Thread: Blood samples

Heh. Somehow, I've got this feeling that the BE community isn't going to be immensely keen on the Rangers getting any love..
Call it intuition, call it memory of a certain (ill-fated) proposition they brought before us, call it what you will.
lol, somewhat true. But that's why I wanted someone from their community to bring it up. And not mention it as being for Rangers. As it is, Rangers are one of the few professions that would bother using it anyway

It doesn't have to be a Ranger skill. It is meant to be something to keep the BEs from having to go out and sample stuff in the field. They would craft a kit that is used to collect blood from creatures. They then sell (or give) this kit to others so that they can get DNA from big creatures without having to go find those big creatures themselves. It would sort of be like the creature storage trap but without the risk of someone releasing a few rancors in Coronet(I'd still love to be able to do that, though--can you imagine the chaos
). That Rangers are one of the few professions that is likely to make use of it is another matter. Overall, I get the feeling it will never happen. But it would be nice.

I agree with Calc on this one - definately not a ranger skill as I see it. If anything we should be given more skills to help bioengineers in this taskrather than taking the task out of thier hands.
Personally I'd like to see a system where bioenginneers give us dna samples to help us track certain creatures better and fight, trap and harvest them more efficently.

In purely game terms, to give us a market that isn't already cornered by scouts with combat classes. In 'world' terms, scientests often employ local trackers to help them find certain animals for them. Often the scientest tags along, sometimes they dont and just train the tracker enough so they can collect data for them. This idea would be similar to that,i like the ideaof a bio-engineer crafted sample kit thatrangerscan use to collect bloodsamples for the bio-engineer.Started a thread onthe bio-engineer forums and this seems to be the way the bio-engineerswould want it.

I'm a Wayfarer,Hunt Master and MBE, and while I can sample with the best of em, and I like that I can thoroughly examine creatures I haven't yet seen, I'll be darned if I can get the meat I need for other things, because my weapon skill must necessarily be too low to hunt effectively. Yeah, that fast crawl speed is expensive in skill points and maybe I should drop wayfarer, but with the new maskscent nerf my fast crawl has been a real advantage for sampling muties.
I think your idea is pretty good, and I don't see a major downside to it. Rangers are in dire need of some functionality. I also wish that an MBE could see the animals information like a master ranger can, so I could drop hunt master as the harvesting bonus is useless without good weapon skill.
To prevent the best DNA from becoming too easily obtained, I think that the ranger must use a DNA sampling kit crafted by BE's that somehow transfers the skill of the BE who made it. There are two advantages to this. I think that kind of two way trade would help prevent rangers from over-speculating, and flooding the market with mutant rancor dna, making it the cheapest dna available. I'm thinking that if cooperation was required this way, most of the sampling would occur when a ranger already has a customer wanting specific dna. Also, the resources required to make the kit can be adjusted to compensate for the efficiency gained by this kind of specialization.
