Thread: Harvesting droid ?

Ok, I read the specs... after the Devs fixed them. Gotta be a scout/ranger, ok, rant on that /off

And what does it do that I can't do?

It will harvest the same as I do.

So in essence I am paying creds to get a droid; which I have to maintain, and train, and fix now and then, and remember to give commands to, that does less than my two line loot/harvest macro does. My macro loots and harvests, the droid harvests. Wait, it can carry stuff - so can I, and withoutcommands to target and open, a two key command lets me see how much I have of what I harvest.

I will admit, I am confused? Why is this a good thing?

Oh, we can give money to the DEs, is that interdependence in action? Because this droid is freaking useless as far as I can see.

All I can say is..... thanks, but no thanks.

I agree JB. A harvesting droid that doesn't increase the amount we harvest is a waste. Just a quick thought tho. I've never owned a 'droid or a pet but wouldn't I be grouped with the droid and if so wouldn't I and the droid both be able to harvest the same corpse resulting in more harvested?

I think a milking droid or a fishing droid would be more appreciated. Those are tedious tasks. How about an entertainer droid I can pop out in an otherwise empty cantina to heal my BF? Ok. I'll stop now.

Rumor says being grouped with pets only, and I guess that means droids, will not result in the 40% harvest drop, This change will take effect in an upcoming publish, the next I think. Hot diggety dog... oh wait, my pets suck, so I don't use them to hunt creatures, only NPCs.

Curses... another unasked for "benefit" that's useless to most of us. Altho the Rangers silly enough to use pets as weaponswill behappy, and that's a good thing. See, I can be nice to CHs, unlike Brisc...lol.

Benefits of droid harvesting

1. The droid's harvesting ability is tied to the "Creature Harvesting" skill of the owner. As the player's "Creature Harvesting" skill goes up, so does the harvesting ability of the droid. However, with enough stacked modules of decent quality, the droid's harvests can be greater than the owner would get doing it themselves. For example, with a droid having "Harvest Bonus 95" the droid would get about 20% more than the player.

2. The droid can be commanded to harvest resources even if the player is in combat.

3. The droid can be sent to harvest from a corpse 30m away.

I just figured out some of the rationalization behind this retarded droid.

Riflemen. No, not the usual Ranger, take a few concealed and then take it out like a man or woman.

Let us call them Rifleboys - sissys who sit and use conceal shot to take the critters down. Takes time (fade out of kill one before kill two is dead) Gotta stay out of harvest range (30 meters for the droid, fetch, Bucketofbolts, fetch).

Appears to me they are totally catering to the biggest wimps in the game. Anyone got a better explanation?

I use pistols, a lot of Rangers are melee.Regardless, 99.9% of the Rangers don't have the problem of fade out, as we kill em quick or we draw one out and laff at the rest. The distance deal is not a problem, I am usually snout to nose with my kills. The slowest weapons are rifles, the slowest shot is conceal - it does make sense.

Again, I know a lot of Riflemen and women, and I am notragging onthem. Only the chickens who decide the only way to kill is at range as they are too scared to close with the critters. What's that, one in 100? if that?? Altho I hear those crazed durnis are mean lil boogers.

Ok, harvest abilities. Too many ifs and shoulds for me. And let's do the (shudder) math. 40% of my less than munificent harvest, if I have two modules - 40% of my 30% Master bonus level, call it a100harvest unit drop for me- wow, it gets 12 extra hides (I think). Oh wait, that's if the bonuses stack, which I doubt, having seen thenerfs lately to fencers, and if the veghash bonus applies to the droid ( who knows, prolly will, easier math for the Devs). Yeah, I need a droid to get maybe 12 more harvest.

Sorry guys, I am not slow. I do not sit at 63.9 meters and snipe, Fade out and distance are not problems that most Rangers contend with. At least, I have seen no one talk about it here, or in recent posts. And if stacking doesn't work, is the extra expense and hassle of running a droid (they get lost, they gotta be fixed, they need recharging, they sometimes run off) worth the extra units of harvest.

Yet another gift we didn't ask for, didn't want, won't use, and will have to suck up as an improvement from the Devs.

I agree with you JB (not that it is much of a surprise). They said harvesting droids, I said "Enh". If they didn't have to be recharged I might have one simply for RP purposes, but it sounds like more hassle than it is worth.

Thanks for being kind to creature handlers. We need it of late. (I won't tell anyone though, as I don't want to ruin your gruff image. )

Just so you know, not all riflemen use /concealshot. I just make sure to single pull. Then I kill them before they reach me, usually trying to get them to drop just as they get closer than 15m. And, luckily,it usually works (as that rancor would one hit me if it ever got the chance).

