Ok, I have spent a good deal of my time here always being a helpful ranger....so i figured it was ok if I asked a REALLY bad question...

...the whole HOLO thing...I don't get it. Don't understand it....somethin to do with something that is dropped when you kill a NPC...someone please help me out. I spend most of my time split between solo-ing creatures or grouping and letting everybody else loot while I picked up scout xp. I gotta ask though...I am seeing people say they are holo-rangers vs. regular rangers...What gives?

some NPC's drop holos now, they are little cubes that tell you which professions to master, you master those professions and it brings you closer to opening up the FS character slot. I think people usually have to go through 3 or 4 holo's, and then I think there are also a few other things you have to do to open up the FS slot(not totally sure though). So holo people are the folks that are just grinding through professions to try and get a jedi, and regular people are playing the profession because they enjoy it.

ohh and since the holo's help with FS slots they are VERY valuable, ive seen them sell anywhere from 1.2-5 million credits.

Ahhhhh....makes total sense now. Since I am rather fond of my fellow NPC's out there...they tend not to bother me when I sneak by in my camo and tweak their noses...I really don't kill them....and I love working up to my chosen profession in a more methodic way anyway. Thanks for the info!

"I think there are also a few other things you have to do to open up the FS slot(not totally sure though)."

That is correct.

It is possible to use a holocron and receive no answer...

  • At which point the player must perform some other actions to gain the Jedi slot.

As to what the other actions are, thatwould be the main focus ofmost theories on the Jedi forum.

I guess I really don't care to sell my soul to try and become a jedi...rather hunt and watch my benefactor's try and fend off the beasties I find for them.

Is it just me.. or does that fact that you can SELL a holocron just not seem right?

It'll seem right if I can get my hands on one.. I have no interest in becoming a Jedi, but 5- 7 million credits can definetly get me some nice weapons, and clothes.. and some speed tape, and crates of power ups, and some other junk.

agreed.. the money is good... but WHY on earth would the devs make this a transferrable item?? Totally blows my mind. Someone can PURCHASE assistance on their path to be a Jedi.

Thats just plain wrong.

yeah but you gotta think about the pure artisan types. with no combat abilities whatsoever what other feasible way is there but to buy one.

Well, I could rephrase your post with "One screw up deserves another".

The holocrons were introduced because people weren't getting their FCS quick enough. I read the dev interview, and they were like "Well, we thought someone would have unlocked by now, but no one had so we put these in as hints."

Making them drops from combat was stupid...it was an easy way out.

But.. to address the 'non-combat' thing.. what the heck are they gonna do when their holocron says "You must master bounty hunter"?? They sure won't be able to keep on being an Artisan then.

Okay, my 2-cents on this HOLO thing since I now fully understand it. I see why the dev's are dropping hints because people weren't progressing far enough to get the FS.

BUT

My complaint is that why should someone get to become a Jedi by grinding professions? Why not make the opportunity random and have a certain amount of slots available at one time and randomly give them out? Would the force be only available to those who mastered many professions in SW? Did Luke? So, why not randomly assign them and THEN.....yes, then scout out a few good (or very bad) characters out there. Maybe someone who has been very helpful to others...or the opposite....give them FS...like an extra one or something. If there is a really bad guy out there...maybe an annoying pest who is getting a bunch of /ignore's...give him a Sith FS.

Now that would stop all this HOLO-ing and the NPC slaughter
