Thread: Rangers!! When camo kit goes live........
Well, they are going live.
My plans: I'm not going to sell/make any, except for own use and for friends in need.
Or even people who'd like to group and do fun stuff and allow me my role as Ranger/CH.
Don't you think you guys are blowing this "issue" out of proportion? This is simply another money-making opportunity given to rangers, along with resource harvests and tracker-for-hire.
Who cares if everyone can now use them? They can't pull them out of thin air, they have to get them from somewhere...like, oh, rangers! Hello, this is a business opportunity. Do you see master architects getting mad because everyone can use the guild halls they build? Or image designers getting mad because everyone can use the holo-emotes they can produce?
Everyone needs to look at this situation from a rational point of view, but it is troubling that even the ranger correspondent can't see the positive side of this. If rangers should complain about anything, it's the fact that camo kits work like crud. I've personally always used mask scent intstead of these things anyway

Get out of this forum. You haven't the first clue what is to be a Ranger, nor what the profession has gone through. Everything we have submitted to the Dev team per their request, and suggested, has been approved. Then promptly handed out to other professions. We care that anyone now can use them. You don't see them going around and handing out skills from other Elite professions to the entire community do you? Take a looong hike, with no TN, into the wilderness with your new camo kit.

You've got a lot of nerve to make those accusations against me. I AM a ranger, a 0040 ranger to be exact but a ranger nonetheless. I certainly won't argue that the ranger profession isn't borked, because it is true.
Notice how I took the only branch that actually means anything in this profession. I didn't want the ability to make camo kits because they are worse than mask scent, I didn't want the ability to make traps because they don't do squat, and I didn't want the ability to make fancy camps because they are no better than the newbie camps. Despite these issues, everyone complains about the one thing that is perhaps the most insignificant of them all, and probably isn't even an issue to begin with. There is a school of thought called "sorting your priorities" and everyone complaining about the recent change needs to attend that school.

Are we? Read the Camo Issue thread started by Owen and read my pointed out usefullness of Ranger per Tree...

Ehmm.. Do you really thinkI will go hunting pure and soly to get all of you your camo's????
As Ranger I like to hunt for several reasons. I explore when I would like to. Be in the wild whenever I want to. I do not want to hunt, becasue someone orderd 1000 Dathomir Camo Kits.

I do. From an RP point of view: this kills it for me. I'm a Ranger, not an artisan nor a merchant. You want to get to your harvesters? Well hire a ranger to tag along. Ow wait. We don't have enough skills in ourself to even kill creatures... You need more people. Hmm. Hard to find them, in a so called MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER Online Game....
I thought the whole CU was to make the people to become MORE dependant on eachother, note LESS

Now now... Easy boys, both of you...
/whistle innocently
I know Bio didn't mean it like that, but most of us are just plain angry and mad.

If you don't mind me saying thus, but that exact sentence almost proves Bio to be right. The Wayfaring tree WAS usefull before the bugs and THIS change.
As for the rest of the paragraph I can only say this: then why not have a simple MASCK SCENT stimpack, created by SCOUTS to be given out?
a) it works better
b) it cost LESS skill points to get SCOUT 2--- then Ranger x---!!!!!

Maybe that's becuase, ya know - architects are CRAFTERS.
While there are probably two main schools of thought as to what a Ranger's role is in the game, as far as I know, NEITHER one is "crafter". I've generally seen folks split into two major camps - the ultimate wilderness survival hunter, and the tactial combat / stealth ranger type roles. And then there are those of us who see no need to have that be either/or, and embrace building a skill set that allows for and enhancesBOTH "roles" or styls of play(after all, we're spending more SP than any other profession in the game to master our Elite profession)
There is very little positive about yet another skill of Ranger being given away, nerfed, or made useless or obsolete. I don't need and never asked for another souce of income. I started paying attention to what old timers here were saying when I first started, and I make more than I need to just by taking a hunting contract now and then, and doing things intelligently. I think it was JB who said something along the lines of - if you're NOT making money as a scout or ranger, you're doing something wrong. Sorry if I'm not attributing the quote to the right person, and if it WAS JB, I'm sure he said it a bit more... bluntly... but you get the idea.

1. Not everyone is only interested in being the richest person in the game.
2. Ranger is a combat profession, not a crafting profession. All our skills revolve around being outside of cities. Traps and tracking are specifically designed for combat (even if they don't work).
3. Even if I wanted to craft camos for everyone's use. At the current state of the game, I wouldn't sell them. I have a BE alt and I take pride in producing quality tissues and meds (haven't crafted pets in a long time, I might start that up again). How can I justify charging credits to people for camos that can break at a moments notice, and without the ranger application, likely will? That is like sellinga placebo to a dying man. Besides, with the current aggro adjustment, if you don't want to be aggroed, just group with a CL 80 player.
