Just had a random thought on a new skill/market for rangers. Rangers should be able to take blood samples from creatures we come across in the wild to sell to bio-engineers, who can then sample the dna from it. It gives the ranger something to harvest and sell that for once scouts cant do aswell, and means that bio-engineers have an option of being purely 'lab scientests' who contract rangers to get samples of certain creatures for them. Thoughts? Suggestions? Has this idea been looked at before?

Interesting Idea. I'm for anything that makes Rangers A) More Important to the Community B) More of a crafting profession C) $$$

BEs are enough of a scout to mask and get their own samples. Though it is funny watching them try and fight critters, as most are sissies. We could do this, but I hear the BEs crying already, this trespasses on their domain.
Frankly, I make money on these guys by selling them grindable meat and hides. They buy anything, even crap, for 5 cpu.

I we could get blood from monkies we would be uber. I would say, however, that since we have no medic prereq, we wouldn't necessarily know how to draw blood from a creature. I know we could cut open a vein or something, but that would tend to contaminate the sample.

I like this idea ALOT, but lets add to it. Make it that hte BE have to give you a Sampling tool (something new the dev woudl have to make) I think this would be a great Idea. Just the other day My Apprentic and I were hire to track some Spider for this guys to get DNA. and i needed Insect meat, and well by the time this guy was done the whole nest was dead and gone. IF they where to be able to hire us we could get a doulbe bonus. Get blood for BE and be able to get the resource from the Dead creature.

Actually JB I dont think BEs would mind so much. My significant other was a BE for a long time and when the BE changes went live there was a lot of moaning and groaning that they would have to become Rangers in order to get good samples. Of course this was a long time ago, the thought process might have changed.
It was even longer ago that I mastered scout (right before amask scent became unbreakable for all those months but gave no xp), but I think you don't get a super noticable difference in your ability to hide from high level creatures until Master. And very few BEs want to master scout when they could master CH, Chef, Tailor or Doctor instead. But again, mask scent has changed so much since then that this may no longer be the case either!

If you look closely enough at my Rangers' fingernails, im sure you will find blood from every critter in the galaxy..even imperial blood....
This seems to me like a similar "milking" issue..it would be neat, but I wouldnt really use it in game play

I think I might actually enjoy this. I have considered picking up BE sampling just to have a go at it (it's no different than walking up to that rancor and /petting it). This would let me keep my combat skills and still give me an actual use for randomly poking high level creatures. But I do see some concerns for the BE here. It might be worth asking an ingame BE what they think (anyone know any? My BE friend dropped BE before all the new changes so I'm not sure he's the best guy to ask
). As it is, the BE would still have to sample the blood (maybe make it slightly lower quality than taking it directly?) to make anything useful but it would keep them from having to go to Dath and clone 10 times to make nice pets.

I don't see why the BEs would complain, it doesn't devalue their skill at all. They will still be the only profession with any use for the blood samples it just means that if they don't want to master scout or combat skills they don't have too, they can just buy blood samples off a ranger.

I think its an excellent idea, I personally am a MBE and, like JB puts it, a sissie. I basically carry a T21 around to show that I can shoot it. Sometimes I enjoy traveling and running into creatures and sampling their DNA, but for the most part its hell when you're looking for specific samples. WhenI'm not in adventure planets such as Endor, Dathomir and Dantooine to get a nice powerful DNA means I'll spend a lot of time looking for the right creatures. And whenIam in these planets I find myself at least half of the time either staring at the sky or watching my incap timer go down only to wait to get slain before it runs out or get slain as soon as i get up and try to run. Some would say that I should get more fighting skills but quite frankly I'm not interested in being an all powerful fighter, that's not my role in the GCW, I am a genetist, and I try to make badass creatures for the fighter that's inclined in using them for combat. SO... i guess my point is that if I can pay for someone to do the dirty work for me that would rock, for a decent price of course. And it would definately bring another meaning to the Ranger profession.

Hmm, would you be willing to post this idea on the BE forum? As it really would have to be handled by them. Whatever ends up happening, it's likely a Ranger is going to end up doing the sampling (camo and fast prone crawling will really help get them). Just make sure a non-BE can use them

Heh. Somehow, I've got this feeling that the BE community isn't going to be immensely keen on the Rangers getting any love..
Call it intuition, call it memory of a certain (ill-fated) proposition they brought before us, call it what you will.
