Thread: If you are leaving/unhappy...
The Ranger profession has quite some issues, none of those were the reason to drop it, the one and only reason was the ressource-system that "forces" suppliers of huntables to regularly fight stuff that drops dead in two shots without using specials :/.
As such I doubt I'll make a comeback to Ranger any time soon, Rangers might get what they ask for, the quite big percentage of unchallenging creatures as specific targets (see for example avian meat, there is actually only one quite 'rare' creature that gives avian meat that is somewhat 'challenging' - the peko peko albatross - and even this is not really a 'challenge' to solo if food to prevent getting kd'ed by the area combo is used, same for wooly hide and those are without doubt the two types of huntables asked for most).
Not leaving just yet, but sadly, even thought I said I would never leave ranger, I'm seriously considering it.
Why?
1. The profession is working OK, but doesn't do anything for us really that is truely, fun, unique, or useful, or helpful in any part of the game. I don't use ranger traps, and hardly use scout ones at my level. Dont use camps anymore, they have ZERO benefit. Hardly ever use track anymore, and only use camo kits for others, not me, on dath, dant, and Yavin. And thats if I have the time to get the resources before taking a group out hunting. The SP cost for it, is soooo not worth it anymore for me.
2. I want to try some other combat professions, and I have no extra points. In order to keep a decent level of combat while training up a new combat prof, I need to drop something. So I might drop ranger, and maybe some of scout, to train up a new combat prof.
I'm not saying I will never be ranger again. I still think it would be a totally cool and fun profession, that is useful in both PvE and even GCW stuff. But until then I might take some time off. I will try to hold out until publish 11 where they say they are doing the GCW revamp. In which they say every prof will have some roll in it. If some good cool changes don't at least "start" to take place in ranger, I'm out of here.
Maybe I'll be back when they stop excluding rangers from this like their 'idea' has previously.
JustGwrote in his most recent State of the Game letter:
Our vision for the GCW requires that we find ways to involve virtually everyone in the ongoing war. We need to take the time to design the GCW revamp so that it can be impacted by all types of players, from a Master Commando to a peaceful Artisan.
I have enjoyed Ranger every day that I have played. The first "grown-up" book I ever read was the Fellowship of the Ring. My secret ambition since that time was always Ranger. Granted star wars Rangers are COMPLETELY different. But even on days when I did nothing in the least Ranger-like, just running my long-legged wookiee around Radiant with the Master Ranger title proudly displayed made me feel happy and relaxed. I could easily imagine the challenges and learning Paks must have gone through to be considered a Master Ranger. Experiences that, after 200+ years of Rangering, gave her a peacful and accepting view on life and the galaxy. As a Master Paks is quiet (mostly), confident, and balanced. She is, in fact, exactly like most of the Rangers I have met both on the forums and running around Radiant. Bravo to you all!
