This is nuts! Rangers rely on traps, snares and state effects! If they dont work on NPCs and players then we should NOT be considered a combat role and REDUCE the skill pts requirements.

I had always wanted to try Master Ranger and I now have it. MaybeI am missing something, but this sux as you cant use traps on players.. hell you can in World of Warcraft...

Yes, I did respec to Ranger this is an old toon and I have always wanted to try it. But like I said this is NUTTTS! if you cant use your tools for pvp combat. And they need to reconsider this role to non-combat and reduce the skill pts required.

My toon is a MBH+MRanger I love it but I hate the fact that I cant use traps to root my enemy where as I could with Smuggler and Pistolieer.

maybe it's just me but i don't think this should be that much of a surprise, really. the description of this profession doesn't mention anything about 'hunting' people, only animals. so why should our traps be effective against people?

Well, heh, welcome to our world. OK everyone, respec or no, let's welcome our newest brethren into our world of bugs and facepaint.

Oh, I should warn you, Maximus, every time over the course of the next week or two, or however long you keep your Master Ranger status, that you come up with some new ALERT!, please, please, please please please DO NOT POST IT.

We already know all of what you're going to post, and you'll just upset the old farts and cause the young hotheads to go off, and get us all riled up again, just when we finally got all calmed down again.

Instead, I respectfully (no pun intended) ask that every time you find a flaw in our most beloved of professions, that instead of coming here and posting and inciting us to flamery, you instead go out and buy a pair of hawt pants. I hear they're the rage in Ranger-finery.

errr, ahhh, ROAR

I understand we are entitled to our personal opinions here, but from me perspective, why would you be able to throw a grenade at someone (IE NPC or PVP Player) but not a trap or a dart? This makes no sense from my perspective. I am just REALLY surprised.

"the description of this profession doesn't mention anything about 'hunting' people" - I totally disagree as in the tracking tree you have specific abilities to track/hunt NPCs and other players. Hence I was surprised I can hunt them but cant use my tools to defeat them.

Also, I played WOW in beta and the Ranger in WOW was alot of fun. You can trap players there too and hide off the trail in the woods under cover. It was quite a blast until I quit the game right after launch.

Well if you had looked down the posts you might have seen a correspondent post about PvP and traps. But thats ok a WTH post is more then needed in this case. I mean how else can you possibly get attention?

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. You gonna tell me that a trap laying on the ground throwing up tiny darts coated with poison, or a thing that sets off a huge flash of light, or an ear-popping noise, is not going to effect a person, real or not, standing directly over it or within 5 meters? Or even the person throwing the dang trap if he is close enough? C'mon.

But, suspense of disbelief. This is a game, and things don't work in games like they do in real life.

However, it has always been that way. It is a shame that you used up your token respec to be surprised by this.

Oh well, it is what it is. I hope you stay ranger and experince the coolness of the profession like we have despite its drawbacks.

Yes, I am liking it very much atm and will stay ranger no matter what. But if I cant root or snare with traps I need more avail skill pts to pick the skill up in pistols or smuggler.

=)

They do send mixed signals about about what our role is...they don't know and we don't know .

Alas, this isn't WoW, thanfully.

Please, no. And Please, stop posting like this. The LAST thing most of us want to see is a knee-jerk reaction but the Devs or anyone else about dropping SP cost or stripping out functions of Ranger without thought, based on "the sky is falling!" type posts. There are quite a few great posts here about how to fix / improve / enhance Ranger as a profession that don't involve gutting the profession or reducing the SP cost. While it's not a unanimous point of view, a majority of long-time Rangers, those of us who actually WANT to play Ranger - don't want the SP reduced, we want the SP investment to come with a corresponding set of valuable skills, mods and benefits. Many of us WANT a role in the GCW, many of us WANT Ranger to be MORE combat-oriented, not less. I certainly don't mean to be rude, but please don't post emotional and charged things like this when you're brand new (and a respec to boot) to the profession. If nothing else, take some time to LEARN the profession, figure out what works and what doesn't, and learn that Rangers have the most powerful weapon in the game - their brain.

Since you respec'd in, you lost out on the benefit of learning the profession by coming up through the ranks and seeing what works and what doesn't on you own as part of your journey to Master. Take this time you have now, and go do just that. Then, once you've walked the breadth of all the planets, once you've seen all there is to see, once you've played around with the traps, the camps, and the few skills we have to find out for yourself what works and what doesn't - THEN come here, and post your constructive ideas on how to make the profession better. Or, if you find it's not for you - quietly slip off into the night, knowing that should you ever decide to come back in the future, there will always be a log by the fire for you to sit on.

i admit that it doesn't make sense that we can track players and npc's, yet not throw our toys at them. still, though, by definition, rangers in this game weren't designed to hunt people.

that's why they made bounty hunters.
