I was loooking at the Ranger skills and saw these "Camo Kits". What are they, and what are they used for?

honestly, not much.

they are resource heavy, they dont work noticably better than mask scent, but you can apply a camo kit to a non-scout person.

they maybe, kinda, possibly, depending on the type, work on NPC's. sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. Its not a real benefit honestly.

I use the Talus kits as gag gifts for new city residents. They look like six packs. Any new guildies get one too. Labeled as beer, or soda, or whatever.

Camo kits are methods by which rangers draw aggression to themselves from any animal or NPC within 100 meters. If you ever want to get mobbed and killed, slap one on.

Really though, they are designed to be mask scent for NPC's and Animals alike. They just don't work.

Eesh...

People, they work fine. They just don't do enough for most people to bother making them. Plus, most people also swear off of them before reaching Master Ranger.. When, you know, the camouflage skill is still lower than your MaskScent skill. Of course MaskScent is going to work better when the rating is higher..

At MR level, they work as well or better than Mask Scent. They just cost resources, time and inventory space, which doesn't make up for (admittedly) unpredictable NPC effects (most timesyes, sometimes no..) and the fact that they work just as well as Mask Scent.. which isn't really saying much. Mask Scent breaks at the rumor of there being a Kreetle or a Rasp in the area.

Me, I carry camo kits for every planet I hunt on, because occasionally they're useful... But I'll admit that, bang-for-the-buck, Camo kits are greatly lacking, as is the rest of Ranger.

I have several crates of both Dathomir and Lok camo kits which are my main hunting grounds, which I made myself from resources that I harvested.

I recently completed a 50K order for Endorian Wooly Hide. For this taskI made myself individual Endor camo kits. The resources for the kits took about 1-2 hours to gather, the resultant kits lasted me all the time it took to get 50K hide.

Things aggro on you more. Nice skill, huh?

The PC answer is: they are kits created by Rangers which can be used on themselves and others to give the effect of Maskscent (creatures will ignore you).

It was supposed to work on NPCs as well, but then the developers changed their minds (or there was a severe lack of communication) and this was supposedly nerfed (taken away), although it reportedly still works against NPCs on occasion.

The real answer is: they are useless resouce sinks that break too often and seemingly draw more aggro than not.

Also, kreetles love the smell of camo in the morning. Or any time of the day, for that matter.

kreetles = ranger detectors.

If rangers ever get a role to play in the GCW, recruiters should sell deeds for kreetles to detect any rangers doing recon.

It's odd, there must be some kind of roll when you put on the kit. Sometimes, I put on a camo kit and it immediately breaks. I was in the rancor fields hunting spiders on Dath and my camo actually lasted long enough to wear off. That was odd. It almost always breaks before then. Dath camo is easier to get resources for, since they require carnivore meat, animal bones and leathery hide. Gee, I wonder where we can get that...

Now that I think of it, Dath camo should be more effective, we getdressed up as rancors!

Adding my 2 cents, they are currently broken (not just under-designed) in at least one way. E.g., last night I concealed on Naboo, then hours later I traveled to Lok and masked scent. It didn't work. I had the icon, but everything saw me without breaking the masked scent. I tried to take off the masked scent and it told me I was already 'concealed'. Heh, I don't even have a Lok cammo kit.

Even on the same planet, they tend to interfere with masked scent long after they've worn off.

On a related note, anyone know where to get domesticated meat for Lok kits? There's nothing in the swgcreature.com database.

The kits no longer require domesticated meat. I thinkit might be carnivore meat now (I forget exactly what it is but it's not too hard to get).

I've build 2 full crates for each planet, including Lok. I can confirm it is indeed 30 units of carnivore meat for each kit now.

That is a bug with an easy work-around. If you camo on a particular planet and hop to another while still under camo, the easy fix is to mask scent. Then hit your camo key. It'll shut off. Voila. I ran into this bug a while ago and found a fix on this forum.
