Greetings & Salutations Rangers!
I think you guys and gals have one of the coolest sounding titles in the game. I have a question for you. I am working on my second character as a fun, exclusively PvE kind of Twi'lek (versus my PvP/PvE factional dude in my signature). I enjoy really customized templates. My guy below, for example, can self heal everything but battle fatigue, can self buff a little and jump to life immediately after an incap, and can feign death. High survivability. Plus two good combat professions when married together.
My new character (High-Priest Jakan) will most likely end up CH 3-2-1-4, Master Scout, Master Rifleman, Novice Medic, Ranger 4-0-0-0. I went with the first line in Ranger to bolster the concealment of my rifleman. What does "Conceal" do? Can you use at the same time you use "Cover" as a rfileman and "Mask Scent"? Any other thoughts?
Thanks so much...

/conceal is has pretty much the same function as /maskscent, with the exception that itcan be applied to other characters (you could /conceal your friends, and they could sneak around even if they don't have /maskscent)... some people argue that it works better than /mask, others say that /mask beats /conceal for them... the only thing we are sure of is that /conceal works on some NPCs, though this might not be intended (despite the description)...
on the rifleman note... /conceal and /mask have nothing to do with any combat skills... your rifle concealment chance and cover, are completely unrelated skills... the only thing you will notice is that while /masked or /concealed, you will be able to fire more shots before the creature notices you... if you couple this with being /prone (cover not required), you should be able to do quite a bit of damage before the MoB even looks your way... /mask works just as well as /conceal when using that trick, though...
also... cover isn't actually required for /concealedshot or /surpriseshot (again, despite the description)... all it does is supposedly increase ranged defense by some amount, although the devs have said that it is barely noticeable with the way defenses are calculated now - expect this to change with publish 10...
and once again, oddly enough, /concealedshot and /conceal are unrelated... /sigh... why did they name these things something so similar?... /concealedshot can be done unmasked from standing...
the only thing i think you will pick up from that tree that you will use asa rifleman is the TN... you will definitely notice a bigdifference in your crawl speed - actually something a lot of creature-hunting riflemen use, as creatures have a tendancy to walk around while we're sneaking our shots in...

I would honestly suggest that if you plan on taking Ranger, drop the wayfaring line except wayfaring I..that will give you the /conceal command. Then befriend your local ranger who will provide for you crates of camo kits that you can use with the /conceal command.
1 caveat:
camo is not that much better than mask scent and is resource heavy. your skill in camo will be less than that of /maskscent and may break more frequently.
If you are into harvesting for cash, or having a +to ranged bonus for creatures, go up the tracking line. ignore ranger traps/ camps useless.

Thanks for all the posts! Great info that will save me grinding I did not need to do. Although I read one of the Ranger posts on a hunt he did, and all the meat he harvested (very well written post), and I have to admit it me considering it. It is also interesting that I got great feedback almost immediately, yet when I post on BH boards for questions I am lucky to get any response.
