Thread: Conceal vs. Cover

So..

64 meters for NPCs, but less for critters, thats about how it seemed to work using /cover. Except that i didn't know about the NPC range, i had just figured that /cover didn't work on NPC's period. I must have just been at 60 m every time.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

???? this post is abit beyong firstly conceal vs cover er.... whats wrong with cover and conceal???? and if u read the rifleman skill tree conceal works best from under cover!!!!! there fore to say conceal vs cover is completely foolish?

i also like to use maskscent over the top of this as well while hunting nasties.

There is nothing wrong with it. However, it's a waste to spend the time and the HAM loss (if not buffed) trying to get /cover to work and then /conceal on top of that if you are fighting a critter. I can see doing this for NPC that shoot, however. It is worse w/o sneak however, sense you are immoble while prone that way.

We have many, many, many issues with what the skill tree says as some are not correct to observation and in the case of /conceal you get two different stories depending on which dev you talk to.

whoa.. you can stack Conceal, Cover and Mask Scent? Has anyone ever done any testing on how effective that is?

As far as I know you CAN NOT use camo and maskscent at the same time.

No, MS and Conceal are mutually exclusive (atm).

This is a bit of a misleading topic. The poster is asking about two Rifleman items, not a ranger item. Ranger's have provided some great info concerning cammo and maskscent to supplement his question though.

In regards to theoriginal post, conceal is a rifleman special, cover is a special that derives from a Marksman tree, Cammo is a Ranger ability and Mask Scent is an ability that carries over from Scout.

The original poster is asking whether to use conceal or cover. (kind of a question meant for the rifleman board but hey we're nicer sometimes). Nowas Fred_Skinner states, you can't cammo and Maskscent... you can however Cover, Cammo (or Mask Scent) and then Concealshot1.

The Cover modifier changes your chances of being hit. The Cammo affects you're ability to be percieved by your enemies (Cammo is NPC AND critter) the conceal is a shot that may or may not succeed in scoring damage and not acruing agro.

The two (Conceal and Cover) work very differently. conceal prevents your being seen, Cover makes you harder to hit.

Hope this is helpful Kachada

Edit :: crossed out section was my misreading of the post... oops. I figured with conceal he meant the conceal shot that we rifleman get. Turns out with conceal he meant /conceal which results in cammoflage.

Regarding conceal vs. cover.....

/conceal is a ranger skill

/conealshot isa rifleman special attack that if it works prevents the target from knowing who/what shot it

/cover is a rifleman skill that a- makes you hidden (only critters/npc's that break it can attack you) and also b- gives defence bonuses once you are being shot at...

rifle concealment is an innate ability of riflemen that lowers the chance of creatures/npc's detecting the location of your shots

I know this because I used to be a master rifleman and used this all the time....

yep... you're absolutely right... I misread what he meant. when you type /conceal it activates cammo.

Cammo and cover are still two differnt things though. While Cammo can prevent Aggro, Cover only provides defensive adjustments. Cover does not, however, hide you from view. I does give you the ability to use "certain sneak attacks" and "additional defense."

Currently Rifle Concealment does not prevent your target from seeing you either. It does, however, prevent anything other than your immediate target from seeing you. The result is... if you throw a bleed on a kreetle, and you ahve Rifle Concealment Chance 100, only that one kreetle attacks. Without that modifier the chances of the Krettle BAFing are much higher.

In the end... the /conceal and /takecover commands do different things then. Cammo doesn't affect your defense, it just affects you're chances of drawing aggro while cover affects what specials you (as a rifleman) can use and what defenses you have.

like my last post above im a master rifleman / ranger

you can stack cover/consealshot and maskscent altogether cammo doesnt.

as for not worth it concern to ham if u lay down first then take cover you dont jump dwon as if you are taking a dive and dont lose any ham.

and all 3 is very effective.

i find if im attacking just one nasty on its own cover will let u get about 3 shots off without being spotted with maskscent about another 1-2 shots but with conceal shot u can pretty much muller it to death.

if your serious about soloin nasties u have 2 options option 1 take cover and run a conceal shot macro

or 2 take cover with added cover clothing maskscent and spamm head shot 3
