no terminals....please.....i don't think we should push for this...its not likely to happen.

The dev responce would focus on that on aspect of the request with a, "I like the idea, but what worries me is, If you have your own mission terminals then why go into town....Also the effect of having *portable* mission terminals would speed your Economic production by 50%(saves you the run back to town), and thats a Change we arn't prepared to make".......Or atleast thats the responce i would give as a dev

And this could quite easily be countered by saying that we want them to take people away from towns. Towns are way too crowded because everyone stays around and does missions. It would let us get a group together and lead them somewhere where there is no POI or other reason to go. Right now, people call me crazy because I spend more time outside a town than I do anywhere where it is possible to get missions. The mission terminals are NOT why I go into town now. And I don't think the Devs ever really intended them to be. If you look at a game like Everquest then you will see what I mean. Most people don't bother with missions. They make their livings off loot and similar stuff. And I think the Devs tried (but failed) to keep this game similar. People in Everquest actually leave the general town areas. They slowly get farther and farther away as they get higher in level. And that really would help this game feel more alive.

As for speeding economic production, there is the trade off of the resources used. Right now, speeders make it extremely easy to run missions quickly. You can get into town and back out to a mission without any trouble. The trade off was meant to be needing to repair the speeder (this is currently a bit unnecessary with an exploit but that was the idea) and the speeder's initial resource cost. Speeder repairs are much cheaper than what you can earn by using the speeder, as is the initial resource cost. The same would be true of these mission terminals.

you could just make it so that campfires act like low-grade food/chemicalcrafting stations. higher camps merit higher qualities, until you reach the master level camp which gives a fully-functional food/chem terminal.

and perhaps being in a camp will automatically grant you new, simple food schematics that require only meat or hide and can be easily crafted. they would only be available while in a camp.

you can't make it TOO good, though, or otherwise chefs will be rushing to go pick up master ranger and make +999999 vasarian brandies in their base camps ^_^

edit:

another idea: make campfires act like food/chem TOOLS, so you can craft food without needing to lug one around! i like this idea the best.

The idea i was trying to get across was giving other professions a function within our camps. Giving them a reason and a fun experience for coming into our camps, i wouldn't endorse any proposal that negatively effected another profession.

What i was suggesting with the Chef and Doctor ideas was, when those characters where grouped and in our camps they would have access the certain facilities and equipment. Such as the chef could use their skills make food in the stewing pot. They would be able to do things we would not and to a much higher skill. We on our own would be able to create a food to reduce BF over time, however a chef would be able to create enhanced foods for stats and HAM increases. ONLY a chef could do this.

Take a look in a thread ive just posted on some nice changes id like to see to camps.

Wow i totally love this idea. I agree with the devs about if camps automatically healed BF then it would remove the need for cantinas and dancers/musicians etc. However this system would be perfect. It isnt an automatic camp feature that starts working in ANY camp from setup to disband, it would work by yeah, tossing some foraged herbs, few lumps of meat and some eggs etc intothe pot/stove and then you get the benefits.

It would take time to get rid of the BF but not too long, however it must not be anything like entertainer healing rates. There must be a clear difference in effectivnessbut not to the extent where one skill becomes redundant.

I dont think food should give a small buff, our herbs and foraged fruit do that (although very limited at present) however herbs and foraged foodstuffs would be perfect to acompany this system. Certain combinations of meats and herbs give different rates of bf healingand could leed to some very fun tasteing sessions with rangers in a camp finding the best combination.

Furthering this idea id love to see a system that would allow alternative professions to take advantage of our camp features in some way. Here are two very rough ideas:

  • Chefs: When in group and in camp would enable him/her to utilise the stove/pots to a greater degree. Obviously nothing like to the same effectiveness as with a high tech kitchen but much better than we rangers can do with group benefits. Maybe they could drop one of their crafted foods into the pot and those who choose to eat it gain benefits. For example a master chef drops a vas brandy into our stewing pot allong with our ingredients and the groupies who chooseto eat that meal gain 50% of the brandy mind enhancment but at a loss of 50% duration and 50% filling. So effectivelly portions are diluted between the group by 50%. This would give our camps a purpose with a master chef for hunts.
  • Doctors:They would be able to utilise the HTFB's rather substancial medical facility to their advantage. When a doc is in group taking a seat on the medical beds would give the doctor 10% buffing increase and 25% wound healing capability. On another note i wouldlike to see the 10% buff enhancement be applied to medical facilities in towns and player cities also to limit the starport camping etc and utilise these buildings.

Obviously there are alot more andwould be alot of fun developing these ideas further however you get an idea of the type of thing im getting at.

All,

I think Owen-Lars post

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=44880

is taking my orginal ides and making it better.

I looked it over and it's good. I agree on having our camps include something for other classes. I like the direction this is going.

Calc, fellow Ranger, any thoughts?

I'm done in this threed and will start to look at the one Owen-Lars startd.

Good Hunting!
