Thread: Totally against my personal idea of what a Ranger should be
I don't complain much on these boards, but I'm furious with the fact taht we can no longer keep ourselves concealed from view while attacking...
I thought the whole idea of being a ranger was to use teh environment to your advantage in order to get the jump on your enemies.
Why shouldn't we beable to keep ourselves hidden for a while until the NPC animal/character finally figures out where we are? I mean it takes alot of skill points to get up to this level, and leaves us with just a few to maybe master a weapon profession. and i still feel that rangers aren't nearly as deadly in the wild as they should be.
For example....A man gets lost in the wild...he's attacked by animals. a stranger bursts out of the woods, slays the animals and saves them man's life...the stranger quickly dissapears...the man returns home with stories of a "ghost" in the woods that saved his life...that ghost is my idea of a ranger...

what is a ranger?
1. a wanderer; a rover.
a ranger should be able to usethe environment to his advantage. disappearing totally from sight from npc's and creatures. he should be able to stalk a creature and kill it with one slice of his knife. unseen in the wild, the ranger should be the ultimate predator. the animalswatch as their brothers fall, but cannotattack something they cannot see.after a successful kill, the ranger skins the animals hide with perfection, producing some of the best hide known in the galaxy.

Ummm... during the bit where "a stranger bursts out of the woords, slays the animals and saves the man's life"... he's not concealed, is he?
I mean, he is before obviously and he is after he "quickly disappears" - but it's that whole bursting out of the woods thing that doesn't quite dovetail with your premise. ![]()
**edit**?You can not be invisible to animals, not completely. If you take out one of the herd generally the herd notices. Its just not realistic. Animals "not being able to take out something they can't see"? Nah, I don't think so, sorry.

Sounds like more EQ bleedover to me. We are not gonna be invisible, ever never ever, no one is.
Conceal works well right now. We can walk up to NPCs, give em wet willies, and they don't notice us unless we attack em. Fun to do. Try it.
You want invisible, go see the speech impaired bald dude down in the swamp, he has a ring for ya.
JB
yes i'm not saying being totally invisable (hence the bursting out of the woods part) but we at least need to be ablet o get a better advantage over creatures than we are right now during combat.
We're supposed to "konw how to place a shot to take a creature down" and it seems to me that it still takes far more of those shots than should be needed
EQ bleed over JB? It was always that way in EQ you casted a spell while invisible it dropped. It wasnt that way with conceal/maskscent and now it is. It changed people need to get use to it. I am whining about it but I will adjust. Your bashing people here and in your other post isnt going to help. Let us whine a little, its a big change with the social aspect of animals and the conceal/maskscent dropping. We were not warned it just happened. It surprised me as I am sure many others when they went out to their favorite hunting spot poped off a shot and got the whole herd.
Again let us adjust and whine a little. Please stop with the bashing and flaming.

"Who was that masked man?"
"I don't know but he left this." :::Holding silver bullet in hand:::
Sorry couldn't resist.
thank you askee...that's what i'm talking about. every class or profession in this game has somethign that makes that character better than others in certain situations. Now it seems like us rangers are hunting the same way everyone else does. it should really be much easier for us to kill animals than it is for others.
Bounty Hunters and Commandos can mess up pretty much anything, so most NPCs are pretty easy to solo. but Animals should be jsut as easy for a Ranger to solo. espicially if people want animal resources

We have skills that make us better than others in certain situations. Go have a bounty hunter or smuggler or commando track a krayt dragon. Have a Combat Medic throw up a HTFB for healing everyone's wounds. The skills are there - you just have to USE THEM.
I can solo animals all day long - white, yellow, low reds. It's all the same. P-Darts, Glow Juice, Bleed, Warning Shot, Suppressive Fire... I'm a Master Ranger/Pistoleer. I lead a PA of Rangers. I have YET to hear any of my guys complain about not being able to kill an animal. We MAUL animals and we haul in massive quantities of resources. I have no idea what you're complaining about.
Ranger can a tweak here or there - but the profession is about as far from broken as any in this game, and the developers have repeatedly shown that they're willing to make improvements to this profession. We have had GREAT correspondents - Mineras at the very beginning was crucial to making this profession what it is today and Nraas is doing a fantastic job.
We have so very little to "whine" about. It's up to you whether you see the proverbial glass as "half empty" or "half full". To me, it's nearly brimming over the top.
