Thread: Totally against my personal idea of what a Ranger should be

That sentence should have read "Rangers can use a tweak or two.."

Admittedly, I'm a melee ranger (read: fool). My Ranger skills aren't helping me to maul animals--i'm nearly useless against a Krayt or other very-high-level creature. I shouldn't bring my survival knife to a gun fight, I guess; but you'd thinkyou SHOULD bring your Ranger to a hunt.
I think the complaints are that our skills aren't all that spectacular for an elite class. I love areatrack, I harvest more than others, and...., uh....well, that's it. Camping will improve someday...but how often do you need to camp? (me--almost never.) Conceal /crawl isn't all that useful for 14 skill points, is it? So it shouldn't be much of a surprise that people want invisibility from animals, or some REAL advantage in attacking animals that a non-Ranger Pistoleer wouldn't have. At the moment, I'd say a Ranger with Tracking 4 is as useful as a Master Ranger.
For someone like me that didn't choose the combat path that is best at animal killing; I'm somewhat limited as to what I can kill. My Ranger skills don't really improve on that ability for me. So am I required to switch to Pistoleer to be an effective animal killer? Wait a sec...isn't Rifleman supposed to be the complimentary class for hunting? (in caseyou're planning to use the "knife to a gun fight" argument. Doesn't seem that a pistol should be the ideal hunting weapon.) Maybe I should get good with a flamethrower or grenade launcher.
The Ranger class isn't broken...it's just kinda empty.
P-Darts are a scout trap. Ranger traps are getting improvements.
Warning Shot and Suppressive Fire are Marksman, NOT pistoleer skills. You want 'em? Get them.
How do I use my Ranger skills? I use tracking CONSTANTLY. When I'm out Krayt Hunting, there's noone who can find Krayts faster than my PA with tracking teams out.
I use camps constantly - HTFB's. They're wonderful and on large hunts, people appreciate the hell out of them.
I see other threads where people are whining about not being able to raise money and am dumbfounded. I have never had problems raising money. I know what resources are in demand and tailor my hunting to get those resources. I know what mobs drop those resources. I can go into an area, track those mobs and harvest more resources faster than just about anyone. I'm sitting on nearly 100k now and that's after buying a new DX2 and two new FWG's and paying for slices on all of the above. I have more money than I need. Do I have 2.8 bazilion credits? Nope. Do I friggin' need it? Nope.
So yeah, I DO use the Ranger Skills I've acquired.
Like I said in another post. I don't suck. I'm not broken, and my skills aren't useless.
If that's how you want to be, I can't help that.
...and if you think Rangers are "empty" now - you shoulda been here two months ago.
Is there room for improvement with the profession? Yes.
Have things been improved and do they continue to be? Yes.
So let's desist with the hyperbole and the histrionics and help N'Raas do his job and let the devs do theirs.
