Thread: Does anyone here actually feel like a Ranger?
Hey,
I'm a Master Ranger on Starsider, and I was sort of thinking to myself just now that I could run down to my wilderness outfitter, and walk away a better ranger in real life then I would be in a 'galaxy far far away'.
They have camoflauge outfits and equipment that work, so I wouldn't be spotted by bears 100m away, and then be chased around like Benny Hill. They have traps that actually do things to large creatures, like hurt them, or capture them. Theyhave weapons that will killmost creatures in under 30 shots. They have tents and wilderness shelters that don't dissappear a few seconds after leaving them. They even have things that you couldn't find, evenif you searched all of the 'divided galaxy', like animal callers that let me coax creatures to me.
Just my two scents... Now I have to jump in my Toyato Corolla land speeder, and go tomy corner bazaar for some tobacco spice.
She stands on a cliff, high above the valley. Alone. Even in a dangerous and harsh environment, she is calm. A herd of deadly creatures meander past. She takes out her binoculars and examines them for possible resources. All planets hold secrets. The wind whispers to her. Secrets revealed.
She has no destination. No mission for pay. She plays on the mountains like a child on a slide. Quickly up and down. Again.
The light from the day fades. She hears the music of the world. Her camp is secure. Hides stretched to dry. Bones sorted on the grass. She bends to find her dinner, sits and watches the sky deepen. From bits of her days harvest, she crafts traps for the morrows hunt.
Wrapped in a blanket of her own making, she lays near the fire and sleeps under the stars.
Yup, I kinda like being a Ranger ![]()
Beautiful posts both ![]()
I am just getting started as 0010 Ranger. I hope to see a more powerful class to Master. When the visions come true, I will be there too.
I certainly do feel like a Ranger.
I ama Master Ranger on Bria, and it would seem to me that while I feel like a Ranger, I don't feel like a wartime Ranger caught up in the woes of the Rebel Alliance. It seems lacking in that area, but then again, who becomes a Ranger to PvP?
Most Rangers become such because of the pleasure of killing and respecting beasts. The dilemma is, which skills match up best to make you feel like you are a part of something bigger.
We started a good hunting group of Rangers on our server, and while everyone comes form this guild or that faction, when we are together it's all about us and the wilderness beneath our feet.
It helps make me feel like a Ranger to hunt with like minded people. However, I await with great anticipation something that makes me feel like I can contribute to the Rebel cause. Tracking Imps aside of course. Scouting faction bases is also quite enjoyable, just as long as you are careful, and covert.
Wow Ehope. /agree
That is pretty much how I feel. I spent much of my time working through scout and part of ranger soloing and wandering planets for sake of wandering. I would look at interesting unique terrain as a challenge, I would check out new creatures and see how challenging they were and if they were worth it. Or carefully tip toe away from the snarling nasty creatures that were hunting me. I was contantly wandering what was over that next mountain, or down in that next valley. When I'm out in the wild doing my thing, whether its' solo or with a group, I feel like a wilderness ranger.
I'm part of this hunting group Seek spoke of and we have a great time. We are there soly for the hunt, and with fellow rangers/scout and friends. We are not there for xp, just to gather resources from creatures, and have a fun time watching each others backs in the wild. Great fun.
Depends on my mood, sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't. Lol.
Fantastic post y'all.
But yes, I feel like a Ranger, but within my definitions of such. Not so much the Ranger Smith and the picanik baskets, more of the military Ranger type. I shoot really well, can camo pretty decently (I recently played tag with an enranged rancor), kill about anything I care too, harvest well, and in PvP I can recon while 500m out, know exact enemy strength, and then wander in camo'd and see whats up (except for the stupid faction scanners, but I got a trick on them too). So yeah, I feel like a Ranger.
If we could use traps on pets and our FBs were real bases, not falling down when I shot something, I would be a very very very happy Ranger. Someday...right Nrass??

Ehope,
I really like your poem. I think it really embodies what it means to be a ranger.

Ehope, well done.
Allthough I have only taken on the Ranger skill because some stupid cube says my path lies this way, I admire everyones passion for this class, and can agree the skills learned can be fun and challenging. So good luck to all, and fight the good fight.
If you are injured, my camp will heal you.
If you are in danger, my conceal will protect you.
If you are attacked, my rescue will save you.
If you wish to hunt, my areatrack will find it for you.
If you wish to build it, my havest will provide for you.
If you wish to kill it, mytraps will assist you.
We are a very diverse class that really shines in the wild. We track, hide, forage, skin, camp, trap, and get a to-hit bonus to boot. Yes, I feel like a ranger. I am a vital part of the group, and my companions suffer when I am not there to lend my skills to the cause. I will not take out a Stormtrooper easily in a fight, but he will never be able to hide from that dewback that I just led into their mists.

Tenrai, just beautiful.
It is wonderful to see such a heartfelt post on the boards. There is talent here. The developers of Star Wars Galaxies should be proud that they can inspire such thoughts. Beauty is everywhere in our pixelated world. Thanks to all that created it and to those that see beyond the borders.
Why am I a Ranger?
To Be One
She sings to me
From way out there
In a whisper few can hear
From the rolling hills of sun kissed Kor Vella
To the unwinding darkness of Dathomir
She comes to me in a dream song
Letting me know she’s there
In lands of peril she assures me
Without words, the gift of passage she bestows
If you listen you can hear her
She’s is everything this wilderness knows
Quiet now…
From the crackle of my fire
To the horizons in each directions
And the stars far above
I am one with her
I am one with the wild
