Profession Revamps:
Author: Owen-Lars
Overview: Ranger 2.0 focuses on an anti-scout aproach to revamping Ranger by focusing on 'Knowledge areas'. The skill onion is not a wish list of everything we have thought of but a core set of skills that have a better chance of getting implemented. The roles and interactions of each tier are highlighted throughout and backed up with an array of skills ranging from pathfinding to intel gathering.

Overview: The outdoorsman was the original profession development proposal focusing around improving our proffession into a true 'outdoorsman' role. Such features contained within this proposal layed the foundation for many of the ideas we throw around today, the true origins of our creative might. Features such as modular camps and traps feature heavily and go into great detail about their implementation.

Overview: The origanal outdoorsman proposal quickly became a collection ideas from our past, it didnt realy fit into the now mature (in a game sense) ranger population. We wanted different things, we didnt want to be limited to creature only combat, we wanted a role outside of this set up and a wide spreading collection of skills that allow us to take up multiple roles and stand on our own feet as a profession. This is where the Outdoorsman 2 came in. Phenix created a masterfull outline and fleshed it out completely from mods to skills to schematics and more. This proposal not only developes on the Outdoorsman idea, its completely revamps the revamp proposal giving it an up to date direction.

Overview: An alternative ranger revamp that brings up very interesting points and skills that push ranger into the tactical unit role. This proposal is a complete 4 tier revamp outline going into great details about the direction it would push ranger and justification for this developement, its also completely fleshes out the 4 ranger tiers with an exciting array of skills and abilities that would change ranger into an extremely attactive profession.
Name: The Recon Unit
Author: Owen-Lars
Overview: Ranger has always lacked identity, lacked a unique role most importantly has never had involvement in the pvp and pvnpc systems. This proposal developes on the stealth desires of the ranger community and builds a profession outline over a foundation of roles we must aim towards. Such roles as hunt leadership, reconnaissance and military trapping feature heavily and revolve around the core direction of the proposal, stealth.
Author: NikkiDial
Overview: A run down of easier implementable changes to the ranger profession concentrating on profession interactions and the benefit of combining those with ranger skills. Not as detailed as the other proposals but equaly inspiring and manages to set down the core direction aims of the thread without layout down massive amounts of info on us.

Overview: A developement of past ranger desires to aim towards a creature orientated role which developes the tracking and pathfinding abilities. This proposal highlights the revamp of not only skills but the set up of complete tiers. Such features within this document are /track which enables us to lead a ground and was the foundation for later track developement i posted.

Discussion of Ranger as a Lawman
The Ranger Proposals are very interesting. I love
them. The one that I am most drawn to is the Tactical Ranger concept because it
follows suit with the way I am developing my own character. I see the
stealth, holograms, enhanced terrain negotiation and rescue abilities as key
elements. I understand there are various applications for Ranger (eg. Big
Game Hunting, reconnaissance to places where other characters would find it
difficult to go to) but the Tactical is definitely more combat oriented.
The way I envision this is much like the old Rangers of the West. Many of them
were Gunslingers and Ranger/Men and Women of the law. In SWG I see them key to
intricate and difficult rescue missions, law enforcement practical applications:
tracking of criminals on the ground and in space. Although on the surface, it
may appear like the role of a BH but it's not. Rangers are hired to protect
towns and cities and hunt dangerous creatures and people that are harmful to the
population. I do understand however they could also be sent on very
sensitive rescue missions into areas unreachable by other characters or perform
harvesting missions into dangerous territory.
Depending on how the Ranger profession is married with
others would determine how they would be titled and utilized.
These could all be very high-paying positions:
Ranger/Pistoleer, Rifleman, TKA or other Combat Variant (Combat Skills):
Lawman/Sheriff, Field Ranger (Man Hunter and Beast Hunter), Military Covert
Scout. These would all be possible because of improved combat skills
paired with camouflage skills, wilderness skills and tracking and hunting
skills. A combat scout could be able to scout territory that
Ranger/Artisan/Combat Skills: Specialized Range
Miner/Surveyor, Base Field Operative, Demolition Expert. These would make it
possible for Master Artisans, Architects and other professions to hire someone
to go into hostile topography to obtain rare and valuable resources.
Ranger/Medic/Combat skills. This combo would
make it possible to pull off difficult rescue missions. They would also
make excellent Field Escorts for high-profile characters.
Of course the Tactical Ranger could be a blend of all of
the above but the way they apply their skill point would determine their strong
points and weaknesses.
Additional thought I had was how Tactical Rangers could be
used are as Bodyguards for Jedi and dignitaries. It's hard to imagine but
think of Nohgri in the Star Wars Books. They were lethal assassins and
excellent body guards. They were really a type of Ranger when you think
about their traits.
In addition, perhaps in future publishes or game
expansions, territory in the map was hidden from view unless explored by a
ranger. Travel in certain areas would be impossible without a ranger in
the group.
Just some thoughts. I do reach out to you my fellow
Rangers to ask...will any of this be possible? I don't mean to sound
negative. Came imagine how huge this would be to the Ranger Community if
even half of all the Proposals were implemented?
But, I love this idea of a "Ranger Post"
Imagine a Ranger being able to setup a Trading post / Camp outside of a city. It would exist as long as it was manned, like a tent today, but could hold a vendor for selling common items. Food / Drinks / Pups.
Like a mini-merchant. Maybe the ability to "Tell" all those in a 2k radius and provide a wp.
Probably never make it over the design hurdles, but cool nontheless.
