Hmmm. I've been pronouncing it Cash-Ike. The long ooo sound does sound more like something a wookiee can pronounce though.
That would make my name Pakry-shook. Or if all Whys are Ohs then Pak-ro-shook. Er. Odd. Sounds kinda like an appliance.
Hmm...the difference is due to regional dialects on the wookie home world: all those 'yyyk's are pronounced as 'eeek' on the southern continent (being the more refined, cultured, but somewhat more effeminate wookies), and as 'oook' on the northern lands.
Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

According to Star Wars Homing Beacon, the planet Kashyyyk is pronounced ka-shook. Hmmm....I have always called it cash-ick.
yeh, the person who came up with that pronunciation was trying to find some justification for the planet being named "Kazzook" in the Holiday Special... that was the first time anybody said the name of the wookiee planet (other than "wookiee planet C," also from that infamous waste-of-time), but as far as i know it wasn't spelled "Kashyyyk" back then (in the script)...
"Kashyyyk" came along many years later, and probably has no connection to "Kazzook" in any way... the only thing that binds them is someone's sick fantasy that the HolidaySpecial is part of this giant, unbroken universe where thereare no continuity errors and anything uttered once must be taken as fact... even if people who uttered it were only connected to Star Wars in that they wrote a TV Special that was based on the largest money-maker that year... this was only a year after Star Wars (two years before george got Empire Strikes Back out), there weren't continuity experts then, there was no need for them... this was supposed to be just a harmless little show about love, friendship, and merchandising... and now somebody's gonna tell me how to pronounce "Kashyyyk" cause of it?!...
Kah-shick, forever!
although i did once have "Born on Wookiee Planet C of the Kazzook system" in my bio for a while... nobody got it...that's probably a good thing though, it was a really bad program... but i guess, i do enjoy life-day.. so at least one good thing came from it... ... ... did i mention Jefferson Starship is in it?...
(you probably thought nobody would go postal on this topic, eh calc?... WRONG!)

Okay, I can handle regional dialects, yep, makes sense. But effeminate wookiee? Oh dear no...

They are not widely known, because anyone even suggesting their existence tend to have a drastically shortened life expectancy and/or missing limbs. I am taking a big risk here so just be grateful. *looks behind before disappearing into the shadows*
