Thread: Faction Lairs out in the Wilds
[This is a personal inquery, and is not associated with any official business]
So I happened upon a Faction Lair this fine day while hunting in the Talusian wilds...
- I say "cool", and go in andeliminate the troopers for somespiffy faction points.
Now as there are no markers (that I am aware of) to tell if this is simply a Random Spawn or someone's mission, I did not destroy the lair itself...
- Such that if the rightful owner didcome along, the troopers would respawn and everything would be fine.
Later, while I was healing up in a camp nearby, the owner did indeed make an appearance...
- He proceeded to rant and rave, cursing and swearing, about how the mission was his and I must have intentionally stolen it, etc. etc.
Somewhere during his tirade (I wasn't really paying attention to his group by then), the Faction Lair did respawn and he went off and did his thing.
So I ask all you faction aligned players:
- If you were to happen upon a Faction Lair in the wilderness, what are your rules for handling the encounter?
I thought I was doing the guy a favor by leaving the Lair alone... But I still got griped.
- What would have been the respectable thing to do? I am at a loss here.
I've found large groups of them about 8k from known bases and towns.
When they're friendly, I camp them for a minute hoping to find the direction people are coming from and maybe kill someone.
When they aren't friendly camps, KIIIIILLLL!LL!LL!!LLL!L!
Just my opinion.
I usually only hit enemy faction lairs that aren't mine when they spawn on top of me, and the npcs attack. I took out just enough to defend myself one time, and then started to leave. The player that pulled the mission came along and started ranting - I explained what happened and she calmed down. The she said the least I coulda done was to finish off the lair itself, so she could get the credits without running all the way out there. I thought I was doing a favor by not taking ALL of the faction points for the mission (I know some people pull the missions just to get the faction points) - I thought she'd be able to come out and take out the lair with no resistance, and get even easier credits and FP.
I think everyone has their own opinion on this, and no matter what you do, eventually someone is gonna get pissed-off about it. So now, if I can, I just avoid them altogether. If they spawn on top of me, and the npcs go aggro and mob on me, I kill everything, including the lair - heck, I need FP, too.
I go along with NRass. If I am out in the weeds, and I see a target of opportunity, I firstcrank up the radar, then areascan to look for inbound people. If I do not see any, Ikill the troopies and leave the camp for the one who pulled the mission. They spawn pretty quickly if you leave the base, no harm, no foul. If you can't spare the 5 minutes to wait, sucks to be you.
I have had other missions troopers engage me while TEF'd. I take out the troops who are firing on me, self defense 101, shoot back -but will not take out the base or troops not engaging me.
Travel in an area enough and you can tell the missions from the random spawn after a while.

It's a war. Enemy troopers = targets. Kill 'em and leave the lair - if the person wanted all the faction points, they'll get them when it respawns, if not, they've got an easy mark to finish off and get their credits. Can't expect someone else to do all the work right? ![]()

Ah... But I had no idea if it was indeed someone's mission...
- I thought I was pretty far out in the wilderness at the time.
- But apparently there must have been a rebel base with a mission terminalnearby that I did not know about.
I enjoy participating in the GCW...
- And I find itdisturbing to leave the other side standing when a target of opportunity appears.

"I think everyone has their own opinion on this"
Aye, and from the responses in this thread, that is indeed the case. ![]()
If its someones mission the lair will respawn and if its not you can always back track and kill them again. A quick Search for Players in you area might give you an idea of who is around.
Respectable thing to do, How far are you from a town/base? if your 4-5k away. Smile and wave.
When I'm hunting for a particular resource, I'll take specific destroy missions. If someone destroys the creature lair before I get there, I'll gladly take the free mission reward, but I'm still out the resources I might have harvested from that lair. But I chalk it up to bad luck and soldier on. Thems the breaks, and we shouldn't treat faction lairs any differently.

So in your opinion it would be best to remove the lair as well, even if there is a possibility of the toopers respawning by the time the real owner arrives?
Well, the way I see it, the only time I'm doing the "mission terminal" missions formy factionis when I'm grinding, be it for credits, faction points, or whatever. And when I'm grinding time is most important (if I wasn't trying to go up quickly I wouldn't grind)... if I was just playing and had time to wait for mobs to respawn, I'd go to the themepark and do those quests or do the monthly story arc quests or find some other quests to work on - those are certainly much more interesting but tend to have lesser rewards for the time spent.
I know a lot of people prefer you to leave the lair though, so whatever. Ya just can't win when there's so many different people with different playing styles. Eventually you're gonna step on someone's toes. ![]()

I agree...
I know that only too well from my job as Corr.
- There is no way to please everyone all the time.

Where is a Clone Army when you need it?
- A society like that would be pretty easy to please, I would imagine.
