Thread: Group Terrain Negotiation
I'm not a huge proponent for taking something from another class, but Group Terrain Negotiation belongs to Ranger, not Squad Leader. Period. I'm sorry, but I don't see how this skill can be awarded to a profession that is an expert at leading groups in battle instead of a profession that is an expert at terrain negotiation. Maybe the SL skill isn't as affective as I think, but just seeing it on their skill tree makes me jealous
Seriously, though, it's not about sour grapes or nerfing Squad Leader, it's about common sense. Can somebody explain this to me? I don't get it. Cheers ![]()
When you look at the skill to improve group movement it just makes perfect sense to give it to the Squad Leader.
I have no idea about this but depending on your skill selections could a Ranger train enough skill in the Squad Leader tree to get this skill without gimping them to much?
I'm not a ranger, I don't even have scout skills anymore. One thing that I think would be really cool for a ranger to have would be a group terrain negotiation skill. That way if you grouped with a ranger and stayed within a certain distance the ranger would allow you to do things like climb mountains at faster than a crawl.
The thing I hate the most about having to relinquish my scouting skills is the fact that I've now lost all terrain negotiation and can't keep up with those in my group who have it. Something like this would make rangers a very desirable part of the group.
Jandre,
I think we are all happy enough with the new changes that are coming out for us that we don't need to steal a lollipop from the hands of our Squad Leader friends. They're one of the few professions that were (and still are) hurting more than we were.

I'm kinda stuck in the middle myself. Sure, it sounds like it should be a SL skill since it is "group" negotiation. But it makes sense that a Ranger is the person to hire to pick your way through harsh terrain faster or find that game trail to make movement faster.
I've always thought it would be nice to do it this way:
Squad Leaders get group negotiations over flat ground (they run faster when in a group) and get a bonus to burst running. Maybe faster and longer. (I think Forced March might be the new addition that is taking care of that.)
Rangers get group negotiations over mountains/hills.
I think the group terrain bonus works just fine as a squad leader skill. Anyone who has served in the military can testify to how much faster you canrun with your Drill Sgt. yelling at you to move.

LOL, amen to that.
