someone walked up to me and said "Train me in Tracking 3", I might not train them either or I would make them answer a Ranger question to test knowledge or something fun. To me, that's a rude way of asking for someone's help.
I have trained many, many Rangers and all are extremely polite. I don't need any more apprentice points.
Way to go Mokazza.
Charonazzar, If you ever need training you can send mea tell or email...I am usually on unless I'm at work!

Politeness counts.
Ask me nicely, you get training. Come with an attitude, leave with an attitude and the saying, "Go pay the man". I paid for 90% of my training, simply because there wasn't any other Ranger around who could train me. I have been maxed on apprentice pts forever, so that has never been an issue. If I see a Scout or Ranger I have even ask if they need any training if I am bored, or standing around,or whatever. Dunno how many people have my name for training, but if I am on-planet they usually get trained. I do take notice of please, thank you, and those that omit, well, I can get busy, or they can come find me, somewhere in the boonies, darn typos anyhow, that shoulda been -6000, not 6000, sry.
A lot of the people I hang with feel the same way. One smuggler who's name will go unmentioned has been known to mess with people who are rude, and the tells were priceless.
A little niceness goes a long way. You get what ya earn.

RUDE PEOPLE SUCK!! And when they are rude Rangers to their own kind, that is just stupid. I tried to get one guy blackballed from PC training. He goes by Dullas on Radiant. He talked to someone in my group about scout training while in the cantina, my friend gets in touch and groups the guy in our group. When I come into the cantina I pull up the radial, hit train, and whatever he wanted to train in. I then started talking to him. You know, what do you think of the skills, how do you like it. Just some small talk. No response. He takes the training, leaves group, and leaves the cantina. The whole time I'm making comments like, "Hello", "you're welcome". No response. All I could think was, what a jerk.
I have now stopped training unless one word comes out their mouth.
"Please"
Anything else gets 0 response.
Being only 1 of 2 original rangers on chilastria I shelled out about 50 -60k in training
All the nooobs that have now, jumped on the ranger bandwagon, assume we got free training like they are getting now that there are more rangers everywhere.
So if you can't ask nicely do not ask at all.
Also, Why shouldn't you help people out in the game as much as possible. Yea, some people are jerks, but why not take the high road and exhibit kindness. When people ask for training, and I train them, I am tipped sometimes. I will flat out tell them that tipping is not nesecary. IMHO people who ask for money in return for training are greedy. Yes, I understand some of us payed money for our training (I know I did.) but why should we ask others to undergo the same inconvienience as us. Ranting sorry...
