Thread: An idea for Rangers Only A ghillie suit

Totally out of the blue, this hit me --- ok, I was reading forums and got an idea, which for me is a novel experience ---

I want to see Rangers get one piece of equipment that no one else can use - a Ghillie Suit. What's that you say? Watch the History Channel, it's a suit that basically makes you look like a bush. Adaptable for any terrain, it breaks up your form and totally camoflages you.

I am thinking that at a pre-determined level, not master, you gain the ability to go out and gather X amount of hides, have to forage for certain items, and then are able to assemble your Ghillie suit.

Only Rangers can use it, a'la the BH lightning cannon and the Commando stuff. The skills you have outside the Ranger class may affect how well you put the suit together, we are supposed to be well rounded aren't we??

Once we assemble it, we could then don the Ghillie suit and go hunt stuff virtually 100% camo'ed. Off the radar, use maskscent and poof, you are gone. Of course, run like a chicken and people willpoint and ask, why is that bush running? Crawl would work nicely. Anddon't be doing the bush act in the middle of town either, it has to be in the wild. Of course this would work nice on the recon missions, and as part of a group on a raid in the wilds, and in hunting. And throw in a chance per shot that the animals could "find" us after we engage. NPCs get a higher chance, PCs are on their own,

to summarize for the Devs - who I can only feel sorry for at this point -

1. Ranger specific. No one else can use it with any amount of skill.

2. Must be assembled for items we have to gather.

3. Per shot chances at this camo breaking after engagement.

What do y'all think guys and girls?

I think it would be nice to have something of our own in terms of weapons, armor and/or clothing. THe ghillie suit makes sense. Good idea.

It would also be nice to get a bonus on first shot while in this suit to use with either mindhot, headshot or healthshot.

Beautiful idea and fit's perfectly within what we all expect a Ranger to be .

I love the idea of blending right in , vanishing off the radar and not being detectable by friend or foe . Would finally give us a purpose and an identity other than " a really motivated scout " .

We should add this to the list of great ideas that we have compiled to this point , Mineras . I know we have a focus on fixing broken things right now ... when this time has passed we will need someone to pull out " The Golden List " . This would be our list of solid gold ideas like this one , stationary traps for fishing and game , tracking , hunting blinds and shuttle call-ins and the list goes on and on ....

Hey Mineras you ARE keeping this list right ??

Lol I was going to compile one myself but I assumed you had been keeping one up to date simply because you do everything else so well . If you haven't been please let me know I would be happy to take this task on for you , would be a pleasure to compile all the good ideas that have come and gone on this forum into one big shiny Golden List .

Peace all and good hunting

Rifleman want the suit too, it's in one of our reports .

It is a nice idea, although I doubt we'd ever see it happenm simply because of technical issues.

I think it would be a great idea. The only problem is with implementation.

The reason everyone in the game has a radar is to disrupt people using packet sniffing softwear from being able to detect players that are concealed therefore premeptively giving everyone the same advantage (at least this is the way it was discribed to me).

For some reason, after adding this radar, they removed/axed any abilities to conceal yourself from other players, making the radar "useless" in that regard.

The only way I could see implementing this Ghillie suit and having it work vs player radar, is to have the suit camoflage you as a static item, a white square (like a harvester or other targetable items). Maybe by donning the suit you become unable to move (ala: Cover ability), essentially making you a static item and being able to fool the radar and packet sniffing softwear alike.

I hope that made sense... I just got off work and I'm pretty beat.

Personally, I would appreciate a /conceal ability that worked against players, packet sniffers or not. Not everyone is going to go out and use one of these programs, since I am pretty sure they are considered taboo by Sony. I would rather take my chances than Not have the ability at all!

I like the idea of the suit for camo purposes but I would be careful trying to add some kind of ranged combat bonus to it (at least if it were Ranger only). We have to be careful not to peg the Ranger as a ranged profession. There are melee Rangers too and to assume that all Rangers use rifles is bad.

Agreed. Ranger is not necessarily "Range"-r. I like the ghillie suit idea.

On another note, I always thought it would really cool if we could design our own camps. Perhaps we could adjust the dimentions and color schemes, add or remove different types of furniture and crafting stations and place banners and possibly faction items. This could all be done through the craftion tool interface, and could increase in complexity as the Ranger increased in level. What do you think?

About the packet sniffing issue, many other games have implemented a "stealth" ability. Most do it by not even sending your data to the client until you are detected, hence no ability to packet sniff for your location.

Also, 2 hand swordsman here, nothing I would like to see more than to pop out of nowhere on one of those **edit** bh's with knockdown shot and land a mind bleed. No range bonuses, but maybe a "suprise" bonus to hit when coming out of camo or something.

Well Tsion already mentioned my only concern- that asa melee ranger (TKA in my case), creatures might (and probably should) notice foliage walking up to them to bonk them on the head. However --- and I just thought of this, so it could be a bad idea or already mentioned elsewhere --- butcoupling the ghillie suit with various creature calls to lure them to you (if you want - which I would in my case) would add a lot to the 'hunting' feel of the game. Nothing rediculous, but targeting a creature and then having a call range of 30-40m - and if successful the creature comes over to take a look at my vibro knucklers. And heck, the call skill could be distributed up a skill branch and allow you to call higher level creatures as you progress.

Most games that implement a stealth ability decrease movement speed while it is in use. The speed would increase as you mastered to ability but still not be close to normal movement speed. So a bush would not run up to a creature or person but move slowly to try and be imperceivable.

yes, great minds do think alike because I posted this idea a while back also (though my spelling of ghillie was way off). No idea how many other people did becuase I'd rather be in-game than here 8)
