The need for the RANGER profession has passed.

  1. Camo kits will have no purpose, with the purposed changes.

  2. We have NO skills for PvP.

  3. Vehicles make WAYFARING line useless, plus bonus in squad leader line can make up for the loss.

  4. Move camps to squad leader profession, since they will need them for troops.

  5. Move tracking to Bounty Hunter, Makes more sense to be there since two of the 3 tracking skills are for humanoids (NPC, Players).

  6. Traping can stay in scout, since ranger traps are useless.

  7. No noticeable difference in harvests from scout.

The profession has lost is usefulness, why keep it around? Give me a reason and I can show you another proffession where it belongs. Therefore, I suggest that NRaas tell the DEVs that they have eliminated the need for this Profession and allow us a chance to move our skill points to another comparable profession, without penalty.

I disagree. While some of our current skills are becoming less useful, the devs will add other skills to replace them. Looking at the many proposals currently floating around this board, Ranger is as alive as it ever has been. A lot of this is due to NRaas (without such a great correspondent, many people would probably have lost interest long ago). Ranger is a skill set that can work. It just still needs a bit of help.

Well Nerj,

Looks like you HAVE TIRED, HAVE FALTERED, and you Definately HAVE FAILED. Please do me and the rest of us a great service, drop everything you have in Ranger, and go play something else.

Personally I love being a Ranger, and YES they do need to spruce us up some, but I still have alot of fun with this class. If you think for one second that just because you cant succeed in having fun with it that they should just axe it, you need a serious ego check,

Agreed.

NRaas is doing a great job and collecting ideas for the devs.

The only problem is I really don't expect to see anything added specifically for Rangers until the middle of the year at best. We're a pretty low priority right now.

If you don't think you can handle being in this state for a few more months, I would advise trying other professions and maybe coming back when things are eventually added.

"Give me a reason and I can show you another proffession where it belongs."

Oh, and personally the reason that I keep my master ranger is almost more of a roleplaying thing than a usefullness thing.

My favorite parts of this game are not being an uber PvP player and finding the best template for combat, but rather somebody who travels and explores on his own. The idea of an explorer hunting wild beasts is still cool for me...even if the idea is cooler than the actual skills atm. And even though its mostly eye candy and I've put up 1,000 of em by now, I still get a kick from putting up a high tech field base in the most remote part of Endor.....just something cool about that. And the random 'tells' I get from people looking to buy hide/meat/bone is enough to tell me that folks still think the ranger profession is important.

He is right, we totally suck. I am stubborn though so will most likely hang in there.

If they make milking herbivores ranger only then it will go a long way towards making this profession more useful and it just seems like the right thing to do but everyone but rangers already assume it will be any novice scout. Read the other profession boards and every single time it is mentioned everyone is assuming it is scout. I will be so happy if it turns out to be ranger only.

And there is Nerj, standing on his little crate in front of the capital building, spraying spittle into the crowds as he bellows and flails his arms around like a demented puppet. "You've eliminated the need for Rangers!!! Get rid of them!!!" Little kids passing by hug their mother's legs and stare in horror at the rambling rage spewing out from the unwashed peasant in the middle of the street.

Then a young man dressed in robes, looking much like a priest walks down the street, in the direction of the crowd. A friend of his calls to him and says, "You've got to hear this dirty fellow speak, he makes such good points! What do you think of him, teacher?"

The young teacher says, "I think that it is easier for the weak and downtrodden to destroy the things that others have made rather than try to build those things up or build up something of their own." As he continues on, a boy with a blue bandana around his neck and a kreetle-skin cap bumps into the teacher.

"Sorry sir."

The teacher leans down, "Say, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

"I want to be a Ranger!" the boy says, pumping his fist into the air.

"Good for you, son. The profession needs all the help it can get."

Why would you just change the name, when there are already Rangers in the genre? Groups of people from the Star Wars galaxie who call themselves Rangers.

There's a reason to have Rangers in the game, even if it's not a perfect profession yet. I don't see any reason to have Outdoorsmen in the game at all though. Most players could call themselves outdoorsmen or outdoorswomen and be able to back it up completely, but a Ranger at least refers to something that is specialized and has a precident.

I have noted my reasons in another thread...

Master Creature Hunter, should it really be the direction this profession takes?

Why eliminate Ranger? If you do not think the profession has what you want then leave it. Simple as that.

I don't care much for PvP. I have no skills except a little Rifle and that does me no good when the defense modifiers come into effect, plus the opponent just runs up to me and nails me while I am trying to stand up. I still PvP, and it is with my Rifle andmy Faction pet troopers. I don't use my CH pets for PvP, they have no real use when up against high level/Master combat professions. I have a few that I will leave out on guard when covert just incase I heal a Tef'd pet. But I still end up in the clone center.

I still run around the advanced planets. I only ride my mount when I am on a mission, and I use my speeder when I need to get back to a starport fast.

I enjoy my HTFB. It is nice to drop it on a secluded section of a planet, and just sit and take a break.

The level of tracking that we as Rangers have is excellent. A BH tracking in the wilderness should not be as effective as a BH tracking near civilization. So I like the tracking aspect of Ranger to remain there, besides if a BH wants to track, it is only a few more skill points.

My Ranger traps work very well, and they benefit to using them is better than attempting to have CH pet apply a dizzy or a stun attack. And with my Rifle skills it takes a long time to throw a trap.

I have always noticed a difference when harvesting from creatures after acumulating a new box of skill. The biggest difference is on the larger animals. Before my friend dropped Novice Scout I could always out harvest him.

Does this profession need additional content? Sure. Is it working fine for me as is? Yes. I am enjoying myself, and I want this profession to stay, and I would prefer if it stayed with the name Ranger. There is a level of Respect granted when you see the title of Master Ranger, not Master Outdoorsman or such. Ranger is the end all be all of titles, and I am proud that I continued on to become a Master Ranger.
