For you riflemen, which of these is more effective in your experience, and by what margin?

Cover has only been useful for NPC for me, I don't use it for critters. There I use /conceal and it gets you added time before you are noticed while fireing. You can get up to 6 missed using /concealshot while prone and /conceal ed. You do get a bonus defense against critter ranged attacks, however, but not many have that.

When /conceal worked on NPC is was asolutely perfect for soloing those impossible Merc missions on Lok, however. You can still do them tho, now that the buffs and armor are in.

Ok, well as Master Rifleman I can get off about 8-12 Headshots on an Enraged Rancor before he notices me. How many more shots could I expect to get off if I had conceal?

Twice. I can drop an Enraged with a mediocur laser or E11 sometimes... altho I use the Tenlos to go faster. T21 would work had it not been for the energy resist slowing things down a tad, but it's is faster then the laser or E11. Using /cover alonewill not get you this, and the combo adds nothing to the time, really. It only helps aiming, ranged defense and concealment chance if not usning /conceal. I feel that /conceal is superiour in keeping them from noticing you then /cover.

Double the number of shots? wow. Currently I have swords so that after they con on me I can finish them close, but if I can get 20 free shots with my T21 I wouldn't even have to worry about all that.

Conceal all the way, i never use cover.

Proneand Conceal and you can take down all the high level mobs (not all rares) without them even agroing you using headshot3 if you select your weapon right.

This realy comes into its own against disease/poison giving creatures. You never get hit so never get poisoned/diseased.

hehe it does help alot, but then again the defense and offensive bonuses you get with swords are very nice.

You have to ask yourself if there is enough in our profession to keep you happy

I dunno, I think I may just be a dirty dabbler and go 4040 in ranger, no offense but the traps and camps just don't seem like they're worth it. It does cut down on my PvP capabilities I suppose, but PvP is kind of borked anyway. I really like the idea of rangers, maybe I won't like it so much once I get there, but there's only one way to find out I suppose.

Becareful though. Conceal is checked at the 64m boundery. If you conceal inside that boundery, the check comes on the first shot. In ether case there is a chance for it to break right there and any time it breaks there is a chance for it to aggro, and all his friends if they are BAF and close. Best use is to start at 70m, /conceal, then drop and crawl in (it seems that the success chance really improves if you crawl).

Wait, so you have to enter conceal outside 64 meters, but can you fire using conceal from inside 64 m?

There are 2 triggers. You can never be checked twice though. If it is not checked on the 64m boundery (you use /conceal inside that boundery) it is check on attack or when you hit the normal agro distance (variable on every hostile, fixed at 64m for NPC SO using /conceal inside that is a bit pointless). It might be a bug that it is checked at 64m. I can confirm all these bounderies and triggers, however. I don't have all the critter agro distances memorized but I know a few of them... usually in the 15-40m range.
