Thread: Faction Lairs out in the Wilds
"IMO, the worst thing you can do is pick off the mobs and leave the lair. If you take out the lair, the person knows and doesn't have to trek all the way out there to sit there and grind it down."
I personally would rather have the lair left then get some notice that my mission was completed, Too many times I've trekked 3k out (reb bases south of keren) only to get 500m from and find out some one else destoryed it. At least if I walked the full distance and there is a lair there I get faction and the reward.
If 1. There is no faction mission area around within a logical distance (ie. A Rebel Camp outside Coronet), I know it's probably not anyone's mission, since there are little to no Imperial mission men in the area. 2. If it's over 3k meters away from the nearest town, it's seen as a random spawn by me because I rarely see missions that go out that far. They're fair game once they're out of normal spawn radius. I try to circle the base, look up and down the region for folks coming or going, but if no one is there, I'll take out the people.
I'll never kill a lair though, not unless it's my mission.
It's as if you were never there. If they still want to gripe, they're just looking to do so and nothing you do will make them happy.
"Walk 150+ meters away from the lair. Tell the other person to do the same and wait until everything disappears off the radar. *poof* The entire thing has respawned and the lair is fully healed."
Aye. I use that tacticwhen I peform faction missions myself.
- That way I can eliminate the troops 3 or 4 times before I need to go back to the terminal and get another mission.

With the way the spawning system seems to be set up, a mission shouldn't spawn until you are only a couple hundred meters from the target. So, if you wait a little bit and /areatrack, it will become somewhat obvious whether anyone actually is planning to do the mission. If anyone shows up on /areatrack, send them a tell and ask if it is theirs. If no one claims it, then destroy the enemy. I know that I have found plenty of faction spawns that seemed random (they spawned and stayed around for quite a while before I ended up destroying them) so I'm guessing that not all bases are missions. And I've been in plenty of situations where people have taken a mission but then decided not to do it (I know I've seen plenty of people leaving their ATST missions alone--those are a real pain to clear but, if the owner isn't going to do it, someone has to try). I believe the main thing to do is to be courteous if the owner shows up. If they get that mad at you, then they probably aren't worth the trouble. It is only a game after all (and /ignore is meant to work quite well). If you apologize and they still shout, then they are not worth worrying about. Just don't act like a griefer and people won't mind too much.

In the past I've just left these things stand because I absolutely hate dealing with PO'd members of my own faction who are angry at me because we're fighting on the same side. Sometimes, though, if I'm out in the middle of nowhere I'll just smash it, lair and all. Above all this is a massively multiplayer ROLEPLAYING game. It doesn't make any sense for me to be running along out in the middle of nowhere and pass up the opportunity to pick off some enemy troops just because it might be "somebody else's mission." If y'all remember the scene from Saving Private Ryan when they overtook the machinegun nest, they didn't have to because it wasn't their mission, but they did the right thing and took it out anyway because it was the enemy and they're ina WAR. In war, a soldier's job is to eliminate enemy soldiers (generally).
IMO, the worst thing you can do is pick off the mobs and leave the lair. If you take out the lair, the person knows and doesn't have to trek all the way out there to sit there and grind it down. The mobs are the juiciest part of the mission - they don't take as long, are more exciting to battle, and drop the loot. There's nothing I hate more than getting to my objective and finding the lair with no mobs, but I really don't mind when someone destroys the mobs AND lair. We're all on the same side here (those of us doing each other's missions anyway).

So in your opinion it would be best to remove the lair as well, even if there is a possibility of the toopers respawning by the time the real owner arrives?
Hmmm...
For example: Big plus-sign shaped fort. Sometimes they're Reb. Sometimes they're Imp. Sometimes these bases will have a destroyable "large Imperial base" building or "small Rebel base" building (or something to that effect) smack in the center of the fort. It will be targetable with the TAB key as you cycle through the potential targets.
If it doesn't have one of those, it's not a spawned mission.
If it DOES have one of these, it belongs to someone's mission.
That I have seen, there are no exceptions to this rule. Faction bases do not spawn in the wild with a destroyable base building. Only mission generated buildings do. And it seems to be true for any style faction ground spawn.
Knowing this, you can let conscience be your guide.
