Thread: If you are leaving/unhappy...
- the abilities attained were not compensatory for the skill points used, usually surfacing as:
- combat professions out-harvested them
- they never used traps
- they never needed camps
- /conceal didn't "do it" for them
- they lacked combat capability, either defensive or offensive
- they served no purpose in the GCW or in PvP
many of us want to someday return to the ranger profession, if any of these issues are ever remedied... we consider ourselves rangers at heart, and hate to go...
i know this isn't as personal as your own exit thread, but hopefully compiling them here will have some positive affect on the ranger profession...
feel free to stick around and post... and may i be the first to quote Calculus, "Good hunting to you."

I left Ranger because of the uselessness of camps. The last time I remembered using one was pulling out a HTFB at the edge of some water to get to a kimo so our group could havest. Too far away otherwise.
Never threw another trap after finishing up trapping. Just not that useful. Perhaps thats my problem for ignoring the uses of them but why throw a trap when my rifle can do the same stateswith tremendous damage.
The piddling 30% havesting bonus over Master Scout just isnt worth 14 points and with AreaTrack as useless/buggy as it is. The only thing I could ever do useful was find my guildsmen in the area. The rest....
I did enjoy camo for the rare instances it worked against npc's and never went to Moenia without camo'ing up first. Those dang thugs hold a grudge...
The skill points invested just doesnt validate the usefulness of the profession.I have picked up Master Medic for my healing needs and a wee bit of Creature Handler for kicks. MIght pick up some Master Doc for self buffing eventually. When Ranger is beefed up with a good harvesting bonus and areatrack being useful along with a Ranger being able to actually spawn lairs like a mission terminal less the payout. I enjoy the high level camps but they are just glitter on an empty profession.
Reasons I dropped Ranger:
Near uselessness of traps. The HAM cost vs trap affects on the target made using them more of an encumberance on me than the creature.
As a melee focused character /conceal is useless.
I could put the points in the meditation line of TKA and never have a reason to pull out a camp ever again.
Area track is useless unless you stick to highly trafficed areas/planets. Should at least trigger a creature spawn out to the 500m range like you had walked into the area.
No use in the GCW.
As a melee focused character terrain negotiation mods added no benefit past Master Scout.
Creature harvesting mods add little benefit vs skill point cost past Master Scout or even creature harvesting 4 and definitely not worth the cost now that harvesting droids are in that out harvest Master Rangers.
I leaved about 5 months ago because:
- Traps were useles against big creatures... (kimo, rancor, krayt) ...and I didn't need to use traps against smaller creatures
- Camps looks cool but that's about it
- I never used a camo kit because mask scent was doing just fine
I must say that I miss tracking players but that's about it. Ranger was mostly RP for me at first but with so many not really useful skills I thought I could find another way to RP.

most of the rangers who leave do so because:
- the abilities attained were not compensatory for the skill points used, usually surfacing as:

I thought that I could continue to be happy with my current build but after finishing up a long week of resourcing I have come to the conclusion that Ranger is one of the most gimped classes out there. I do/did enjoy being one of the few Masters Rangers on my server though there were very little benefits. Also, I miss PvP very much though in the current condition of the game I must do something I most despise; I must dabble my professions so that I may be able to compete in game.
As of this past Sunday I retired my master ranger profession though I still hang on to the tracking line as this will be the last thing I drop from ranger. After hearing all the Bounty Hunters whine about dumping 77 skill points into scouting and they get nothing from it we truly robbed of any viability in game from being master ranger.
Harvesting This should be one of our main lights of Ranger yet we're limited in how much we can harvest. Also, it seems that when something good does spawn I must kill hoards of chubas to get what I need but no chance of pulling more than 14 units per kill. Customers love to buy in large stacks and yet it will take countless hours of harvesting to gain the amounts they want. Over the past week I had the chance to run three accounts all with various skills in scouting. Much to my displeasure I've found that master rangers only pull around 10% more organic than others. For example:
Peko Peko - harvest hide
- Master Ranger pulls 32 units of hide
- Master Scout pulls 27 units of hide
- Scout 4/0/4/0 pulls 23 units of hide
This continues on and will scale depending on creature and item harvested. For some creatures it's understandable to pull only 4 units of hide or meat from them but when you kill a 3 ton creature (Huf Dun for example) you should pull more than 42 units of meat from the creature. To pull 50k of hide took well over20 hours of missions and wondering around Naboo for this stuff. If I would have used just my Master Ranger it would have taken well into 120 hours. (at some point you would expect to go insane so you need recoup time
)
Camps The high tech field base camps are about the best type of camp to have in game but why in the hell can I not leave them for more than 3 minutes? Why do I lose the camp if somebody drags a creature into the camp and my player automatically attacks the creature? Why can these camps heal battle fatigue when an entertainer is there in your group? Why do we not have the ability to set up these camps and use them as bases to run missions from? Why is it the only real benefit from these camps is to impress players?
Traps Traps are ok and will do fine in delaying your prey but the low level scout traps seem to be more effective and do more to slow or delay your kill. Darts are about the best ones to use on rushing agros though in the ranger class all we can do is drag more agros to us. That's another thing; before I dropped most of my ranger skills all the agros would target me even without me doing "rescue player". Sure it's not too bad but when you're helping players level and all the agros go to attack you it's just really annoying.
Wayfaring This line has such the potential to be cool and fun but somehow it's completely a waste of energy and time. Most NPCs and creatures will eventually break your camo an AT-STs will break them as soon as you're in range of them even if you're an overt Imperial. Most high level creatures will break conceal kits faster than masked scent and not all creatures are affected by our kits. At Master Ranger as the description says we're master of the outdoors and have been many places and fought many creatures. We should be able to conceal ourselves from pretty much every NPC and creature in game when you are Master Ranger.
Benefits At master ranger I get benefits for harvesting, creature to hit (a measly +25) and melee and ranged defenses. Sure this sounds fine but our mask scent breaks constantly, our terrain negotiation only works on inclines greater than 60 degrees and our burst run is about the only thing that seems to work for its duration. We harvest only 10% more than master scout and 15 - 20 % more than novice scout. At +25 for creature-to-hit bonus I'm better off using area attacks as this +25 doesn't account for my experience in the wild and knowledge of creatures. At Master Ranger we should have +75 - +100 creature-to-hit as we have studied these things in depth. We've faced all the creatures out there and should know their strengths and weaknesses.
One other gripes, we suck at fishing. This is monumental to being an outdoors man and it's obvious that the devs have never fished nor met any outdoors people. When living in the wild you must know what you can live off of and how to capture/kill your prey. Why we cannot fish better than n00b players is well beyond my comprehension. Also fishing is about the only part of the game that they've seemed to put any type of though into.
I apologize if it sounds like I'm ranting but I really like this class though I cannot compete in PvP with it. The benefits I get from master ranger are only minimal to that of a master scout. Also, I'm about to become the uber player we all despise but I really miss PvP and for me to compete I must dabble. I will come back to master ranger again after the devs figure out that defense templating and god armor are killing the game but until then I wish those who are in this class the best of luck and tip my hats to those who keep with this borked profession.
