Oh, and personally the reason that I keep my master ranger is almost more of a roleplaying thing than a usefullness thing.

My favorite parts of this game are not being an uber PvP player and finding the best template for combat, but rather somebody who travels and explores on his own. The idea of an explorer hunting wild beasts is still cool for me...even if the idea is cooler than the actual skills atm. And even though its mostly eye candy and I've put up 1,000 of em by now, I still get a kick from putting up a high tech field base in the most remote part of Endor.....just something cool about that. And the random 'tells' I get from people looking to buy hide/meat/bone is enough to tell me that folks still think the ranger profession is important.

Yes, while pretty looking camps are nice, what purpose do they serve? Healing, medics and doctors -- It is hard enough to get enough people to sit in a camp for the XP, to get to Master Ranger. A high tech camp with F&C and Generic Crafting stations are for groups and groups are for squad leader. Travel and exploring are easier with vehicles now. Hide/Meat/Bone can harvest only one an at Master Ranger, how much more than at Master Scout?

I love being a ranger.... I am looking forward to the changes that I am sure are coming.

I also would be upset if they change the title to something other than Ranger.

And there is Nerj, standing on his little crate in front of the capital building, spraying spittle into the crowds as he bellows and flails his arms around like a demented puppet. "You've eliminated the need for Rangers!!! Get rid of them!!!" Little kids passing by hug their mother's legs and stare in horror at the rambling rage spewing out from the unwashed peasant in the middle of the street.

Then a young man dressed in robes, looking much like a priest walks down the street, in the direction of the crowd. A friend of his calls to him and says, "You've got to hear this dirty fellow speak, he makes such good points! What do you think of him, teacher?"

The young teacher says, "I think that it is easier for the weak and downtrodden to destroy the things that others have made rather than try to build those things up or build up something of their own." As he continues on, a boy with a blue bandana around his neck and a kreetle-skin cap bumps into the teacher.

"Sorry sir."

The teacher leans down, "Say, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

"I want to be a Ranger!" the boy says, pumping his fist into the air.

"Good for you, son. The profession needs all the help it can get."

Sounds like a new CANTINA tune "Mothers, don't let your babies grow up to be RANGERS"

Just a little compound note in relation to the other posts (Bihlbo, just had to use your post). There is still not one comment on what will make this profession unique. Lets see -- DOCTORS, DANCERS, and MUSICIANS buff stats (medics and entertainersdon't), BIO-Engs make pets, CHers train and use pets (scouts don't). On and ON. What can a ranger do that a scout can't? tracking -- (doesn't work right) and the Outdoorsmen can track NPCs and Players (sounds like BH skills to me)

Harvesting Hides/Bones/Meat/ scouts do that, camps scouts, and trapping scouts (most used traps in Ranger line -- scout traps) Ranger traps and high end camps require metal. camo kits which are no better than maskscent and will no longer affect NPCs. Meaning when you are out exploring and activate a NPC spawn, you will bedead meat.

In closing, let me restate and Important line from Bihlbo post "The profession needs all the help it can get."

Hmmm, you are basing your desicion on aprofession before a revamping off skills is attempted. I would rather have the devs try to make the class more specialized and have more funtioning skills before calling for a deletion of the professions. You stated that we would still have to wait till we get any cahnce of revamping but if the devs deleted this profession well we would never get a chance to have a better ranger.

Anyways its a roleplaying game and its about flavour. I mean look at DaoC,for the Hibernians they have a basic tank aka Hero that is the swaord and shield mele guy. They also have a Champion which is also a tank but gives up some of his muscle to get some magic debuffing spells. Like wise with magic users, they have a multitude of them that has a differnt flavour. I mean DaoC could easily streamline the classes down into very basic ones like, Tank, Magic caster, Stealth and healer. Same with SWG why not just Ranged, Melee, Healing, Crafting? there ya go less decisions you have to make less flavour so you don't have to worry about fitting in to every scenario. heck we wouldn't need bounty hunter because if they scrapped that it would just mean that the next strongest c ombat profession would be king of thr ring its not like BH offers anything unique besides BH missions which could then just be given to any combat profession and a BH would just besomeone who does thos missions alot.

Anyways in the end is anyone holder a blaster to your had to stay with Ranger, if you don't like it just go over to whatever class you feel is the best use fo skillpoints, I mean if you like starting flames(come on you must have known making this post on the board where people who like the profession come would do so) then try commando they got a flamethrower it looks pretty cool all glowyand brightand such.

In whatever way you use your skillpoints best use of them to you.

I dont recall any "Outdoorsman" in the Star Wars trilogy..........I do recal mention of the Rangers. I would be sorely dissappointed if they changed our title to Outdoorsman. Of course that would open the door for a spin off game....we could call it...

"Bubba Goes Hunting" or "Bubba's Backyard Adventures"

It is a sad state of affairs with Ranger...as an example, in some recent group hunt invites on Dathormir

1. everyone gets their rancor missions with pets grouped --- ok nix the need for tracking.

2. Mostly the only time anyone needs a camp, theyre popping a basic just for the purpose of calling new pets ---nix the need to use resource intensive better camps, since no one really stays around long to use it and now with the upcoming ability to call pets w/o using camps even worse.

3. wayfaring ---well like others have said, as a group everyone just uses vehicles between missions, again pulling basic camps.

4. The trapping line -- well these are of some use taking down a rancor in my experience, but the most useful ones have been SCOUT traps, nothing new there.

So what do we have to add in this situation??? The only thing I can think of is our creature to hit bonus, which I am not clear on what we gain in damage per hit, and maybe camo, I've read the complaints on camo, but have not really had problems with it myself and enjoy it., Oh wait we also have conceal shot.....NO I forgot that's a rifleman skill...

I still plan on keeping Ranger in hopes of some improvements, but in my opinion unless drastic changes are made any enhancements to our existing skills are questionable in terms of future usefulness based on experiences with what we have at the moment.