I was a master rifleman/ranger for many months and even now when I harvest avian meat for example, I easily kill the critters in 1 or 2 hits and it is a pain in the ass to have to run up to each little bird and hit my /harvest macro 20 times per lair. Having a droid that will harvest whatever I simply look at and even store the harvest in it's own cargo bay has me greatly looking forward to these droids. Call me lazy but this is what droids are suposed to do, make our lives easier in the star wars galaxy

I don't see it making my life easier..

I'm a Teras Kasi Master and here is how my 'harvesting' goes if I am trying to pump out a big stack of something for a customer.. I tried not to leave out anything which is annoying so you can see where the bit's that really need fixing are.

Step #1 - Locate a resource which has stats required by customers.

Although this is a simply enough process if you are going to travel around all the planets squash a few creatures and take a few samples, I think the ideas which have been said about a droid which can give you some kind of idea about the organic resource available on the planet you are currently on would be a good idea.. You set the little resource tracker droid going and it goes and slices a little bit of an animal and checks it out for you reporting back on it's progess, you could even go as far as having the droids be configurable to check specific resource types like leathery hide.. If you are on dath, leathery comes from rancors, your droid has a reduced chance of working on dath do to rancors swatting your droid when it gets near.. It's something I read about one time.. But this would be usefull and save me alot of time, so much it would be noticable on a daily or weekly basis as resources shift and I need to keep up with the market.

Step #2 - Find a good way to bring in the goods.

This is a pain, what I do is grab two missions from the terminals in a general direction ( EG: NW/N/NE) of the same type and then try to zig zag to the lairs in order to get more spawns active on the way, but it usually fails and I just end having the two lairs from the terminals to work with.. What we could use here is a filtering system on the destroy terminals for types of creatures , directions etc and be able to grab what we want.. Hitting refresh fifty times to get two missions matching is stupid when all it is doing is time wasting as the terminal doesn't display enough missions.. We also need area track to force spawns as people have said before this would allow me to get to my mission lair , complete it and track for another lair in the general direction of my next mission and then again at the second mission before I return to the terminals. Of course if it worked like that I could stay off the terminals all together and hunt in the wild, like I'm supposed to.

Step #3 - Harvesting the goods.

Simplest part of the whole process, I go up to a lair and there are three or four creatures which don't aggro , I kill each in turn and once they hit the deck I harvest. Tap the lair once, peace, kill the next pop's worth.. Tap the lair to around 60% , peace , kill the nxt pops worth.. If the creatures do aggro all that occurs is I have to move even less as when I attack the first critter the rest naturally circle me causing me to kill the mob and then move my mouse in a clockwise circle harvesting from each , see above for the pop system I would use... If I used a droid at this point it would actually slow me down , not speed me up in my opinion as I have this system VERY well timed..

Step #4 - Stacking and collecting the goods.

Ok, it all goes into my inventory and stacks up to 100,000 units.. At which point I put it in an MSE moue droid with a class 10 storage module.. I can hold up to 1,000,000 units in that droid.. I have five droids, I can hold 5,000,000 units.. And I do this while I am waiting for a shuttle off world. I can't see why having it droid straight into the droid would make a difference in any way other than giving me more time to sit idle by the ticket collector.. Oh and if I managed to get 100k since our harvesting is so poor I would be surprised , that was just an example...

So.. Based on my style of big stack hunting.. Why do I need a droid ? Where would it improve the speed of my harvest ?.. This droid is useless to any hunter who, as JB said, actually hunts...

Most don't actually besides those stuck somewhere in an early stage of rifleman (hunting creatures for ressources as base, I do /concealshot nightsister elders and other high-ham things, I never concealshot creatures that I hunt for ressources).

Why? Simple: A (/conceal or /maskscent using) Master Rifleman can take out everything remotly reasonable to hunt for ressources (everything up to an ancient bull rancor) with master headshot before the mob notices him (if using the right weapon for the right mob of course). It's *much* faster than concealshot. Still we have some distance to get accross (simply because it makes sense to use a weapon at it's ideal range, most of our weapons ideal ranges are around 60m), a droid might help there.

The MRM using the "brute force" approach of /strafeshot2-spamming probably have the bodies lying quite close to them, those maybe do not see a (good working) droid as useful for them.

Oh and a person with a profession that is "ranged combat" is no sissy when using the advantages of a "ranged profession". A person using a ranged class to get up-close with creatures on the other hand might be considered as someone ... semi-clueful.

JB: How about getting back to your old "form". Rants based on half-assed facts are nothing people want to read, try to get to your old form of rants, those that actually had a decent base and were not just rants for the sake of rants.
