Thread: What's in a name (OT again...I am a pain)
My little name there on the left has a bit of a story to it. It comes from the game Descent 3(a game series of which I was quite the fanatic back in the day). Descent 1 was, in fact, my first ever active online gaming experience by using Kali(1st generation server browser program that converted ipx to TCP/IP), well that Doom2, and Duke3D
. I had used a variety of names prior to Descent 3 online, usually changing around once per year or so, then this game hit and through an odd series of conversations with my roomate at the time, SolrFlare was the result.
Why the "leet" mis-spelling? Its just because I couldn't use any more letters than that for my name
lol. Anyway, I had a 15 minutes of fame moment with that game, and was an active member of that community. The name just ended up sticking and I've used it ever since.
My in game name Solarius is just a second generation reworking of my usual online handle into more of a real name. I was actually Solarus in beta but someone got Solarus about 5 minutes before I did when the game went live
So, Solarius I became and have been ever since.
Oh for the love of pete.... freaking math majors and formulas --- formuli---- ahhhhhhhhhh
My last name is long and Italian, try having a Korean say it - so during my first tour I became Sergeant Mat. Then there were actually two SGTs Mat... so I went with my nickname of JB.... hence JBMat
Characters Name - if you know it, and not many do - first name misspelled, part of last name
JB
The system picked mine
I tried the the fomula and got Chlfe Idsan (yuck) I think I'll stick with Ebe

I had an epiphany and didn't want to hijack any threads. I just got Th'Gils' name and wanted to ask if he was from Colorado by any chance. Plus I thought that guessing our names meanings (if there is one) would be a great way to ralx a bit
.
Calc, are you from Colorado too? I'm in Denver (technically I live in Lakewood, work in Golden, but you get the idea)
Edit: Doh, off-topic in an OT thread!
My name comes from the days of Half-Life team deathmatch when a bunch of us chose names of local companies as our monikers. We had Sun Microsystems, Red Hat, and Silicon Graphics. When TFC (Team Fortress Classic) came out, we started a new clan, [dhcp]. Everyone else changed their name, but I kept Silicon, because I liked the ring. Also, no one else was using it as far as I could tell. I didn't want to be another "SniperJoe" or "LeetDood" or what have you.

Mine is far less simple than Silicon's unfortunately (which is a great name btw, very Sci-Fi for some reason). My daughter came home with this formula for making your own "Star Wars" name after being on the internet at a friends house. She knew I had pre-ordered Galaxies and was insistent that I use "her formula".
Alas, I had already invested way too much time into Oppma when I decided I wanted to change the name, and soooooo , here I am. lol![]()
