Thread: Rangers and Droids
R2 unit with 105 med enhancment chip =).
Also own a probot, but he pretty useless really
Iuse a R2 Unit with 110% medical module, a Storage Module, and a Data Module....
I store all my resources and foraged food (over 100 ) in him and keep all my "quest and rare loot" waypoints in him too.
At the moment thats alldroids are good for......looks, Medics and Artisan assistance. I had the first 3PO Model on Tempest and it was pretty much useless, I spent 25 thousand credits on him and the only reason I bought him was so people would ask me where I got him (to help out Haley) and "WOW a C3PO: can he talk to Ewoks?" me.
If you plan on getting the best camp, it already has medical and general crafting stations (public ones). If this is not enough for you, then the crafting module would be useful. The storage module is definately useful. As for a combat droid, wait till they fix Droid Engineers. The current ones (at least as far as I've seen) are not very useful. They die too quickly on any of the hard creatures/NPCs and you don't need the help on the easier stuff.

I'm thinking about getting a droid and I'm curious if any of my fellow Rangers use droids and how you utilize them? Do you use droids for combat, medical, storage or crafting? What model of droid do you own?
Right now I'm leaning towards a droid with storage/crafting modules; a droid that I can temporarily put my harvested resources into and use as a crafting station. Of course the thought of a combat droid is also attractive for those times when I need a little help while I'm soloing. I don't think a medical droid would be useful to me, since I can erect camps and as I progress in Ranger I will eventually have to surrender my medical skills.
I don't want a biological pet because it doesn't fit into my Star Wars roleplaying. One of the things I dig about Star Wars was how integrated technology was into everyday life; what looks advanced to us has been available to the characters in Star Wars for hundreds of years.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or recommendations in regards to droids, modules and skilled droid engineers. I'm based out of Anchorhead, Tatooine, on the Tempest server.

Well, I'm the proud owner of two droids now: a R2 w/ storage and crafting modules and a Probot.
The R2 unit is great! I store my resources in him and bring him out whenever I'm camped so I can use his crafting station to produce better traps, camps and medical supplies. He also counts as a guest in the camp log. I could just as easily (and less expensively) purchased a MSE droid with the same features, but they're not as cool looking in the camp or following you around town.
I just got the Probot and I enjoy hunting with him. He's not a tank and he'd be no help on a Krayt hunt, but that's not why I got him. Having him float around me on solo hunts while we pick off multiple attackers is just cool and he can hold his own against most of the creatures I hunt while I bleed them from a distance. The only time he was incapped was when we were ambushed by a nest of Bobcatts (mask scent broke). My Probot did what he was programmed to, guard me, while I ran out of range. He held off three Bobcatts for a long while before succumbing to the damage, allowing me time to heal and get mask scent back up again. It was a true sacrifice to save his master.
Nothing says Star Wars like having a droid. ![]()

I take it that the whole droid storage bug has been fixed. I have an R4 droid with storage capacity, but every time I recall him, all of his contents go back into my general inventory. Is this problem fixed now? I'll check the next time I'm in the game.
"I have an R4 droid with storage capacity, but every time I recall him, all of his contents go back into my general inventory"
Odd... I thought that was how it was supposed to work.
- My understanding was the storage module was only available when the droid was deployed.
Anyone know the true intention?
I have 2 probots, one with light armor(bought used)and one with medium armor I find them invaluable with several things:
first, you can determine if a critter is a group fighter with them,
second they make decent tanks (in my opinion)
finally, they are great for rp aspect of game
Re: Droid storage
Items stored in the droid should stay in the droid when stored. I have 2 probotsone pre-nerf, one new. My new one can store 10items and keeps them in it's inventory when stored.
With 10 item storage available now, and a 5 droid limit in your data pad you can keep and extra pack worth of items (50) on hand without it taking up personal inventory.
This helps make up for having my pack unequipped when in my armor. (FYI packs, belts, anything worn on the outside if your armor makes you vulnerable to the armor hole bug, damage will find its way in through these points and hurt you more quickly)
I also use my droids as guards when soloing big game, to cover me from being jumped from behind when in combat (guard mode), but if hunting and harvesting do not group with them (or pets if you have them), it will reduce the quantity you can harvest.
