Thread: Camo Kit/Masked Scent Differences?

My understanding is the Masked scent works only against non-humanoids and Camo Kit works against both non-humanoid and humanoid but not as well as MS.

Can anyone help clarify?

Conceal is supposed to work better then Mask Scent, and Conceal works on Creature and NPC mobs (MS only creature). Mask Scent is free, requires nothing to use and is personal only. Conceal requires a specific camo kit (available for use dependant on skill level) and can be applied to PC's.

I have 100 camo and what i notice so far /conceal (with camo pack) doesnt work all that well, In fact it works about as well as my /maskscent..... I'm disappointed in it so far hopfully they fix some of the problems with it.

I will say this, when i conceal a friend it works great...

tested this on endor

Another problem with /conceal is that /maskscent really works just fine.

If that is true, not using it at all is even better.

Mask Scent is horrible. I does not work fine at all!!

It used to work just fine, but after the changes they made to MS this past week, it is just horrible. I am a Ranger and a Master Scout and I get detected even by level 7 creatures with mask scent on.

Just horrible!!!

To be honest, both mask scent and conceal are borken in my opinion now. At MR level there is no way either should break from kreetles no matter how many there are. But in contrast if it breaks from kreetles why does it work so well against grauls? Also, has anyone noticed that when it does break, sometimes the aggro'd mob will teleport right to your location and start attacking, even if it was at the edge of your radar. This has happened on several occasions.

I would gladly give up the xp for a mask scent that works as well as it did before the patch!

Before the patch it was broken in the sense that it didn't break ever for a ranger. I guess it depends on what you expect from it. I usually try to stay away from aggro spawns if I'm running, and it seems that as long as you don't push it too much it rarely breaks. I know it's working because I do get the xp. It seems that animals can see alot farther now, so that slipping between two spawns unnoticed almost requires maskscent, and running right through a spawn doesn't work at all.

Here's how I think it works, I could be wrong. There seems to be asensitivity circle around each animal that is checked on some time interval. Besides the modifiers of prone, running etc. it seems that the closer you are to the center of this circle when the interval fires off, the more chance of detection there is. So if you are running right past an animal, the chance is high that you will have penetrated more deeply into the circle when the interval fires. Once the check is made and you are not detected, that animal seems to ignore you completely for a few moments, but when the checking starts again and you are standing next to the animal, you are almost guaranteed to be noticed, since you're near the center of the circle.

I expect it not to statisticly increase the likelyhood that a creature will attack you from not using it.

Actually, I remember from the notes for ranger and scout, that if your mask scent breaks the mob that broke it has a chance to aggro you, but it said nothing of teleporting them to your location .

I have yet to find a humanoid that doesn't see right through my camouflage. I'm a master ranger, making fully experimented (only affects number of uses anyhow) kits. My camouflage stays up, but humanoids invariably attack. Any NPC that is agressive, faction points or not, just as without the kit. It behaves exactly like mask scent, and appears at master to have the same % chance as mask scent (which we are all now masters of). In other words, from what I can determine, camouflage is a very expensive, cumbersome ability that gives a longer duration mask scent which can be applied to other players.

I've found it about as useful as area track. :/

Well, I've had very mixed experiences with both maskscent and conceal recently. I am a Bothan Wayfarer (100 maskscent, 95 camo). On Dantooine, I ran out to the rebel base with 2 other people from the mining outpost (about 6000m or so). Maskscent dropped for me about 4 times, drawing an aggro twice. On the way back I was alone and bored. I set myself to autorunand arrived without a scratch. Overall, not too bad. I was able to assemble camo kits for Corellia (and what a pain that was!!). I was an overt rebel at the time and was able to wander into camps of imps without any trouble. That was fun. But then a group of thugs attacked me without breaking the camo. No creatures broke the camo (I was wandering for about an hour). Overall, quite nice but seems to have a few bugs still.
