Thread: Your opinion about this????

In the Creature Handler Forum there is an idea being bounced around again about Creature structures. The main use of these structures would to hold, breed, milk, or gather eggs. There is even an idea for a structure that would hold and breed aquatic type creatures for harvest. This idea would involve support of and by other professions that could be impacted by it such and Chef, Bio-Engineer, and Architect. Chef and Bio-Engineer would be impacted since they would be able to have a ready supply of certain components that are now “very” inconvenient to obtain. Architect would be involved due to the creation of new structure schematics being added to their skill set. I wanted to get your opinions on the validity and practicality of this idea and encourage posting of your replies and ideas on the related forums.

Sounds like a farm to me.

Doubtful that the Devs would let the CHs/BEs get over on having one of these, but ya never know.

Do I care? Personally not one lil rats patootie. Would I care, nope.

Sort of defeats any and all purposes to let CHs/BEs have to go out and find and harvest or tame, or whatever they do.

They wanna be farmers, fine. However, make realistic growth cycles. weeks instead of days to a possible harvest, breeding cycles measured in months, and force the new animals to be fed, watered, etc, and then see how long this idea stays alive.

do you really go out and collect molluscks? milk? eggs? If I get some, I sell 'em sure, but it's not at the top of my priorities sheet. If they want 'em they can have 'em. But yeah...it shouldn't be fast. It shouldn't completely negate the benefits of going egg hunting by hand.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

The above was suggested by a forward thinking person in the Architect forum and I think that it is a good one. Whereas the harvesting of milk, eggs, and breeding of animals would be in the hands of the Creature Handlers the production of the meat, hide, and bone would be in the hands of the Rangers. What do you think about this proposal?

Yes guys...keep it constructive. I am not for anyhting that would allow someone (even Rangers) to harvest critter resources from a farm. I am a hunter, and I want to hunt.

I'm all for a "farm" where you could "harvest" eggs or milk. But not meat, bone or hide. I agree with Calc on those, hunt. I'm not the biggest fan of beingjust a hide/meat/bone mobile harvestor but could you imagine that being taken away?

I would think that farming milk or eggs would be for the creature handlers. I see it this way. They're the ones who can tame(domesticate) animals so they'll thrive in captivity. The structures could be called coops or corrals. We have a lot of knowledge about wild animals but they're creature HANDLERS. They know about taming animals and working with tame animals.

On Bloodfin I’m a Master Ranger and Novice Creature Handler. On Scylla I am a Master Creature Handler and Novice Ranger. There is no person that has a greater love of the hunt than myself but I do see some merit to the idea of a static structure that will grow meat, hide, and bone for me sounds cool. If my care and attention will allow me to tweak results then I would be the “King of Animal Husbandry!” I was raised on a farm and I can never get the, “My pig is better than yours”, mentality out of me. But at the risk of repeating myself I see no threat a structure of this sort.

I can kind of understand that, having spent some time on farms myself but I'm not sure I like the idea of a static structure for hide/meat/bone(something seems not right about those words...). I can see farming eggs and milk. Maybe a structure for selectively growing plants that we can eat, like melons and such. The better quality the structure, the better the final product. For the milk and eggs you'd need to put different creatures in the corral depending on the resource shift to get best results. I am all for experimentation on ranger and scout crafted itemsI just don't want to lose my worth as a resource gatherer. My rubber chicken sells laced feed to your uberhog

But the profession is Ranger, not Farmer. Rangers are masters of the wild. Domestication and enslavement of animals for the sole purpose of harvest is completely against the basic beliefs of a Ranger.

This is from my first post on this forum. I agree farming is not for rangers. I'm against anyone having structures for the Big 3(meat/hide/bone).
