Just out of curiosity, how is milk gathered currently?

I find milk in debris piles. It is a very rare spawn at the moment. Also I have heard certain NPC's will drop them such as the Dathomir Nightsisters, but I have not yet confirmed that.

I'll tell you a HUGE reason that only Rangers should be able to harvest milk: we need something that is unique over scoults. Honestly, Rangers right now have very few things to sell because so many people can simply harvest resources themselves. If you had to Master the Scout proffession and spent the additional point to become a Ranger, less people would be able to get this ONE resource, which is would allow Rangers to have one thing that only they could harvest adding to their purpose in the economy.

And Scwarz, I find your post utterly rude and out of touch with reality. Your implication that we would ask for bone to be a Ranger-only skill is utterly uneducated, in my humble opinion. If you took the time to read our threads you would notice that we generally don't ask for that much. In fact, I know I make an effort to suggest ideas that don't nerf or devalue others' proffessions. I would say that this is true of most if not all of the people who post here.

I assume that if you are a scout, you do so to collect resources, and certainly not as a role-playing element, since most people who ENJOY scout as a proffession (rather than as an addition to their main proffession) continue on as Rangers. That point aside, can you provide any logic that says that scouts SHOULD be able to milk, or are you yelling at us simply because YOU want the skill. If that is so, I would ask that you grow up a little bit and realize that this isn't going to HURT you. This isn't something you have now, so it wouldn't be taking away any skills that you have.

Instead this would HELP a proffession that is sorely in need of unique skills and abilities. That being said, I would hope that you at least understand why we feel this skill is so neccesary to us. If not, well, we can't please everyone with our opinions, but I would you to note that YOU have not been flamed the way you flamedKharrKhomak. I would hope that if in the future you decide to troll our boards (which I am not opposed to, if the trollers can at least be polite) you endevor to remain respectful to those who have to read your posts.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I kind of think we need to take this idea to the logical conclusion.. Rangers should be the sole source for eggs and milk. If having only one class able to do these things, allow creature handlers to do it as well somewhere within their skill tree (makes sense that a CH would know how to milk a creature).

If you provide it only to the elite professions, it would place a greater premium in choosing either Ranger (or CH) and would provide a source of income that would be unique to the Ranger class, which is sorely needed.

I just read on the Chef and Scout forums about a change to milk harvesting. Apparently, when the new Chef changes go through, Scouts will be able to harvest milk from herbivores. No details as of yet on how to do it, but it's great to know that it's coming. One of my characters is a Master Ranger and my other one is a Bioengineer. The BE is jumping for joy now that he'll finally be able to get a lot more milk in order to make those +taming tissues for CHs. Great news in my opinion!

Great news except for the fact that it should be rangers harvesting the milk and not scouts.

WHY? Just because YOU don't want competition doesn't mean that's the way it should be. What next, only rangers can harvest bone, not scouts? How about hides? Why should milk be any different than anything else harvested?

You simply get MORE as a ranger than a scout, you'll still be able to out harvestthem, don't worry about it.

I agree with Schwarz. The ability to skin a dead animal carcass, or extract meat or bones from one is one thing, but being able to walk up to a wild, LIVING, creature and convincing it to stand still long enough to let you yank on its nipples is something else entirely. You should have to be a ranger, or at least a master scout to be able to pull this feat off.

I just hope they don't let you milk the males. EWWWWW!!!! That is all I will say about that.

Well said Phenix and thank you all,

"I'll tell you a HUGE reason that only Rangers should be able to harvest milk: we need something that is unique over scoults."

I agree, but do you really want milking to be one of those defining traits?

Personally, I would prefer something a little more distinctive to define our profession...

  • But that's just me.
