Thread: Ranger Camp Improvement Idea…camp cooking

I really do love Ranger camps (Shoot I just love being a Ranger, dropped BH to come back to it). As many of you I like to see improvements to our camps to make them, and us, valuable to other players.
There have been many ideas from fellow Rangers; like mission terms, BF healing and, not disbanding during combat, all them I support 100%.

I like to add one more idea….camp cooking!

Know that camp fire (with the cool cooking pans and kettle next to it). Let’s make it useful (more that adding that nice cracking sound in camp).

Let us be able to produce “camp food” that will give buffs. Ok, I can hear the Chefs sharping there cleavers, but wait! We could only make small amounts of this (not enough to sell via vendor, and not good as Chef food). We would make this camp food with items we harvest like milk, eggs and meat.

You could “use” the camp fire (off a radial menu) form there it will have different items to cook. Select the items, and then from there you have the typically crafting interface. Food will take some time to cook, and only comes out in small portions.

Then you eat, and get a small buff (mind, health). Combine that with an in camp mission term and you have a very cool hunting camp.

Thoughts?

How about making smores that can reduce BF? I always thought it was funny to have a huge HTFB with a small campfire in the middle. I think we should at least have marshmellows to toast.

Wow i totally love this idea. I agree with the devs about if camps automatically healed BF then it would remove the need for cantinas and dancers/musicians etc. However this system would be perfect. It isnt an automatic camp feature that starts working in ANY camp from setup to disband, it would work by yeah, tossing some foraged herbs, few lumps of meat and some eggs etc intothe pot/stove and then you get the benefits.

It would take time to get rid of the BF but not too long, however it must not be anything like entertainer healing rates. There must be a clear difference in effectivnessbut not to the extent where one skill becomes redundant.

I dont think food should give a small buff, our herbs and foraged fruit do that (although very limited at present) however herbs and foraged foodstuffs would be perfect to acompany this system. Certain combinations of meats and herbs give different rates of bf healingand could leed to some very fun tasteing sessions with rangers in a camp finding the best combination.

Furthering this idea id love to see a system that would allow alternative professions to take advantage of our camp features in some way. Here are two very rough ideas:

  • Chefs: When in group and in camp would enable him/her to utilise the stove/pots to a greater degree. Obviously nothing like to the same effectiveness as with a high tech kitchen but much better than we rangers can do with group benefits. Maybe they could drop one of their crafted foods into the pot and those who choose to eat it gain benefits. For example a master chef drops a vas brandy into our stewing pot allong with our ingredients and the groupies who chooseto eat that meal gain 50% of the brandy mind enhancment but at a loss of 50% duration and 50% filling. So effectivelly portions are diluted between the group by 50%. This would give our camps a purpose with a master chef for hunts.

  • Doctors:They would be able to utilise the HTFB's rather substancial medical facility to their advantage. When a doc is in group taking a seat on the medical beds would give the doctor 10% buffing increase and 25% wound healing capability. On another note i wouldlike to see the 10% buff enhancement be applied to medical facilities in towns and player cities also to limit the starport camping etc and utilise these buildings.

Obviously there are alot more andwould be alot of fun developing these ideas further however you get an idea of the type of thing im getting at.

I like the change you all recommended on healing (including BF heal) in place of buffing. That also sounds great.
That could make more sense..and if there is a Chef in camp have them be able to make food that buffs. I rather our camps include other profession rather that exclude.

Great input!!

Keep it coming. Any thoughts Calc?

Thanks

Playing off that idea, give the HTFB the ability to heal BF *if* you use an organics cooker (the stove in the HTFB comes to mind) to make "camp food" for everyone. Giving a buff is almost certainly too "overpowering" for the devs to consider (*chuckle*) but healing some fatigue totally makes sense to me. You're kicking back, enjoying the sunset, and eating a nice Rancor sandwich, fresh from the kill to the grill.

as a scout, i think ill throw an idea in. how about the food just heals you instead off buffing. we have to much stuff taht buffs and ifits not as good as chef food/ doc buffs/ entertainer buffs, no one will ever use them. just my 0.02 credits

LOL @CALC!

Ok anyway....Campfire Cooking Sounds Cool...Just as long as it is either low quality stuff, or otherwise undesierable in comparison to cheff food. I remember in beta when we could forage 600-1000 point stat buffs(fairly often)and cheffs could only craft 200 point buffs....They wern't very happy and we got nerfed. Now Cheff food is much better so it should be less of an issue. If it were made so the result were Semi random, the product was unstackable, not mass producable(like a food factory), and was within about 20% of cheff food in effectivness(either way i guess) then yeah sounds good

Basicly you open up the Camp fire container, Put in you ingreedients...Lets say a Mynok Egg, 2 Avian meats, Foraged jelly(+100health+100Action), and an Ashenweed Spice(+100Mind+100Focus).....Click combine, a Little Animation would trigger, then you would be presented with the result of a "Spicy Omlet" (+500health+400Strength+300Constitution 80%fill, 1 hour durration).

Just how i picture it working....Would have to be very filling to prevent unintended rediculous stacking(Either Cheff food, or Ranger food) have a fairly random result every time to prevent rangers Producing stacks of Omlets that compete with cheff foods and to cut back on the reliability of making the same food every time.....This is survival, not science

On a Side note....i would like to see more Low-Tech wilderness types camps as opposed to camps with more terminals and stations in them....it doesn't realy make sence to me why Rangers would be so relient on Terminals and crafting stations....from a Roleplaying standpoint.

Agreed.

Just stating how it could be done.......Anyhow We both know it will never happen, we can't even get the devs to Change something as small as harvesting bonuses.....Like thier going to Add in a whole new specialty crafting aspect to Ranger camps and introduce more rediculous buffs.....HAHAHA.

On a side note tho, it can't hurt to talk about "What if"

Here is some other ways we could use this…

In the Ranger Camp(s):

- A Novice Chef could prepare buff camp food. This will include the Chef profession

- Allow Entertainers to heal BF. This will include the Dancers and Musicians.

- Allow Rangers to make camp food that will heal mind damage. This gives us something.

- Put mission terminals in camp – This helps all.

I like our camps to have something for many professions. I like to see them be a place other classes could use and enjoy being in.

Add the other posts on fixing them repel aggressive creatures and having them not disband due to combat and you have a very cool hunting camp.
